Walking back along the same route and corridors from the great hall of the court Adalyn no longer needed to follow in Ramiel’s footsteps, the journey had certainly become ingrained in her memory. Now she didn’t feel as weak she had on her first trip, but still it wasn’t somewhere she wanted to be. Each time she was brought to the court the event and reason was different. This time had been one Ady wasn’t sure she understood.
Turning another corner she waited for the corridors to become darker and less used, a sure sign they were getting further from the court, before she spoke. In the meantime she played the summons in her head. Pet, Remiel’s pet? To Ady it didn’t make sense. Remiel was her keeper, jailer, but she wasn’t his pet. In the time she’d been there she’d thought of him almost as a friend, he’d never been unjust or rude and she’d never tried to escape or cause him hard,
The noise of the court faded behind them and Ady finally turned to look at Remiel. In her time been held by the court he was her only saviour he was still a Fae, but something about him pulled her too him since they first met. “Remiel?” She question knowing if he still thought it unsafe to talk he’d stop her. His name was like fresh blood on her tongue, she liked the way it felt to say it as much as she liked the way he looked in the dim light.
Adalyn looked around before continuing after seeing no one close. “What did she mean that I’m your pet?” It was how the queen had worded it in her alluring tones and mixed with harsher words. “I’m yours? For what?” She asked.

Remy walked quietly beside Adalyn as they went back to the cell they had been keeping her in. He didn't have his hand on the blade as he had on their first trip down these halls. But he also didn't look at her. He was afraid of seeing that hatred in her eyes after what the queen had decided to pull today. He wondered if she thought he had been in on it all along. If he knew this was the plan. He didn't know the Queen's actions until she did them. No one did.
Remy could only imagine that Adalyn would hate the idea. Anyone would. It was beyond insulting. But at the same time, he hated admitting to himself that he was happy that she'd be staying near him and that he'd be able...no...responsible for protecting her. He could make sure she got treated well, that she wasn't feeling like a prisoner anymore. Or at least do his best at that.
Once the sound from the court had faded from thei r ears, he heard her say his name questioningly. He stopped walking and slowly turned to her. He heard her question but had no idea how to really answer that without making her think worse of himself. But he had to be honest.
"She has decided that seeing the..." He stopped himself from saying fondness, not knowing how she'd react to that and chose his words more carefully. "that I have more sympathy towards you...it would amuse her to call you my pet. She has given me full responsibility over you...but the good part is that by doing that, no one else can call you to the court...they can't put you through that again. They try and they deal with me"

Each time Adalyn looked at Remiel she felt a shock race through her, it was somewhere between disbelieve at the feeling and excitement. It had to be the isolation, not been with her own kind or seeing anyone else, Ady knew she shouldn’t think the thinks she thought about Remiel, or admire what she saw. When he turned to her this time she could see something in his eyes she could make out, she wondered if the Queen’s words had confused him as much as they had her.
When he spoke Ady listened, the words were alien to here. His words seemed as if he cared, something Ady may have doubted not too long ago, but she had seen the risks Remiel had taken for her. “So she’d given me to you?” Ady said slowly letting the words sink into her own mind.
“I’m not a item to be given or accepted.” She said angrily, but her anger was not directed to Remy as it had been the first time she’d walked the corridors with him. “I appreciate you protection, but if I was free I wouldn’t need it.” She told him, but the idea of been free from the whims of the court caught in her mind and she felt relief at that. “But I don’t have to go back there. No more tortures or humiliation?” she asked swallowing hard as her mind replayed the past few weeks of the barrages.

It was difficult for Remy to answer her question and explain to her what had just happened when he felt in a way responsible for the situation. Maybe if the Queen hadn't observed the way he treated her kinder than the others, she would have just freed Ady instead of going with this new idea of making her a pet. He knew she would hate it and he couldnt blame her. He nodded as she confirmed that the queen had given her to him. The idea of being a pet over just a prisoner, he knew would seem even more demeaning. A prisoner could be an equal, but a pet was the Queen's way of pointing out that she believed vampires to be greatly below.
She pointed out to him rather vehemently how she wasn't some item that could be given or accepted. He was about to point out that he hadn't actually accepted, it wasn't something he really got a choice in, but was just told was happening, not that he would have refused her and risked her becoming the pet of another. He was too possessive over her for that. It was why whenever possible he had taken charge of her care in the cell.
"Right now if you were to try to leave the others here would still go after you...you'd have no protection" Remy told her. He knew though if she wanted to leave he wasn't going to make her stay. She was free to go, even if he didnt say it directly. He'd never force her here, even if he did want her company.
"That's right" Remy added as she realized the good part of the arrangment, that she wouldnt be put through torture. The Queen has made you mine as far as the other Faeries are concerned, none of them will challenge that, and I certainly wouldnt put you through what she did. You don't have to go back there." He said hoping she knew that already by now. He looked around him a moment as he thought. "In fact you don't need to go to the cell anymore if you don't want...if you'd be more comfortable you could stay in my quarters in the court"

Her words had been harsh and the moment she spoke them Ady knew she was directing the words at the wrong person. In her time been held within the Court Remiel had been nothing but pleasant to her, bordering on friendly and something more. It was that something more that Ady was sure they were both holding back from and the latest twist in their circumstance certainly meant they weren’t the only ones to see it. He was a fae and she a vampire, it couldn’t ever work, but it didn’t stop Ady thinking and, in some distant locked away part of her mind, hoping.
“I’d be out there more alone then I was before. By now the few others of mine kind I’m known too will assume I’ve moved on, or worst.” She said honestly knowing that outside of the walls, or rather warren, she was alone. It wasn’t the feeling of loneliness that would keep her within reach of Remiel, it was more. Initially she’d sought comfort when it was he that watched over her in the cell, not it was more. “Then I stay. Stay and be your pet? I’m not even domesticated, I’m wild and ferrel, you might say. How am I to be your pet? What will you expect? What will she expect?” Ady asked with a toss of her head back towards the Queen’s Court.
Thankful couldn’t express the relief and feeling Ady felt at not having to go back to the Court and be humiliated again. Now she was Remiel’s she knew, as he said, that he could honestly protect her from that and more. “Thank you, Remiel.” She smiled gently again.
As the conversation moved towards her holding cell, thought their physical movement was still stalled Ady looked at him more seriously. “Is expected, I suppose? And I would be more comfortable, thank you.” She nodded accepting his offer. “As I said before, I say again, I’m no threat to you Remiel. You can trust me on that, but are you a threat to me? A girl and a guy…” She smiled joking and letting the small joke hang between them.

"I'm sorry" Remy told her sincerely as she explained how if she left now she'd be on her own, the others having moved on. He wondered if she'd end up an outcast among her own kind because of what his had put her through. It was terrible the things that people did to one another.
As she had resolved herself to stay, he listened to her explain how she wasn't domesticated but wild and feral. He smirked at her description. He would have described himself the same way. Certainly not suitable for anyone's pet. He had come from a greatness that had power over creatures of the earth, it was that pride that had brought him here, so many years ago. But she had born here, yet still not a suitable pet for anyone.
"I won't expect much" Remy told her, not having any grand schemes for ways to use her. "She'll expect me to be responsible for your actions should you misbehave. She'll think I should have full control over what you do. I dont know how else she expects this to play out"
"You're welcome" Remy replied to her thanks. He felt guilty for her appreciation when he was part of something like this. He knew she would have had every right to keep yelling at him. She then accepted his offer to stay with him rather than in the cell. He nodded knowing some of the others would think him a fool for not keeping her caged up. He knew she was a danger to him, even as she told him she'd be no threat. If her hunger got the best of her, he didnt know how her control would be if he were sleeping and so vulnerable to her.
"I'll have to trust you" He said then grinning at her teasing joke about a threat of him to her. "I guess you'll have to trust me as well, a girl and a guy sharing one room could be just asking for trouble"

“Don’t be sorry, I don’t need pity.” She said proudly. As soon as she said the words she knew they sounded edged with pride and had a bite to them, quickly she looked back to him. “I mean to say, I’m not the group type. Alone doesn’t bother me. Though I know if I came up against your kind, out there, then it would be an issue.” she said more kindly.
Her head twisted quickly as she saw the smirk cross his face, was he laughing at her? Did he think he softer, more domesticated? “Why do you laugh?” She questioned, “Don’t I scare you?” Part of her hoped she had scared him the first time they’d been alone when he instincts to feed had taken over her logic of his help
“Like a true owner? Do you even want this Remiel, it’s a big responsibility? What will the others think?” She questioned him wondering if he even wanted her or if their tome together had made him doubt his decision to help her that first time. “You’ll never have full control over me, no man will.” she told him honestly remember even in her human time she’d been tough to control.
Was she welcome? Adalyn couldn’t help but wonder if she was a burden rather then a gift, or pet. She hated the term. Pet was so mundie, so degrading. Somehow she knew Remiel wouldn’t degrade her further, he hadn’t so far and she was thankful for that. She wouldn’t harm him, or be a embarrassment to him; she’d try.
“I think I’ll have to trust you.” she smiled realizing that they were fairly evenly matched, but it was his quarters, he could win. “It is trouble. You know I was raised in different times, guys and girls didn’t do that sort of thing when I was younger.” She said with a hint of a smile, though she liked the idea of sharing a room, and more, with him.

"Alone can be a nice relief" Remy agreed, knowing that taking some time away from the court every now and then was what saved his sanity. "But its safer to have allies, someone who has your back, your own kind or not" He told her.
He dropped his smile as she questioned his laughing, he hadn't meant to offend her though he was amused. "I'm not exactly domesticated either, it made me laugh" He told her. "I know you're dangerous, but in this moment I'm not scared of you" He told her, knowing actions could change that at any time. He wasn't overly fearful of anyone or anything though, knowing his own strength and skill.
"I didnt ask her for this if that's what you're asking" Remy snapped back a little harsher than he wanted to as she asked if he wanted this. "I don't care what the others think, if I did I never would have helped you to begin with....some may be jealous, some may just think I'm a crazy fool" He said knowing he thought too much of himself to take into consideration what others thought of him, the damned pride.
He didn't care if he ever had full control over her, he didnt actually want to control her. He wanted her to stay but he didnt want her to just hate him as her owner, or keeper, or the being who kept her here. He knew already he'd never force her to stay should she try to leave. But he didnt want her to know that now.
Remiel chuckled again lightly as she explained about being raised in a different time. "Well I'm afraid my quarters only consists of one large room, its separated off a little with a living area but no walls and doors between rooms. " He explained. "And just when were you a little girl? " He asked with interest, wondering how old she was. She may have been raised in a different time, but he wasn't raised at all.

To Adalyn it was no longer a relief, it was how she chose to live her life. Been with others of her kind reminded her too much of what she was, made her feel like a Hollywood stereotype. Alone she had a chance to pretend to be something else, though she couldn’t live without blood, she tried to live with out the wasteful deaths. “Before now I never really needed anyone to watch my back. I abide by the damn Nephilim rules, and stay away from mundie laws. Now its all different.” She said wistfully. A part of Ady was glad it had happened, she’d learned from it and met Remiel whom she was glad to have, but she knew it could all still end badly.
As he explained the smirk Ady understood, “We’re not too different then.” She smiled glad they shared something however trivial. “I know you could be very dangerous, especially to me, but I know you won’t be without cause. And I wont give you cause.” She stressed to him wanting them both to know where they stood.
Adalyn stepped back at Remiel’s outburst. She hadn’t meant her words to cause him anger, she just wanted to know how he felt on the matter. And now she knew. He was as angry as she was at the idea, though she was also excited and please to be with him more now she was his pet, even if the pet part was the thing that caused anger. “Remiel. I meant no insult nor did I meant to pry.” She stammered feeling caught of guard and for the first time seeing the power and passion that drove him. Though she was shocked she was also in awe, if he had that passion in anger she could only imagine the other ways he might channel it. “Maybe we’re both fools for thinking this will be anything but humorous for others if not ourselves.” She smiled hoping to calm him a little or channel the fire into humor.
His quarters sounded close and almost intimate, Ady knew there would be little privacy or alone time from one another. It had its positives just as it did its negatives. “Then I guess we’ll get to know each other better.” She nodded with a smile. As he asked when she was a child she smiled knowing she looked little older then her early 20s she wondered if he’d be surprised by her real age as she longed to know his. “I was born here in New York shortly after the turn of the century.” She told him. “And you? Where you ever a child? I don’t know very much about your race.” She admitted true fully other then the obvious and the rude she knew little at all.

