Title: Jed Lowrie
ThinMan - July 6, 2010 10:05 PM (GMT)
Jed Lowrie was sighted in Lowell last night, DHing for the Spinners.
Offbase - July 6, 2010 10:42 PM (GMT)
FAB posted that he saw reports of his being thin and pale.
EAT UP, JED!!!
ThinMan - July 20, 2010 12:03 PM (GMT)
NEWS FLASH: The Red Sox would have considered bringing Nick Green back, but because Jed Lowrie is making such good progress at Pawtucket, the team feels it has infield backup. Green has been designated for assignment by the Blue Jays.Game Updates

Reposting from the Misc. thread:
I followed
this link from the Extra Bases blog and found this:
Torey also recognizes the travails of talented Jed Lowrie. The Sox could use a middle infielder who can hit and Lowrie fills the bill. Could Boston try to hurry his progress? "He's had a tough run of it. He's been through the wringer" Lovullo said sympathetically. He quickly added "He's exactly where he should be right now. He's healthy, he is strong, his spirit is good and I think that is the most important thing for Jed, because when he is on, he's a pretty spectacular player."I'm having to fight an irrational excitement at the possibly imminent Return of the Jedi.
I'm not sure spectacular is the right word for him. But I retain my opinion that he knows what he's doing with a bat and he makes the plays he should make with a glove and that's a valuable combination. Of course, if Jed wants to be spectacular, who am I to object? :weg:

Yikes! I liked what jed coud have been, but now relying on Jed may not be better than when Hitler had the Hitler youth defending Berlin in the later stages of the war.Id just assume have the sox let jed play himself into sahpe and get ready for next season or at best sept call up.
rominer - July 20, 2010 10:40 PM (GMT)
Joe McDonald says Lowrie will be activated on Wednesday.
http://espn.go.com/blog/boston/red-sox/pos...ie-on-wednesdayI would imagine that this means "thank you for your 6 totally useless at bats, Ryan Shealy," although somewhere along the lines the end of the Eric Patterson era seems likely, too. Which is sort of a shame, as Patterson's versatility has come in handy. But not that much a shame. Dustin Pedroia's laser show would come in a lot more handy.
Eventually.

Hmm. Guess who's starting at SS today?

Jed still has warning track power.

It's not necessarily a knock. The guy didn't have 83 sacrifice flies in his rookie year by accident. It's just funny. He came in to pinch hit, gave a tough at bat, and it ended exactly how I thought it would when he stepped into the box: A drive to deep right field...caught by Ichiro.
Lowrie seems like a guy who might suddenly find 15-20 HR power in his late 20s/early 30s when he puts on a little weight. Until then, he's good for a lot of doubles and a lot of those brief moments of "Yes!" that end in "Oh."
(Not to be confused with brief moments of "oh" that end in "yes!" I'll leave that to you female monsters) :boohiss:

I think that long fly specialty that Jed displayed in 2008 was wrist related and that healthy a lot of those balls would have gone further.
I'm not saying he's a 30 HR guy. I actually think the high end of your guess is pretty close.
As for the female fan perspective, he doesn't do much for me. I just like him as a player. That is possible ya know. :curtsey: :raspberry:

Sure, but someone must have a thing for goofy looking guys who smile a lot.
As for his HR power: His best year in the minors was 13 HR between A and AA in 2007. Not that there's anything resembling an extensive track record there – and once you get to '08, the wrist comes into play.
But I would think (maybe completely erroneously) that the wrist has more to do with making adjustments on pitches than with how far he can drive them – and I don't think he hit all those sac flies because he was just missing the pitches. He makes solid contact, he has an uppercut swing, if he puts on 15 lbs. those balls start to leave the yard. Until then, he's hoping he finds the gaps...or that there's a man on 3rd with less than two outs.
That's fine, too. His numbers in the minors and his half-season at the MLB level in '08 suggest that he could be a 40-50 doubles guy while we wait for him to hit the buffet line a few more times. I can live with that.

I'm sure Mr. Lowrie has no trouble finding dates. I can't imagine any professional athlete does.
OK, maybe Joba.
Anyway, let's hope Jed has a good supply of protein shakes!

From Chad Finn:
4. He'd been away so long that I actually forgot how annoying Jed Lowrie's fundamental flaws -- or flawed fundamentals -- are as a defensive player. Not only does he sling the ball off-balance when it's not always necessary, but he's as inaccurate as a Broncos backup quarterback when he does so.
His Nomar-style, off-target sling to first Friday night against the Rangers allowed Josh Hamilton to hustle home with the tying run, and it was reminder that while Lowrie doesn't make many errors as a defensive player, he makes plenty of mistakes.
Up in arms

Off balance being the operative word. He was dizzy from heat exhaustion.
If he's guilty of that kind of throw in the past, I missed either seeing it or reading about it - which is possible.

Lets not get oer hyper about one hr.Having said that there has to be a reason that theo has not gien up on him, maybe we finally will see it,if Beltre is gone lowrie will be the key in what the sox do this offseason.Until proven, its not proven but lets hope.

Tracey, you know I've been a Lowrie fan for a long time (I think it was 2007 when I saw him in AA). My only reservation has been his ability to stay healthy. He's not completely out of the woods on that one, but he's right at the edge. I love his combination of offense and defense; it's too bad he missed the opportunity to take over SS, but that's how the cookie crumbled.
I'm not over hyping one home run, I'm just really happy that he's finally back and showing us what he can do. And even though I was already a fan, I'm impressed that after all the stop and go he's been through over the last two years, he hasn't missed a beat with a bat in his hands ... and I suspect that talent is the reason you mention that the team hasn't given up on him.
(I'm not sure he's the best option for 3B if we don't keep Beltre, but it probably doesn't hurt our bargaining position that he is an option.)

Base I was a jed supporter particulary when he was a ss candidate a couple of years ago,now im just another guy questioning his abiity to stay on the field.I disagree with you on one point,i really think the sox hae in mind to have him starting at 3rd next year,Id be shocked if theo went al in on Beltre, and the options for another 3rd baseman are limited.I suspect that its safe now to assume that the sox may not be players for agon unless they are dealing Youk, which I doubt, this is why what lowrie does here is critical for next season.I am hoping that its works for jed.we need him

I would not be surprised to see Jed as the utility infielder next season. I would be considerably more surprised to see him as the starting third baseman.

If he continue to be productive I would think he woud be given the opp to win the job, right now the compitition is lite.
