The One Hour Bound Challenge

Every Saturday
Channel: Clan xBc
Time: Around 6pm Eastern Time
Hosted by: Happybikini.CoM
Co-Host: Marth
Lead Judge: Valor

Contest Description

We all meet in the channel,
A random tileset is assigned,
And a theme of course.
Maybe a judge?

Contest Rules

1. You have ONE HOUR to make a bound of any size/difficulty/complexity level.
2. You have to be back in the channel after exactly one hour, no excuses. (although if you go over a minute or two, thats ok)
3. Winner gets a... well I don't know.. maybe a special spot for 1 hour bound of the week?

Judging Criteria
Total Points Possible: 20

Theme [ 5 Points Maximum ]

Pretty self explanatory, how well the bound relates to the theme. Of course it will most likely get at least 1 point in this area just for the background pic. But a clever design or method of playing can get extra.

Creativity/Fun [ 5 Points Maximum ]

New ideas on the old concept of bounding? And at the same time not being incredibly frustrating.

Design/Proffesionalism [ 10 Points Maximum ]

Does it freeze? Are the respawns working? Does it repeatedly spam you after you clear a level? Some things such as lives disabled so that we can die as much as we want are ok. Worth more points because a very very nice regular bound should be able to score something.

Contest History

Contest #1:
Date: February 10, 2007
Participants: Happybikini.CoM, Marth, Mossinat3r
Theme: Metal Music
Tileset: Desert
Recap: We each made a bound in the desert tileset that had something to do with metal music. Happbikini and Marth chose Slipknot as their band of choice, while Moss chose As I Lay Dying. Each map was nice, except for the fact that 3/4 of Marth's obstacles were deemed impossible.

Contest #2:
Date: February 17, 2007
Participants: Happybikini.CoM, Marth, Midna, Mp)Decent
Theme: Cell Phones
Tileset: Space Platform
Recap: Well, we obviously all made bounds that had something to do with Cell Phones. Midna came up with a cool idea called 'Disconnected' Bound. Each OB was disconnected(they had teleports in them). Everyone else made a classic bound. Unfortunately, we didnt get as big of a turnout as we hoped, but there's always next time.

Contest #3:
Date: February 24, 2007
Participants: Marth, Midna, Mp)Ko, BlackWolf[K9], Mp)Mental, JamesObscura, Roy
Theme: DOUBLE THEME!: Medival, Marijuana
Tileset: Badlands
Recap: Hella good contest. Many participants, and some good maps. There were some bugs with James' and Marth's maps, but the contest as a whole was great. Midna was the unanymous winner, due to his theme. We had a great turnout this time, and have decided to put up a bot and seperate channel for the xBc Tournaments. We're also looking to recruit a Judging Panel for the tournament, Lead by Valor-B[c]. Speak with him to join it. This week's tourney was a blast, and we hope to have another great one next week.

Contest #4:
Date: March 3, 2007
Participants: Marth, Midna, Mp)Ko, Happybikini.CoM, Roy, Blackwolf[k9], AngryRolyPoly, Adzzman_, My_Dog_Can_Moo
Theme: Bowling
Tileset: Ice
Recap: This was a great contest. We had 9 competitors all wanting to place first, but only one person can claim the prize. ...Or can they? This week, not one, but TWO people took first place. Congratulations to both Midna and Happy. Also worth noting is there was a 3 way tie for 5th place. Can week 5 really top this? We'll see. Good job to everyone who made a map this week.
Points: As you may know, this was the first week of official judging. A total of 20 points are possible: 5 for theme, 5 for creativity/fun, and 10 for design/professionalism. Here are the scores for week 4:
Happy: 18/20
Midna: 18/20
Roy: 15/20
Adzz: 13/20
Black: 12/20
Ko: 12/20
Moo: 12/20
Marth: 8/20
Angry: 6/20

Contest #5:
Date: March 10, 2007
Participants: Happybikini.CoM, Roy, Muta-lisk, Luigie, Marth, Midna, akaFroStinG
Theme: Snow
Tileset: Badlands
Recap: This week's contest was pretty interesting. The winner this time was Roy, whose Snowflaked Bound is something that you should go try. Now. What separated it from the rest was that it looked as if it were snowing over the obstacles, which interfered in you seeing the explosions, and making the bound so much more fun. Other than that, we ended up with several Snowflake Bounds, and it turned out that Happy and me (Midna) had similar terrain ideas when it came to that. Here are the complete standings:

