This was a better episode than I thought it would be. Chad Everett got all of Dean's mannerisims DOWN! At times, I thought I was watching Jensen in old age makeup.
I will admit that I missed the first of the episode. I got in when Dean made his deal. I will be recording the replay at midnight so I can see the start. I liked this week's villian. He was cool, yet quite a douchebag. (I can't believe he gave Sammy the clap!) Bobby rocked in this episode. I was really hoping that he would be a good part of the episode. My thoughts aren't organized yet. If someone else wants to take over, they can. |

I rather enjoyed this episode. It was nice to have a new episode after a rerun last week. I actually didn't care for episode 6 that much so I'm really glad that I liked this one.
I thought that the guy playing old Dean was perfect! He had the mannerisms down and everything. Loved the bickering between Bobby and Dean, even Sam at times. Completely hilarious and loved the lines about John McCain and the old woman in Titanic. I also loved all the bits about Bobby. I almost cried when he admitted that he had thought about killing himself. Really makes you see a whole other side to him. That speech that Dean gave him at the end was perfect. Sam getting the clap?! He had to get a booster shot. Hahaha. Poor guy. Another great thing was the little jig that Dean did after he was young again. Completely priceless and reminded me of Jared in the S4 gag reel! I liked the villian too and the guy that played him was actually on Dawson's Creek as that jerk of a director that Dawson worked for and later ended up being friends with if anyone is curious about that. Haha. This post has been edited by xxstaindrosesxx on Oct 30 2009, 04:08 AM -------------------- |

Only two people have commented so far? Wow.
So for me this episode was ok. Loved the stuff with old!Dean and the byplay between Bobby and Dean. Patrick was an interesting villian but I felt they could have done more with him. His wife/girlfriend (did she have a name?) was a bit cookie cutter though. Near the end, when she was helping to take him down? I figured it was either because he kept cheating on her or because she was tired of living, probably because she had lost a child. Turned out to be right. Very predictable (which, sadly, the show kinda has been lately.) I did kinda love how Sam went and played Patrick (thought he was doing his usual 'disobeying Dean' but then we found out that Dean knew about it? Now that was cool!) and how he totally faked him out. I mean, knew Sam was going to win in the end but that he used his 'tells' to bluff? Awesome! A few other thoughts-- I freaked out cause I thought my DVR had cut off the recap but it turned out that there wasn't one this time. Whew! Did anyone notice the woman reading Weekly World News at the beginning? Twas cute. The boys posing as CDC was a nice touch. sleazy!Dean in the cathouse made me laugh. Who else squeed during this little conversation?: Dean: "Your turn to grab dinner." Sam: "Usual?" Dean: "Extra bacon." OMG, they are so married! That Sam doesn't even have to ask and that Dean would just talk like that? I loved it. (I mean, seriously, if you recounted that conversation to someone outside of fandom and pretended Sam was a girl they would probably say "was he talking to his wife?" :P ) Dean pushing the $100 toward the bartender--how much pool did he have to hustle for that? Bobby...did not look a whole lot different when he lost and aged up, IMO. Dean going to win Bobby's years back and losing. And yeah, the guy who played old!Dean was note perfect. He must have studied Jensen or something cause it was awesome! Sam's lines about "Grumpy old men" and "I was gonna say Emperor Palpatine" were priceless! Aww, Sammy gets the quips at last! Also a great line: Dean: "He's been playin' poker since guys wore tights." Hee. old!Dean thinking he's having a heart attack and it's really acid reflux. (did you see how alarmed Sam was? *loves*) The housekeeper, Dean hitting on her and her thinking he's like her adorable Grandpa. Ah, Dean! OK, this is probably a stupid question but if Bobby's legs are paralyzed how can he drive? *is confused* Patrick the he-witch knew Sam on sight and seemed to know what he had done? Interesting! The scenes between Bobby and Dean at the cemetary. Bobby: "Hurry up, crybaby." Dean: "Pound it up your ass, Ironside." And Dean's "You know Bobby, killing you is officially on my Bucket List." Hey, did anyone else notice that when old!Dean collapsed he said Sam's name? Ah, Dean! Always thinking of your Sammy! Another great line from Sam: "You're crying. For a witch you're so nice it's actually kinda creepy." Dean's little jig, yeah that was cute. Then Dean and Bobby's talk. Which when Bobby was all "I'm useless" I wanted to scream, 'um, no, you're still the one they turn to for information and experience. When Barbara Gordon was crippled in the comics and became Oracle she actually turned into a bigger asset!' So it was good but not great, IMO. (I know I quoted a lot of cool stuff and moments but while there were a lot of cute "moments", overall, the episode left something to be desired.) -------------------- |

I had a friend ask me the same thing about Bobby driving. The answer to that is, that people who are paralyzed can have special vehicles made for them with the mechanisms on the steering wheel so the gas and brake would be on the steering wheel.
President Franklin Roosevelt had a car like that since he was paralyzed and yes I'm aware that I'm a big dork for actually paying attention in my history classes in high school. Haha. I noticed that World Weekly News thing too and laughed. I thought that was pretty funny and kind of gave a foreshadow for next week if you think about it. I also noticed that there was no recap and that the clip for the following week was not until like 10pm. I heard they did that because the show was ending way too early and people would stop watching so they were losing ratings? I heard that it worked too so we might be waiting through all those commercials for clips now. Might I add that I watch Vampire Diaries but I hate the fact that it has more viewers than SPN? It's no way near as good! -------------------- |

Yeah, I knew that drivers could get that sort of thing but I didn't figure Bobby had (seeing as how he hadn't seemed to accept his disability yet). Or that enough time had passed. *shrugs* Guess so, huh?
We've actually had several teasers of the Trickster coming in the last few epsiodes. First there was the actual mention in IBTCATF and then the Weekly World News here.
I did notice that the episode seemed done pretty early and then we had to wait a long time for the next preview. I hadn't realized they might have done that deliberately (ok, the thought crossed my mind, at which time I cursed Demon O.! LOL).
Don't watch VD but yeah, I don't like that it gets more viewers either. (in the plus column I heard that Gossip Girl [Sorry if there are any GG fans!] has been getting atrocious ratings and may now be 'on the bubble' for being renewed next year.) |

Yeah I remember the Trickster reference in that one episode also.
Haha. I don't watch it and I think that would be kind of funny because they made such a big hype out of Gossip Girl and they put so much money into it. The previews don't even look as good as they used to be. I remember last year they had all the ones making Chuck out to be a manwhore. Perhaps they need to go back to those days to get more viewers. -------------------- |

My only real issue with this episode was the doctor saying that the guy at the beginning died of old age, because doctors are never supposed to say that. One doesn't die of old age. I mean, you do, but there's always a specific reason, like heart failure, or respiratory failure. It was just this huge mistake that the writers made, because no self-respecting doctor would ever say that someone died of old age.
