Apparently this is a high-school aged Australian power bat who's being looked at for tools rather than skills and will probably play 1B.

What the heck, though, I just wanted that title biggrin.gif

that is pretty cool, the Tainui tribe is from Waikato region of New Zealand .. I played rugby with a couple of tribe members in Wellington .. they were fine, classy, fun loving gentlemen and gifted athletes ... it's probably 1000 to one but it would be neat to see the kid in 8 years in mlb

I'm sure it's hyperbole... but David Ortiz "mould"... really?!?!?

Seems like a nice 'gent. Looking forward to seeing him go!

Closer than you might think. Papi's got that enormous upper body over the Boss, but Moanaroa's only 17 so that might develop a bit.

"Glamour club the Boston Red Sox ..."

I'm still trying to get used to the new world order. wacko.gif blink.gif

--------------------
The young Bill James rather famously wrote that he could not find any evidence that certain types of players could consistently hit better in the clutch – he still has not found that evidence. But unlike his younger self, he will not dismiss the idea of clutch hitting. He has been a consultant for the Red Sox for more than a decade, and he has watched David Ortiz deliver so many big hits in so many big moments, and he finds himself unwilling to deny that Big Papi does have an ability in those situations others don’t have.

I think that article gives you an idea of just how raw baseball is in this part of the world. Most people don't even kmow what baseball is. I'm sure the Boss was purely a physical tools signing.

Mitch Dening, a more established Aussie will be playing RF for the Lowell Spinners, I'll be interested to see how he does. It will be a while, maybe 2 years before we even see The Boss in rookie ball.

Turns out that Boss has a brother, Moko. Sox signed him too.
