Starting tonight, the Red Sox will play 20 of their next 23 games (in 24 days) against teams that figure to be playoff contenders this season. Eleven of those games will come on the road. The schedule: May 3-6 Angels May 7-9 Yankees May 10-12 Blue Jays May 14-16 at Tigers May 17-18 at Yankees May 19-20 Twins May 21-23 at Philadelphia May 24-26 at Tampa Bay Come May 27, the season will be 30 percent over and the Sox will know whether they are contenders or frauds. The opportunity is there to plant themselves among the best teams in baseball ... or to be contemplating what players should be traded for prospects to get a jump on 2011. Road to ruin or recovery?

As always, I am an optimist about the Sox. I think we've hit bottom as a team and it's only up from here. I'm still not liking Hall or Beltre (although I know he's hitting) but I enjoy seeing some of the call ups - Van Every and McDonald have provided some high points of this small season.
Pitching needs to step it up. Defense needs to show up every night. Bats need to be connecting for hits. It will happen. I has to for this to be the bottom.

FYI, Thin Jr and I will be at the May 19 game versus the Twins, showing our support for the team.

I voted yes, it's early.
Of course it might be easier to answer in 24 days, but the point is what do you think now and going in, I still believe this is a good team that hasn't clicked. It's not too late.

And if the Sox do manage to turn things around, most of those "give it up now" folks will be looking to jump back on the bandwagon come July. I almost gave up on this team too early in '04. Won't be tempted by that mistake again.

Which side am I[I] on? I assume it will surprise noone reading this that I am in no way ready to give up on the Red Sox season. Im not sure if it has made me laugh or pained me more, to read posters on lots of different graves get out their shovels to bury the Red Sox. It may be Sox snobbish of me,but I do wonder what percent of these whiners have been Sox fans all their lives, which would make them about 6 years old. Its been a very tough April for the team, I know, and there are alot of reasons. I wonder how much the sadness that we feel watching David Ortiz so far, that the strange feelings around and from Mike Lowell, Teks Dads illness the search for a shortstop and a catcher to fill some very big shoes and some other "negative" intangibles have affected the clubhouse. There are also a good number of new faces on the team and even when everything else is going smoothly, it is always work for everyone to adjust and learn to play as a team. It is also very very hard watching Wakefield struggle. If the team was having it's usual April, "fitting in " the games he needs to reach the record would almost be a no brainer, now it is a but of a worry. Our pitching is begninng to sharpen up, though I still feel someone should remind DiceK that he's been paid 3360 billion dollars and needs to listen to Red Sox coaches, Tito and the rest of his bosses. He can trusdt his gutt on his own time, because it hasn't done us much good for the last 2 years.
By the All STar Break I believe we will be enough in it that Theo can decide what moves he can make, and what we need.
It pisses me off watching so many jumping off brdges (I dont mean you guys) but then again the funniest thing is about sports fans is something I am looking forward to: everyone who has decided that the season cannott be salvaged, jumping right back on and insisting they never left when the tide soon turns.
KEEP THE FAITH!!!!!
