That's the key for me. He started the inning with a low pitch count and he was facing the worst offense in baseball. The only reason for a quick hook I can see is if the trainers and / or pitching coach are concerned about fatigue. Otherwise it's the perfect time for him to stretch out a bit. And earn something.

Don't try to strike everybody out. Strikeouts are boring! Besides that, they're fascist. Throw some ground balls - it's more democratic.
