Now that we've got everything put together, it's time to get this thing started! This is the thread in which you sign up for the gym leader tournament. Just post that you want to join and with the type of gym that you're looking to get. A couple of quick things: you must choose a pokémon type to center your gym around, know that you must have at least three pokémon of your gym's type ready to go before you can open it, and no pseudo-types are allowed (i.e. charizard may not be used for a dragon-type gym). Also, if you'd be willing to ref, please say so. Please only volunteer if you think that you'll be able to make the DQ time with your reffings.

If you're just tuning in now, here's the basic tournament information:

This tournament is a team battle tournament. You will be paired with a randomly selected partner and put up against a randomly selected opposing team. Your job is to work together to win. Both members of the winning team will move on to the next round and will be assigned a new random partner. This is a single-elimination tournament: if you lose one, you're out.

These are the terrain conditions and standard battle details:

Each participant uses one pokémon per battle (maximum of four on the field at once)

DQ: One Week. Automatic disqualification after two weeks even if posted as away (the tournament waits for no (wo)man).

Damage Cap: 30%

Banned Moves: OHKO's. Chills restricted to three/pokémon. Direct recovery moves restricted to three/pokémon.

Arena: Tranquility

This field is plain and simple and, until our battlers arrive, quite peaceful. The battle will take place at the center of a serene valley. The ground slopes up slightly as you leave the middle of the arena, the hillsides covered with long, thick grass and the occasional tree, heavily laden with small green apples. A large, still pool makes up the absolute center, surprisingly deep for all its circumfrence. It stretches nearly all the way across the arena, and its utterly still surface reflects the clouds overhead in unparalleled detail.

Also, instead of posting your pokémon choices in the thread, you send them directly to the ref via PM. If you wish, you may PM the ref several pokémon choices and have them pick one at random. The referee will also pick at random which team will post attacks first--both members of the team post attacks before the other team responds.

Tournament Tree

Round One: Three battles, six teams
Round Two: The three winning teams from round one, plus a team composed of the two trainers who managed to last the longest against one of the winning teams.
Round Three: The two winning teams from round two
Round Four: The members of the winning teams from round three square off to determine the final ranking.

Prizes

Round One: Each winner gets $6 and a catch/evolve; the ref gets $8
Round Two: Each winner gets $9 and a catch/evolve; the ref gets $12
Round Three: Each winner gets $12 and a catch/evolve; the ref gets $18

First Place: $75, a catch/evolve, and a gym
Second Place: $50, a catch/evolve, and a gym
Third Place: $25, a catch/evolve, and a gym
Runner-Up: $15 and a catch/evolve

Round One Participants
Negrek (normal)
Cheetah Inferno (flying)
Crystylla (dark)
honalululand (water)
Blueeyess202 (water)
Music Dragon (ground)
Zhorken fi'r Mih'riliai (dark)
Monkeysaurus (flying)
opaltiger (psychic)
Sling (ghost)
sandmouse (bug)
Dark Nido (poison)

Referees
Negrek
Zhorken fi'r Mih'riliai
opaltiger

Sign-ups are open from today (December 18th) until December 25th. After that, it will be a day or so until the actual tournament as the tree is built and teams are randomized. I will begin threads for each battle (as I will do at the start of each round), at which point you may PM your pokémon to the ref, who will take over the thread from there.

I'd like to join. I'll try for a Flying-type gym team, seeing as I already have two Flying-types.

You'll need three, Cheetah.

I'd like to try for a Dark-type Gym. I have four Dark-types already (Absol, Houndour, Sneasel and Murkrow), so I'm all set in that respect. =)

I would offer to ref, but I'm too lazy and reluctant to ref. >> <<

I'm signin' up for, surprisingly, a Ground-Type Gym. I've never really liked them, actually. Ironic.

I'll sign up for dark. I have, like, six dark-types and soon-to-be dark types. X3

I just hope my exams don't get in the way. My mom's a study freak, and tries to project that onto me, so my time might be somewhat constrained during January. I'll probably find some way out of it, though. :3

I sign up for Flying gym. Almost all of my Pokemon are that type, anyway.

Psychic type - currently have two registered but bought a few more; I'll head over to register them now.

edit: right so I registered them. Also, random partners? I was under the impression we'd go with opposite types ie Water/Fire together and so on?

You get paired up randomly, but the teams are then adjusted if very similar types are stuck together: thus, if Crystylla and Zhorken were randomly assigned together, I would redo the selection so that they would be put with partners that would better cover their weaknesses.

I believe you have to be the third rank whose name I forget for reffing before you can ref tournaments.

Which reminds me, I need to get some reffing done and ask to be graded for a promotion. o-o

Since nobody's reached the third tier of reffing yet, I'm willing to take people for the second bracket for this tournament, but yes, you need to be promoted at least once, zelda3908.

Yay, the second bracket is good enough. I'll ref then. :3