"It's different because of us" Remy replied, taking on some of the blame of his race. "All because you were in the wrong place at the wrong time" He said, assuming that could have been the only reason they would have had to believe she had committed the crime against the fae child. He had long ago believed her that she was innocent of the crime.
"We're not too different then and both pretty equally matched" He commented. Both of them were able to pose a danger to the other one but they both had to trust the other not to. He wondered if perhaps this situation was just asking for trouble. Just waiting for her to get hungry one day, or him to get angry and take it out on the wrong person. Could this end pleasantly? or even civilly?
As he watched her step back in response to his outburst he regretted the tone of his words. He hadnt meant to upset her, she had been through enough. He nodded at her apology. "And I didnt meant to snap at you either" He said apologetically. He gave a light smirk, trying to push away the anger he had felt a moment ago as she talked about the humorous situation. "Perhaps we are just a pair of fools"
He nodded as she said how they'd get to know each other better. "I guess I should get to know my pet" He said softly, giving her a look that he hoped she understood he had meant the comment lightly in trying to accept the situation and not in trying to demean her.
Remy listened with interest to her explaination of her age. His eyebrows raised a bit. "You look good for your age" He told her, then gave a smile as she admitted she didnt know much about his race and asked about him. "I dont believe I was ever a child. And I'm afraid I can't even give you much of a guess of my age as I havent kept track...but I am much older than you. I've seen many centuries pass, and lived without much concept of time"

“I think our match depends on the situation. Though I’ll never do anything to put either of us at a disadvantage.” she told him hoping the same from him but almost knowing it was a silent given. Even as she spoke the words and hope to stick to them, she worried. What if her thirst was too strong? If he was a sleep would the temptation be too much? Could she live so close to him and not be tempted to feed or tempted to something else?
His apology was sincere, she knew Faes couldn’t lie, but she also trusted his words. “Its ok, my words probably came out wrong. You have passion for your views, I like that.’ She smiled then quickly looked away only looking back to laugh a little as he agreed with her view of been fools. “Then we’re in good company. A fool think himself a wise man, but a wise man know himself to be a fool, I think that makes us wise.” Adalyn said reciting a proverb she’d heard somewhere and thinking it lent well to their current situation.
Turning to look at him form the side of her eye Ady tried to scowl, but knew his words were not meant in truth. “And I should know my master.” she grimaced and smiled looking at him straight on. “Not that I’ll call you that, or wear some ridiculous collar.” She told him with a smirk. It may be their new roles, but Ady wasn’t going to go mathod on it.
As he complimented her Ady just smiled, she’d been frozen as she was since her change she knew he’d know that, but it was a nice compliment never the less. “You don’t remember a childhood? Ever?” she asked of his life after he’d spoken. “Maybe its you know looks good for their age. To know your life numbers centuries is amazing. And your concept of time now? Your time with me?” She asked carefully. Her feelings for him were strange, nor just a woman for a man but a vampire for a Fae; the very like unheard of.

"I won't either" Remy assured her as she spoke of never doing anything to put either of them at a disadvantage. He knew that she was already at a disadvantage, in the court, and now as his pet, but he wouldnt add to that further. He knew she could be a danger, to him more than anyone because of what he knew would be their increased proximity. Her easiest way out would be to go through him. He was sure she probably knew that as well.
Remy nodded as Adalyn accepted his apology, knowing it was just his passion. "I'm not afraid to speak up for what I believe in...even if it may not always seem that way" He said wondering if she'd believe him, after the way he'd remained silent while they tortured her. He had known his voice wouldnt have been heard then if he had tried. He did grin as heard her speak of fools and wise men. The way she spoke it was almost like a fae.
Remy was glad that she had not taken his words seriously as he used the name the others would be calling her. He smirked as she referred to him as her master. "I'd never ask you to call me that, I think I'd have to be pretty insecure to need that name" He said with a chuckle. He didnt comment on the collar thing, knowing it was possible the queen would have some bogus restrictions like that that he might find out about later. He would make no promises he wasn't sure he could keep, even if they were honest promises at the time.
He shook his head more somberly as she questioned him remembering a childhood. "I dont remember it, if I ever had one. I remember no beginning" He told her, smiling as she complimented him as he had her, about looking good for his age. "Thank you...my concept of time improves as I have things to remember. My time since I met you I can measure in hours." He told her.

