Canons

If you decide to choose a canon, thats super. If you want to create an original character, that's equally wonderful! Below are a list of some of the families and groups in Meryton, though the list is by no means exhaustive! To reserve a canon, fill in the following code and post. Canons are based on a first come, first serve basis in favour of those who reserved them first. Please don't feel obliged to give a character the same name as they have in the book, it's completely upto you. Follow the key to see whether a canon is available, reserved or taken.

The Nobility

Netherfield Park
-Mr ____ Bingley- 22 years old
charming, handsome, sociable and conveniently wealthy, Mr Bingley's arrival delights the neighbourhood, particularly Mrs Bennet who can think of nothing more than him marrying one her daughters.

-Miss ____ Bingley- 23 years old
The elder sister of Mr Bingley, Miss Bingley is never seen in anything but the latest fashions and laments her brother's poor choice of location. Anywhere that is outside of London is positively uncivilised. However, Mr Darcy's presence is somewhat of a relief.

-Mr ____ Darcy- 28 years old
What he lacks in social skills, Mr Darcy makes up in wealth, having twice as much as his good friend, Mr Bingley. His stay in Meryton would be made much easier if not for Miss Bennet's dark eyes, Bingley's odious sister and the disreputable Lt. Wickham.

Haye Park
-Mr ____ Goulding- 53 years old
A secretive man, he spends most of his time locked away in his study, deep in thought. Apart from the suspicious death of his first wife a number of years ago, he has little to plague his mind.

-Mrs ____ Goulding- 42 years old
Mr Goulding's second wife and mother of his younger two children, she finds his unsociable attitude unbearable. She has tried many a method to force him to socialize more, if only for the sake of their daughter.

--Master ____ Goulding- 26 years old
There is little this young man does not know about the family estate which he hopes to inherit. In fact, his life at present is quiet content apart from the lingering suspicions that his mother's death might not have been so simple.

A restless and fiery nature and an opressive environment does not bode well. Master Goulding has consistently pushed the boundaries of acceptability, first with his friendship with the youngest Miss Bennet and more recently his attentions to Miss Lloyd.

--Miss ____ Lucas- 27 years old
A witty, though still unmarried, young woman. Her current state is at the forefront of her mind and she believes herself to be a burden on her entire family. Her friendship with the two eldest Miss Bennets does not serve her well, making her appear all the more plain.

It has been a number of years since he last returned to Meryton. Now, aged twenty four and with a University degree under his belt, Master Lucas is at a loss as to what to do next.

Though she means well, Mrs Bennet's gossiping, highly strung nature irratates Mr Bennet and embarrases her daughters, who she intends to marry off well and as soon as possible.

--Miss ____ Bennet- 22 years old
Arguably one of the most attractive girls in the county, it is a wonder the eldest Miss Bennet is still unmarried. Perhaps her almost niave and trusting nature is a cause of this. All is not lost, however, as the eligible Mr Bingley arrives in the neighbourhood.

--Miss Elizabeth Bennet- 20 years old
Second in age and beauty, Miss Bennet has excelled where her other sisters have failed in being sharp, lively and free thinking. She is only hindered by her selective, almost prejudiced judgements of others, which Mr Darcy quickly falls foul of.

The arrival of the militia to the town has brought about a number of excited giggles from the youngest Miss Bennet and her older sister. What could be better than young men in uniform?

The young bride of Colonel Forster, Mrs Forster still revels in the attentions of the regiment, the favourite out of all the soldier's wives. She instinctively gets along with the two youngest Miss Bennets

More morally centered than any of his fellow soldiers, Cpt Fielding is deemed to be a little too 'high and mighty' by his peers. He looks for a chance to amend this unfortunate reputation but sees no way he can.

-Lieutenant ____ Wickham
Lt Wickham has been welcomed warmly by the people of Meryton. Handsome, charming and sociable, he is everyone's favourite soldier. Even the Bennet family has taken to him. However, behind the uniform, is he as respectable as people believe?

When faced with the choice of the Army or prison, would anyone have taken a different path? The manner of his crime is all Meryton and the regiment talks about. His and Miss Bond's relationship, on the other hand, goes quite unnoticed.

The Bond Family

Meryton's source of gossip, there is very little that escapes Mrs Bond's attention. Suprisingly, she seems unaware of her daughter's infatuation with a certain disreputable soldier

Compelled by her charitable nature, Miss Bond has recently taken to conversing with Private Hayes, where all others avoid him. Though aware of the rumours it may incur, she cannot keep herself away from him.

