I'll take the over also.

Edit: More specifically, his PECOTA projection is .263/.372/.492 with 24 HR. I'll take the over on those numbers.

I'd take the over on PECOTA 24 but the under on UotM 30

I don't very often get into predicting things, other than things like the sun will rise tomorrow somewhere over a free country, but I'm stoked with optimism about Papi this year.

Call me Crazy, I took the over with a great deal more confidence than would, at this juncture, seem prudent. But, after all this time, I trust my here-to-fore accurate "Red Sox Fan Gut." Lol.

As for the team, that same Gut tells me we win the Division, the AL pennant and the WS. So there! tongue.gif

I agree with all of this. The big guy is playing for what will likely be his last big pay day, and, if he's healthy, I'm very much anticipating a "rumors of my demise have been greatly exaggerated" type of season.

Oh, and Tracey, if I'm wrong and he duplicates what he did last year...as long as the club maintains reasonable to good health, they are still a very strong contender. If healthy...NOBODY...and I mean NOBODY...will have a better rotation

And this is why I really don't buy the "David Ortiz is going to hit .220 with 22 HR if we're lucky" theories.

David Ortiz had a .904 OPS from June through October 2009.

A full season of that is good for 12th in the AL (with 3 teammates – Youkilis, Bay, and Drew – playing a part in keeping him out of the top 10).

Obviously it wasn't a full season of that, and that's the reason people are worried that he's cooked. But I'd be a lot more concerned if his season went the other way around – that is, he had a .904 OPS through the end of May and then went .570 the rest of the way.

But as it is, the guy's most recent 4-month body of work suggests that, sure, he's not the unstoppable 2005-2007 Big Papi anymore...but he's pretty damn good.

If there are three better designated hitters in the league this year than David Ortiz, I'll be surprised. I'm not saying that he's going to hit .300 or hit 45 HR or knock in 130 runs. But I'm not concerned, that's for sure.

I agree with all of that, Rom. Papi's numbers for last year definitely point to his having gotten back on track.
Okay, so maybe he's lost a tad. He is far from being all washed up.
Sometimes I really think that the habituation of all those years of misery and sorrow we lived through as Red Sox fans still rears its ugly head now and again. As in, "Let's see. What shall we moan and groan about today?"
Enjoy "the good life," folks!
Two WS in the past six years! Making the playoffs all but one! Having a great, exciting team to root for AGAIN this year!
Good Lord! What more do you want as a Red Sox fan? We've paid our "weeping and gnashing of teeth" dues. Time to revel in the glory of having another contender to cheer on instead of another also-ran.
Hell's bells, boys and girls, anyone really want to root for any other team in MLB?
I thought not.
So, quit the bellyaching. Lol. And don't bite on all the BS our erstwhile Sports writers are spewing.
Okay?