1. Roy (Winner)
2. Happybikini.CoM
3. Midna
4. Muta-lisk
5. akaFroStinG
6. Luigie
7. Marth

Contest #6:
Date: May 27, 2007
Participants: Happybikini.CoM, Muta-Lisk, Mp)101badboy01, Mp)Mental
Theme: Cheese
Tileset: Badlands
Recap: Part 1 of the Back-To-Back Memorial Day 1HBC Weekend was sort of lacking. We started with 5(+Marth), but due to personal reasons, I had to leave the contest and judge instead. However, 4 participants still made their bounds. 1st Place was a 2-way tie between Muta-Lisk and Happybikini.CoM, but the other 2 maps were very dull and buggy. Hopefully tomorrow(May 28, 2007) will have a much better turnout for the competition.

1. Muta-Lisk 14/20
1. Happybikini.CoM 14/20
2. Mp)Mental 8/20
3. Mp)101badboy01 4/20

(And no, those scores aren't because I'm racist against Mp)

Contest #7
Date: January 05, 2008
Contestants: Happybikini.CoM, Roy, Midna, Marth, The.Demon, WiL, Arbiter
Theme: Pokemon
Tileset: Ice
Recap:

Alright, the first 1HBC of the newly assembled xBc has occurred today. The theme? Pokemon.

First Place: Happybikini.CoM - 18 points
Yes, it's true! The one that everyone thought would win did so. Happy is awarded a tin bucket for placing first with his clever idea of making a Pokemon-themed version of Combat bound, except that unlike Combat Bound, it didn't suck.

Second Place: Midna - 15 points
A simple and yet inspirational map of which you had directional gravity as you tried to bound. Only two levels were completed, but the concept was clever enough to award Midna the second place toilet trophy.

Third Place: Roy - 14 points
Oh damn, it's me! tongue.gif A not-so clever idea but a unique idea nonetheless. You catch a Goldeen and rename it. What do you rename it as? Marth! This map placed third due to its humor, and the completion of five functional obstacles. Third place of this tournament is awarded the trash can.

4th: WiL (New to the competition) - 11 points
5th: The.Demon (New to mapmaking in general) - 7 points
6th: Marth - 5 points
7th: Arbiter - 4 points

- Hope to see more participants in next week's contest! -
Next Contest Date: Saturday, January 12th

Good idea to incorporate something like this. I'll sticky it once we get the site going, and post the winners from each week up on the site.

That last contest was fun, but i did terrible... after time was up i had realized that i forgot to add hyper triggs and a teleport for the units, so after you finish lvl 1, you skip through all levels to the end... (layout was like level up bound) >.<

i fixed it up after i sent it in to be judged, and its actually kinda entertaining. only 7 levels tho, but its not that bad. It was a nice experience to join in the contest, kinda hard to memorize all the locations and stuff in your head blink.gif

Use my saved triggers that i put in "The Guide To The 1 Hour Bound Challenge" faq. they include hypers, invincibility. There are also unit and player settings in that .zip file, but they can only be loaded in starforge(whereas the triggers can be loaded in anything but starforge).

Well this week we didnt use official judges, seeing as we only had one that logged on. Sorry for dissapointing you Rocka, but the other contestants and I didn't see it fit to have only one judge, so we reverted for this week. Hopefully Corro and the next judge will be able to make it next time. Also, I realize that Corro's birthday was yesterday(3-9), so he is excused for this.

Marth is right, we need all of our regular competitors to stay just as that. Until we can get a permanent judge, we have no problem using a fill in. If all of a sudden the better people started becoming judges, eventually the contest would fall apart, and we don't want that to happen. So: Anyone who has competed in more than 1 contest is not allowed to be a judge, permanent or fill in.

Well... YOU don't want that to happen; don't pull me into this opinion of yours. tongue.gif

Since when am I a regular? I've entered 2 times. Wait... 3... GOD DAMMIT.

How nice of you to lie and say I'm a good mapmaker biggrin.gif

Marth, don't you dare post after this...
