WobBa - How to become a Gym Leader, [updated 05.15.07]

So you wanna be a Gym Leader, huh?


First of all, you must be recognized as a skilled trainer. Of course, you gotta show this by coming to lots of tournaments, official or not! There's the WiFi tournaments you're more than likely to see in the WiFi section. Rickety and I hold local videogame tournaments over in San Diego, and the California Trainers Club in Santa Monica have a long history of hosting safe and fun tournaments. Get some practice done with your friends so you can really show your stuff at the tourneys! All the tournaments will be overseen by a moderator/tourney director to keep track of all rankings. If we see that you've been placing in any Power Rankings (which is likely to happen if you place high in a wide variety of pokemon tournaments), there is a big chance that you'll find yourself as part of the esteemed league of Gym Leaders. But being a tough trainer isn't the only thing you must be to be a Gym Leader.
Being a Gym Leader is an Honorable Title. You must be a good member by following the simple board rules (found at the top). If you haven't tried to make up for any warnings you might have, your Title availability may be at risk. Having had warnings in the past doesn't exactly help, but if you show self-improvement, we will definitely give you a good second look! You may be strong, but a respectable Gym Leader has good form!



If you become recognized as one of the top 30 players on WobBa as well as a good forum member, we will personally add you to the special usergroup "Gym Leader" for being such a beacon in the pokemon battling community!

(Note: Members in this group are able to change their Title in their profile settings. This is the little line that states your post ranking when you are a regular member, an example being "Bug Catcher.")

In a certain point in time, when there are enough Gym Leaders (there is a limited number!), they will be given badges to show ranking. To have a more feasible Gym Leader system, we will not be using "Mono-Type" badges, but "Numbered Ranking" badges. Each will have their own unique style and be given to those in Gym Leader rankings! And, to the deserving top five rankholders, they will automatically become the Elite 4 and Champion (respectively)! It's being debated whether there should be a single ranking system for all members of the board, or separate ones for different countries. What will probably happen is the first will be our method while there are still such few members, but if more people decide to join, we may have to separate by country to indicate who's top in every nation. Once it is separated, there may be a second symbol to show your overall world ranking.
This is all just in theory. Hopefully it may come into practice!

Anyway, don't forget! everyone is welcome to battle these awesome strategists for their place in the rankings by topping higher in tournaments and challenging them directly (while beating them consistently, meaning that just because you beat them once doesn't mean you get to be Gym Leader that instant.)!

I'm interested and fully qualify for the title "Gym Leader", is this Posible for me to do this even though I'm not in SanDiego?

Of course you are fully capable of becoming a Gym Leader! What it basically is is a way of showing that you're in high ranking at the tournaments. There's no area limits or anything like that. I guess you could say it's an overall national ranking! Though I think it would be more practical or logical to make it so Gym Leaders are the ones in high ranking in the region, while Elites (as in Elite 4, only there's obviously a bit more) hold the top rankings in the nation.

About your request... Hmm. You definitely proved yourself worthy on NetBattle, but not really on the vid games themselves. And, you've battled only me, Ricky, and Tony. I'm most likely going to the tournament in Santa Monica this month because I got my license!
If you wanna come, you've got a month to train
If you can place in at least third place in this upcoming tournament, I'll make you a Gym Leader.

This whole forum is really mostly dedicated to the video games, and not the TCG, because there's PLENTY of websites to meet some local card players. I tried googling "pokemon tournament," and the results mainly ended up with links to sites for TCG tourneys. I could add a section on the site for the TCG, but that's up to everybody here.
I'll be setting up a couple of polls soon, I have some questions for our members!

Yar. Can Illinois people get in on this too?! I know i'm not in the sunny California anymore, but I think it'd be pretty neat!!! How do i do this if I can't get to the SD tournaments you're talkin' about? :D

Hmm that link helps alot, thanks for posting that. Even though I won't be able to use this info just yet, but someday it will come in handy.

Everyone remember this, Netbattle is not the real game. To someone like me Netbattle is just good practice. The real battles are on your GBA and soon on the DS.

Interesting way of looking at it. I do have a weird hunch that the likelihood of something happening is slightly heightened, but maybe that's just 'cause I have bad luck at NetBattle, lol.

Since NetBattle is the only thing at the moment to battle people long distance, that's going to be used if we want to hold some kind of national/international tournament. Since there's only like two months left, though, I highly doubt there's even going to be an "official" WobBa tourney on NB. However, there's no doubt that D/P is going to be replacing any NB tourneys we were planning when it comes out :)

Most people on net battle, use the same good move sets as others, so after awile, they become predictable to me. It is very rare to see someone who made a unique
team of their own. Most people like to play, and copy others, if it's a really good team.

Um, I still dont get what being a gym leader does. Does it just give you cool points, or does is distinguish the good players from the bad players? And about going to tourniments, can you make a room for wobba boba on netbattle, so i dont gotta leave my house . O yea, i wanna hold a netbattle tourniment, but i dunno where to go to do that? Can you help me petite?

It gives you cool points, and it shows that you place high in tournaments! There's like 30 positions, and all of those indicate that you're recognized as being one of the top thirty pokemon players. Do you kinda know what I mean? Let me know what you get lost on, I'm always glad to help.

Basicly, to be a Gym "Leader", you have to be in the lead.

id like to qualify to become a gym leader. although i have signed up today, i will prove i am worthy enough in tournaments, and in any other event.

one question, do i have to beat any specific people in order to obtain this quality?
