I'll try not to do this too often.

But my second favorite team got off to a good start, 7-0 against the Giants on the road....almost a mirror image of the Sox opener.

Bard, 4 for 5 with a double, RBI and 2 runs scored. Meredith with a scoreless inning in the seventh. Wells, resting up, as befits his #5 starter role.

Go Pad Sox.

And Peavy, who Kevin Towers refused to include in a Manny deal.........6 innings of scoreless, 98 pitch, 6K work.

I hope the kid does really well but another side of me doesn't want to be banging my head about losing him....

I'm looking at all these traded players doing well as "learning opportunities" for the FO.

I knew this would happen...and I knew how I would react...

How about we trade Crisp back to the Indians for Trot and move Drew over to CF??? Anyone who wouldn't do that deal today??

Of course, we got a very highly skilled young pitcher back in the Hanley deal, so the best way to make sure that the Marlins will deal with us in the future is to give them crap that collapses at the first signt of a major league game, right?

Quality for quality folks. You can argue who got the best of the deal, which is the best kind of deal.

There's something to be said about the effect of playing for a new team has on a player. Odds are, they're gonna jump out the gate and show what they got. As much as I really really love Trot, it was clear that there's little left in the tank. Not re-signing him was a sad inevitability.

Of course, we can smack our foreheads and say "D'oh!" when someone like Trot performs as he did recently, but still....I think long term, the FO did the right thing. Doesn't mean I like it....But despite having days of putting up inspiring numbers, I think that bringing back Trot would've been a risk not worth taking.

Why not wait until 50 or so games have been played and then compare Trot to Drew and see if that sheds any light on the intelligence behind not re-signing him.

I'm sure by that point they will look like 2 entirely different players.