He and his brother, Master Bond, are the jokers of the neighbourhood, frequently causing confusion by switching places. Life is nothing more than a lark for the twins.

He and his brother, Master Bond, are the jokers of the neighbourhood, frequently causing confusion by switching places. Life is nothing more than a lark for the twins. Miss Goulding is never far from his thoughts though, despite her higher status.

The Everton Family

-Mrs ____ Everton- 37 years old
The pinnacle of respectability in Meryton, Mrs Everton would never associate herself with the lower classes and is all too keen to promote the family's status. She has a strong dislike of Mrs Bond and her gossiping ways.

Despite all his education, Master Everton would much rather become a farmer, much to his family's disdain. He loves nothing more than the outdoors and all matters agricultural.

--Miss ____ Everton- 16 years old
Miss Everton is in the unlucky position of being good friends with both Miss King and Miss Lloyd, stuck in the middle of their animosity. It tires and frustrates her endlessly, though the militia's arrival brightens her spirits. Having only just been introduced into society, she looks forward to dancing with as many eligible officers as possible.

The Gill Family
-Mr ____ Gill- 32 years old
Widowed five years ago, Mr Gill left the city behind for Meryton with his young daughter Miss Gill. Of course, he could not bring his daughter up alone and so employed Miss Keenan last year. Conveniently, she takes care of his daughter whilst he focuses on his research.

The Keenan Family
-Mr ____ Keenan- 25 years old
Mr Keenan climbed aboard a boat to England with his sister Miss Keenan almost eight years ago. Since then, a majority of their time has been spent in Meryton, he working as a gardener and handyman, she as a nurse. His most recent employer is Mr Watson and his sister. He and Miss Watson have struck up an odd relationship as he tries to convince her there is more to life than her brother.

-Miss ____ Keenan- 24 years old
Working as a nurse and governess for the Gills has its ups and downs. Two advantages are the adorable Miss Gill and the intellegent, kind Mr Gill. However, the main disadvantage is the fact that he barely acknowledges her presence.

The King Family
-Mr ____ King- 40 years old

-Mrs ____ King- 38 years old

--Miss ____ King- 17 years old
Miss King has been a rival of Miss Lloyd for their entire lives, always competing for suitors and so forth. The only thing they have in common is their friendship with Miss Everton. Much to her annoyance, Miss Lloyd has gained the attentions of Master Goulding. How can she better that? Well the soldiers of course.

The Lloyd Family
-Dr ____ Lloyd- 38 years old
Dr Lloyd has lived in Meryton all his life and is the most respected doctor in the area, serving everyone from the nobility to the poor. He is perhaps one of the few people who knew what actually killed the first Mrs Goulding. It is this knowledge that makes him dislike Master Goulding's attentions to his daughter. That and the fact he's somewhat of a scoundrel.

--Miss ____ Lloyd- 17 years old
Unaware of the history her father has with Master Goulding's family, she is simply content to bask in his affections and be the envy of all the other girls in town, especially the eldest Miss King

-Dr ____ Knowles- 27 years old
Dr Knowles, a recent addition to the medical profession and Meryton, has come to gain experience from Dr Lloyd and observe. The effect the young doctor has had on the women of Meryton is worth observing in itself. Quite a number have come down with the flu yet with no apparent syptoms...

The Maynard Family
-Mrs ____ Maynard- 51 years old
Running the town's only fabric and clothing establishment, Mrs Maynard has little time to herself. Fortunately, her sister Miss Burnham is there to assist her, most notably with their niece and nephew, Miss and Master Burnham, who have come to live with them.

-Miss ____ Burnham- 50 years old
The more approachable of the two sisters, Miss Burnham moved in with Mrs Maynard after the death of her husband in order to help with the running of her shop. However, she found her help was mostly required in the house itself. Now, she takes primary care of their relatives.

-Master ____ Burnham- 21 years old
The death of their father over the summer unnerved he and his sister, Miss Burnham. What concerned them more was their mother's swift remarriage, despite her age. They intended to move to America and so sent the two siblings to stay with their aunts in Meryton. He has made fast friends with the McLeods and is fairly content with his new life.

More sentimental and attatched than her brother, Miss Burnham took the death of her father and remarriage of her mother harder than Master Burnham. She is still not her old self, even in Meryton, and struggles to socialise with anyone, preferring to stay inside and sew dresses.

