Character name: James Soarwind
Nicknames: Little Brother James
Face Claim:
Tom Felton
Gender: Male
Age: 19
Race: Nephilim
Family and Friends: His father died in the battle against Valentine, his mother runs an Institute in Venice, Italy. His Uncle was one of the Silent brothers killed by Valentine and Agramon.
Physical Description: James is of average height, and is rather lean. He’s not as muscular as other demon hunters, as his strength is of his mind. He has pale skin, light hair, and green eyes. He rarely wears the nephilim battle gear, instead wearing a white cloak, coated in emerald runes which designates him as a Silent Brother in training. When he isn’t studying, he wears your average mundane clothing, jeans and a t-shirt.
Personality: Naturally curious and inventive. He believes nothing and tests everything. His morals are lacking, he believes nothing should interfere with the quest for knowledge. He isn’t a bad person, he’s actually rather friendly, he just doesn’t believe in right or wrong like other people. He believes that as long as your actions cause no harm to others, even if it violates some other rule, then you should do as you please.
James is inventive, creative, and has an insatiable appetite for knowledge. He is very social, and a natural explorer. He can’t stand not knowing, and has very little patience. He is easily bored with repetitive and monotonous tasks, but takes great thrill in the new and exciting.
History: Born in Idris, James was never normal. He was always a curious child, and that got him hurt on multiple occasions. His parents wanted him to be a powerful warrior, a common dream for Shadow Hunter parents. James, however, had very little physical skill. James was a bit of a nerd, he read books that were years above his level, he was constantly taking things apart, and he enjoyed learning. When he was 12, he met his uncle for the first time. Its not that his family was secretive about his uncle, but his uncle was a Silent Brother, and was very busy. As soon as James sat down and talked with his uncle, he knew that he wanted to be a Silent Brother.
James’s parents were, less than enthused. They supported him, but they wished he had chosen a more conventional path. James has been studying runes in depth sense he was 13, using a ‘borrowed’ copy of the grey book. He was infinitely interested, and even aquired massive tomes, some of which were dedicated to a single rune.
At age 15, Jame was initiated as a Brother in training. He was given access to unlimited knowledge, the rarest runes and tomes. He even had access to the mortal Cup and Sword. But his hunger for knowledge was unappeased. He wanted more.
On his 16th birth day, he left Idris to study abroad. He was connected to the world of the Shadow Hunters only through the City of Bones.
James began to delve into the occult and the arcane. He studied with warlocks, and communicated with demons, trying to gain infinite knowledge. However, he grew bored with demon’s and their half truths, whole-lies, and how they contradicted each other.
Then he learned of Clarissa Morgenstern. The girl who could make her own runes. She had power, and knowledge, and James wanted it. James began to study Clary from the shadows, trying to find traces of the runes she had made, adding them to those he already possessed.
Now, at 19, James has grown slightly bored with Clary. He has already copied down the rune she used to beat Valentine, the rune she used to enter Idris, and even the rune she used on Simon. But now, he wants to delve deeper into the history of angels, demons, and the nephilim. Will he be the next Valentine? Or will he be something worse? Will his thirst for knowledge drive him over the edge, or will he push the Nephilim forward into a new age?
Sample RP: James sat alone in the City of Bones archives. Centuries of knowledge, and none of it could interest him. If he had to read another paragraph of some family lineage, he was going to set this place ablaze.
“And curiosity begat monotony, which begat boredom, which begat pyromania!” he groaned in parody of the family tree format he had suffered through for the past half-hour. He stood from his seat, letting the thick tome fall lifeless to the ground. After all of the Silent Brothers were massacred, James usually had this section to himself. Perhaps, now that no one was watching, it was time to break a few rules?
James made his way to ‘The Vault’. A place where all the confiscated and forbidden tome were kept. This place was off limits, except to full fledged Silent Brothers, but who was going to stop him?
The boy pulled out his stele, a ornate, beautiful tool. Unlike the sturdy silver wands used in the thick of battle, this jewel encrusted stele, made with the finest silver, was used for mor complex and powerful runes, and was rumored to be similar to the one used to inscribe the rune of Silence. Regardless, James took the tool in his hand, and carefully wrote the rune which would open the door. More powerful and complex then the ‘Open’ rune used by most, this could be considered the rune of ‘Access’, used to unlock doors held shut by equally powerful ‘Prevent Access’ runes. The large marble door gracefully opened, and lo-and-behold. Ancient, secret, and powerful books. So many books, so much time. James felt it was perfect.
“Where to begin?” he asked himself. He grabbed a book from a nearby shelf, it was bound in black leather, and was entitled ‘The Rune of Heresey: A study of the fabled Demonic Runes and their uses’. James smiled. Forbidden knowledge. There was nothing sweeter.
