What is XBH?

Extra Base Hits:

XBH = (2B + 3B + HR)
XBH% = (2B + 3B + HR)/hits

now i feel really dumb... that was kinda obvious

My husband nephew just threw out a bunch of stats trying to convince me that the MFY are a better team and I looked at that and it meant nothing to me..

My answer to him...

8 GB
18 E

Ok it says no question too dumb.

OBP -which I know is On Base Percentage  that is the number of times the player is on base.  Which includes walks ?

Slugging Percentage-  where does that percentage come from ?  I have tried and tried to figure that out,  but it makes no sense to me wacko.gif

OBP includes walks, SLG does not. SLG (slugging percentage) is a measure of power.

OBP = (H + BB + HBP) / (AB + BB + HBP)

SLG = (1B + (2 x 2B) + (3 x 3B) + (4 x HR)) / AB

Small correction, Your Thinness:

OBP = (H + BB + HBP) / (AB + BB + HBP + SF)

Sac flies aren't charged as an at-bat, so they're added into the denominator. Sac bunts are not, and I can't explain why.

The logic is that a sac bunt is a deliberate play where the batter sacrifices his opportunity to get a hit in order to move the runner over.

A sac fly is not considered to be a deliberate play, just a fly ball that would have been an oh-for-one if it did not occur with a man on third scoring.

So no penalty (plate appearance) in the OBP formula for a sac bunt, but a plate appearance is recorded for a sac fly.

That makes some sense although there is room to quibble.

Anyway, that's the explanation