The McLeod Family
-Mr ____ McLeod- 45 years old
Originally from the north of Scotland, Mr McLeod travelled to England with his wife. However, after giving birth to his youngest daughter, she quickly passed away. He had accepted his loneliness until the arrival of the Robinson family with the enchanting Mrs Robinson. For the past two years, they have conducted an affair. However, what neither of them know is middle Master Robinson has discovered their secret, threatening the amicable alliance between the two families.

--Master ____ McLeod- 22 years old
A close family friend of the Robinson boys, he has no idea of the affair between his father and Mrs Robinson. Master McLeod, being a friendly, popular young man, has also befriended Master Burnham along with his sister,Miss Burnham, whom he is determined to introduce to everyone in the neighbourhood before the winter is out, despite her reluctance.

Miss McLeod has taken on the mother role in her household, caring for her brother and father, which Meryton seems to approve of. Included in this number is the eldest Master Robinson, who she has been betrothed to for the past year. What will happen to their budding relationship when the truth concerning their parents is revealed?

The Robinson Family
-Mr ____ Robinson- 47 years old
Mr Robinson is a man content. He runs the successful Red Lion Inn, has fine, well mannered sons and a charming wife, who he loves dearly. His world would be destroyed if he ever discovered Mrs Robinson's infidelity.

-Mrs ____ Robinson- 42 years old
Unlike her husband, Mrs Robinson detests her boring, unchanging life. The only excitement she ever experiences is around Mr McLeod. It is a difficult task, pretending that they are no more than friends but it must be done, for society's sake

--Master ____ Robinson- 23 years old
Master Robinson's future is decided. He will marry Miss McLeod, the charming girl next door, and run the Red Lion Inn whenever his father chooses to retire. His younger brother, on the other hand, has information that would make short work of destroying his dream.

--Master ____ Robinson- 21 years old
Resentful and bitter, Master Robinson is largely ignored and underestimated by his family. On discovering his mothers and Mr McLeod's affair, he has struggled to contain the secret, prevented only by the guilt of ruining his elder brother's happiness.

The Shaw Family
-Mr Charles Shaw- 39 years old
Mr Shaw is currently a low level clerk in a law office in Meryton- a clever man of letters, but not cunning or industrious enough to rise far in his profession. At home he is somewhat indolent and easygoing, leaving much of the management to his wife. He complains of being henpecked but is in fact perfectly happy with his situation.

-Mrs Emily Shaw- 35 years old
A small, crampt house, not enough money, five children and another on the way in three months... Mrs Shaw has enough on her hands without having to think about the return of her brother, Lt Keynes, and his companion, Mr Torrinha who takes up yet more space. Mrs Shaw feels overwhelmed by her children, though her strong will and hand give her control and dominance in the house.

--Miss Amelie Shaw- 17 years old
Miss Shaw is a quiet, warm hearted girl who feels her lack of future prospects very keenly. The arrival of her Uncle, Lt Keynes and his Portuguese friend, Mr Torrinha has brightened up Miss Shaw's day to day life considerably. She's taken on the responsibility of Mr Torrinha's care, not that his good looks have anything to do with it...

-Lieutenant Christopher Keynes- 37 years old
Lieutenant Keynes is a Naval officer currently on half-pay, hoping for an active posting on a ship but with little chance of getting one, as he has little influence and few friends among the higher ranks of the Navy. Most of his half-pay goes to help his sister,Mrs Shaw, manage her household expenses and recompense her for allowing him to stay there. He is a man of easy good humour and relaxed manners, with a strong sense of honour and duty.

-Mr Angelo Torrinha- 22 years old
A close friend of Lt Keynes, Mr Torrinha has incapacitated himself of late. Whilst working upon the same ship as Lt Keynes, a bullet meant for Lt Keynes shattered Mr Torrinha's arm. Whilst falling, he hit his head on something and can barely remember a thing. Lt Keynes saw fit to bring Mr Torrinha to Meryton for medical assistance, unaware of the effect he'd have on his niece Miss Shaw.

The Watson Family
-Mr ____ Watson- 26 years old
A relatively well known poet, Mr Watson has escaped to England's countryside along with his sister, Miss Watson. All he requires is a little peace and quiet. Meryton, however, is far too intrigued to permit this.

-Miss ____ Watson- 23 years old
Orphaned at a young age and separated from her brother, the poet Mr Watson, the pair have been recently reunited. Rather than leave him in someone else's care, she has taken up the role of housekeeper. This position has brought her into direct contact with Mr Keenan, the handyman and gardener, who frustrates her more than she anticipated.