As Remiel commented on speaking up Ady knew of the time he was probably referring too. She didn’t hold it against him for not speaking up for her in the court, she knew why he couldn’t and he had certainly made up for it since. “Sometimes its smarter to stay quiet.” she ventured offering him her support and understanding in her reason for him to stay quiet when she’d been tortured. As his face sported a grin Ady grinned back, his smile was amazing something she was growing used to seeing and liking it more and more.
The idea of calling him master was not one Ady liked, though she didn’t mind joking with him about it. Her mind flashed to more sexual reasons for the name, but she quickly pushed those away knowing it was a fruitless thought or train of thoughts. “Agreed then, no typical pet names.” she nodded thankful they wouldn’t be degraded further by themselves, she knew the queen could call for more and she was sure she probably would at some point. “Perhaps we should settle on more friendly names? I prefer Ady to Adalyn.” She offered him a nick name for herself, a pet name.
Ady couldn’t imagine not remembering a childhood or a life before what she was now. She held on to those memories when it was hard, the memories faded more each year as it passed. “Do you miss what you didn’t have?” She question him as much as herself wondering if she’d missed her memories once she couldn’t remember them any longer. When their conversation moved to the concept of time Ady smiled again agreeing with statement, since she’d met him she could remember ever moment they’d shared. His words would have made her blush if she could, or at the very least make her heart race instead she spoke. “I remember all out moments together too. Very clearly.” She smiled unable to put her words as eloquently as him.

Remiel was surprised by her words. He would have thought she'd have held some resentment towards him for not speaking up, or thought him a coward, not be able to say now that sometimes it was smarter to stay quiet. His staying quiet hadn't helped to lessen what she'd gone through. But he knew saying something wouldnt have helped either. He appreciated her words and gave a slight nod of agreement.
"Agreed" He said, as she spoke of how they'd have no typical pet names. He hoped he wouldnt be called to the court to 'perform' with his pet and would just be allowed to go on, and allow her to live her life. She was under his care now, so the queen shouldnt have any more say in it. He smiled gently as she told him she preffered Ady to Adalyn. He took this as a sign of friendship that she didnt mind him calling her by a nickname. "Ady is nice. You can call me Remy if you like, I dont know if I prefer one name to the other" He said honestly, not caring if she preferred to continue calling him Remiel.
Remy wasn't sure he knew how to answer her question. Could you miss something you never had, or only things you had experienced. He missed what he used to be, but wasn't sure about the childhood. "I don't know that it would have been any better than what I did have" He told her as truthfully as he could, without attempting any word play. He smiled as she responded to his comment on knowing the exact amount of time they'd spent together by saying that she remembered all of their moments as well. "I suppose it has held meaning for us both"

Her life was someone else’s now, or atleast that is how the Queen would have it. The idea was horrible to Ady, but not as bad as it would be if it was someone else. There was something about Remiel that attracted her and made her not mind him as her master. Looking up at him Ady smiled a little looking him over in a hopefully subtle manner. “Remy, it’s a nice way to shorten it. My parents and siblings always called me Ady, Adalyn is a little filling.” She said with a smile. He was handsome, but Ady found a part of her mind remind her of the cruelty his kind were capable off.
Talking about childhood made Ady think of the city above as it was when she was a child and knew nothing of the world she now walked in. “I grew up here. In New York.” She offered with out preamble thought she wondered where he had been a child. She could remember how the city looked then how different everything was. “My family is buried in the little cemetery over on the east side.” She offered again with a shrug, it was a place she visited several times since she’d returned.
Their moments had held meaning, more then she knew they should. They were different yet she wanted to see him whenever they were apart, it was a feeling she was constantly wrestling with. “A meaning it shouldn’t have.” She said sadly knowing her words were true but not wanting them to be. “I’ll live with you now?” She said changing the subject as she took a step to walk the corridor again.
