Title: Bye Julio, hello Chris Duncan.

Theo has made another trade, this time trading Julio Lugo to St. Louis for Chris Duncan, OF and a PTBNL. Chris will likely be assigned to Pawtucket and serve in the insurance backup role. He's considered to be a poor fielder with a potentially good bat. His career was almost derailed by recent neck disk surgery. We will be paying the full salary for Lugo this year and next.

He has 3 years major league service and this is his last option year. That means he has to make the 2010 roster or we risk losing him. The move also necessitates his being on the 40 man roster, maybe Dice-K to the 60 day as the countermove.

Wow. How far Julio has fallen. He was a big sign a few years ago and now the Sox are essentially paying him to play for another team in exchange for a mediocre pinch hitter. Sheesh.

Yeah, perhaps, but again not bad.

Duncan plays a lot of positions, albeit mediocrely (but not embarassingly).

He's a career .458 slugger (.805 OPS, nothing to sneeze at over his 4.5 years) and hits a homer about every 20 at-bats.

Lugo sucked.

Lugo had a hell of a first night with the Cardinals. Home run and a triple!

Why can't we get players like that? :raspberry:
