A celestial light glimmers through the huge windows of the warship, where two trainers are standing, eager to battle. One, opaltiger, is stood silhouetted against the stars, grinning and tossing a Pokéball up and down with one hand in anticipation of the battle ahead. He looks confidently down the ship, towards his opponent. Said opponent, surskitty, is standing some 50 metres away, at the opposite end of the long walkway that runs centrally down the length of the ship. As the emergency lights glow unheeded, she is bathed in a red-orange warning light, which gleams off of the Pokéball held tighly in her hand. As the signal for the match to begin is given, both trainers hurl their chosen battlers into the arena - but who will they be? - opal sends out first - surskitty sends out and orders attacks - opal orders attacks - reffing |

hmm, looks like a feisty Dratini! :O Okay, dodge the first Ice Beam with a Double Team; then, dive down into one of the crew pits to avoid the second - your antural tunelling ability should help you move fast. Finally, get right up to it and use Dragonbreath; super effective AND decent chance of paralysis! Your clones, naturally, should follow.

[Monolith] :onix: (M) Health: 100% Energy: 100% Status: Confident about his superiority over his diminutive opponent. Attacks ordered: Double Team ~ Dive into crew pit ~ Dragonbreath [Draco] :dratini: (M) Health: 100% Energy: 100% Status: Wary but calm, and raring to go. Attacks ordered: Iron Tail/Ice Beam ~ Iron Tail/Ice Beam ~ Iron Tail/Ice Beam --- Round One In a burst of red light to rival the emergency lighting, opaltiger's formidable Onix appears at his end of the walkway, roaring a challenge across the arena. After a second flash of light fades, surskitty's choice is revealed to be a rare and mystical Dragon-type, a Dratini. He stares determinedly down the walkway towards his foe, and prepares to fight. --- Turn One: Double Team (Monolith) and Iron Tail/Ice Beam (Draco) Monolith the Onix immediately whips his entire length around, moving with such unbelievable speed for such a huge creature. His body grinds harshly on the floor of the warship, leaving great gouges in the metalwork as he tears in all directions like some monstrous rocky streamer. How many Onix are there? It now appears that there are three dancing at the front of the ship. The noise is earsplitting, but Draco the Dratini focuses and summons up Ice energy as commanded, taking aim before releasing it in a shimmering icy beam towards his chosen target. It meets - with one of the illusions, which promptly dissipates, leaving the Ice Beam to pound into the window behind it, freezing a two inch-thick layer of ice onto the surface. Draco glares angrily at the Onix and his one remaining clone, not knowing which is which. Monolith: -7% energy, +1 Double Team clone (one destroyed immediately) Draco: -9% energy --- Turn Two: Dive into crew pit (Monolith) and Iron Tail/Ice Beam (Draco) Practically flowing out of his Double Team, Monolith dives down into the crew pit next to the walkway, his rocky bulk slamming down as he lands. Unfortunately for Draco, his clone dives into the opposite side, and he still has no way of telling which is which. Irritated, he charges another icy attack and lets it loose on the Onix in the pit to his left. To his satisfying surprise, it clips the great rock beast's form, shattering icy-cold energy across the side of his body as he roars in annoyance and pain, revealing himself to be the true Monolith. The remaining clone disappears at the Onix's roar, but Draco's eyes are fixed tauntingly on Monolith. Monolith scowls bitterly in reply. Monolith: -14% HP, -2% energy, -1 Double Team clone (none remaining) Draco: -9% energy --- Turn Three: Dragonbreath (Monolith) and Iron Tail/Ice Beam (Draco) Eager to finally attack, Monolith dives towards his foe, spewing searing blue-green flames from his rocky maw. They whip like molten wind straight into the Dratini, who, though in pain, is unable to recoil as the restricting attack grips him. He is clearly taking punishment, his eyes screwed tight, but the attack subsides, and he returns to glaring at the Onix. Draco gathers up his strength, and quickly launches himself into the air, his tail aglow and almost as tough as Monolith's skin. Concentrating, he strikes the retreating Onix's body with a resounding clang of tough dragonscale on rock. The rock snake lands in the opposite side of the crew pit to which he started, and shakes his head in an attempt to rid himself of the ringing noise vibrating along his tough body. One of his rock sections has received minor cracks from the assault, and he winces at the continued twinge of pain. Monolith: -16% HP, -7% energy Draco: -15% HP, -10% energy --- Round Update Monolith has retreated sullenly to the crew pit on Draco's right to inspect his injury. Meanwhile, the dragon is looking somewhat smug, despite having suffered a painful Dragonbreath. Totals: Monolith: -30% HP, -26% energy Draco: -15% HP, -28% energy --- End-Of-Round Status [Monolith] :onix: (M) Health: 70% Energy: 74% Used: Double Team ~ Dive into crew pit ~ Dragonbreath Status: Eyeing Draco vengefully. Minor cracks in one of his rocky sections. [Draco] :dratini: (M) Health: 85% Energy: 72% Used: Ice Beam ~ Ice Beam ~ Iron Tail Status: Grimly glad to have been able to pay Monolith back for his Dragonbreath attack. --- Notes: - Whoo, fairly high energy and HP damage totals. Well, they were super-effective moves, and not with STAB to ease the steep energy costs... =/ - opal to attack first next round |

y'know, by all regards, Iron Tail should've done just as much damage as Ice Beam, both attacks having equal base powers in ASB. o.o
but anyway. We're at a bit of a disadvantage here, so you'll have to concentrate. First, I want you to use a Sandstorm; then, he'll have no idea where you are and so on. After that, a nice Earthquake to shake things up; the ship will survive, but he'll take damage. Finally, Chill a bit. If he manages to get an attack through the storm, Protect instead. Ice Beam if you can get a clear shot, otherwise, Swift. Jump at the Earthquake.

[Monolith] :onix: (M) Health: 70% Energy: 74% Status: Eyeing Draco vengefully. Minor cracks in one of his rocky sections. Attacks ordered: Sandstorm ~ Earthquake ~ Chill/Protect [Draco] :dratini: (M) Health: 85% Energy: 72% Status: Grimly glad to have been able to pay Monolith back for his Dragonbreath attack. Attacks ordered: Ice Beam/Swift ~ Jump ~ Ice Beam/Swift --- Round Two Monolith the Onix is sulking in the crew pit to the right of Draco, who is still eyeing him in a rather taunting way. Though the Onix may have sustained a little bit of an injury, he's still in good fighting shape. Draco is visibly healthier, but the second round may change that. --- Wasting no time in carrying out his commanded attacks, the angry Onix lets loose an echoing roar, bringing forth a harsh, sand-ridden wind from nowhere. Draco, unprepared, stops grinning and screws his eyes shut against the sudden arid blast, but remembers his orders. Suspecting that aiming an Ice Beam accurately enough in a raging sandstorm in which he can barely open his eyes might be tricky, he opts instead for the reliable Swift attack. He flings a rain of bright golden stars in his foe's direction, and they curve their path to slam sharply into Monolith. But the rock beast is not done with altering the arena's conditions just yet. Oblivious to the sandy winds, he roars savagely once more, enjoying himself. The craft begins to shudder mightily, warning lights flashing crazily, but the Dratini grimaces and launches himself into the air like a coiled spring before the quake can take hold. He has some natural floating ability, but the effort is a bit too much to sustain in such punishing conditions, and he is buffeted off-course to land roughly in the opposite crew pit to Monolith. The quake continues powerfully, and, coupled with the raging winds, throws the dejected Draco around like a rag doll, until it ceases some moments later. It's Monolith's turn to look triumphant. Breathing heavily, the dragon rears up once more. Visibility is still difficult, and he is not in any fit state to resist the sandstorm anyway, so he resorts to a Swift attack once more. Innumerable small stars home in on the Onix, but he grins supremely across at his opponent and raises a transparent force field the second he sees his opponent make a move. They ricochet off it harmlessly, fading into nothing as they bounce away. Swift might never miss, but that doesn't mean that it can't be blocked by the target. The Dratini scowls, thoroughly annoyed. --- End-Of-Round Status [Monolith] :onix: (M) Health: 67% Energy: 51% Used: Sandstorm ~ Earthquake ~ Protect Status: Roaring with triumph, and thoroughly enjoying himself, despite still being the most hurt of the two. [Draco] :dratini: (M) Health: 71% Energy: 58% Used: Swift ~ Jump ~ Swift Status: Dejected, and tired of enduring the harsh conditions. - There is a sandstorm in effect (7 more actions). --- Notes: - Sorry for the wait. ^^;;; - Slightly different style of reffing... opal reckoned it'd look better without all the figures and headings... - I think I goofed about the order of attacks in th first round. o.o Meh, it just worked out like that, plus Onix's speed is higher. The real advantage is gained from the order in which the attacks are posted, anyway, right? =D;;; - surskitty to attack first next round (really!) |

Try to dodge any attacks that are coming your way, but otherwise stick to Ice Beam if you can see well enough or Swift if you can't.

so he's quite a while away in a sandstorm - doubt he'll be able to get off an Ice Beam. Therefore, Chill. You're more than heavy enough to be able to resist the sandstorm.
Then, he might have got out of the pit, so throw him right back in with another Earthquake. =) Finally, I think another Chill is in order, unless he uses Ice Beam - in that case, Protect. Chill~Earthquake~Chill/Protect |

[Monolith] :onix: (M) Health: 67% Energy: 51% Status: Roaring with triumph, and thoroughly enjoying himself, despite still being the most hurt of the two. Attacks ordered: Chill ~ Earthquake ~ Chill/Protect [Draco] :dratini: (M) Health: 71% Energy: 58% Status: Dejected, and tired of enduring the harsh conditions. Attacks ordered: Ice Beam/Swift/Dodge ~ Ice Beam/Swift/Dodge ~ Ice Beam/Swift/Dodge --- Round Three Looking thoroughly pleased with himself, Monolith is still currently sat in one of the crew pits. Draco, feeling thoroughly dejected, resides in the crew pit opposite him, and a sandstorm is still raking across the length of the ship. --- Rearing up wearily against the wind, Draco resorts to an air-slicing Swift attack again, not willing to spend his energy on a more draining attack that is unlikely to even hit. The golden star-shaped projectiles cut through the sandstorm and clang into the Onix with a resounding ring, but he closes his eyes against the pain and does his best to Chill. The echoes of the Swift soon fade away, leaving Monolith in peaceful silence for a moment but for the faint howl of the sandy winds. A little more relaxed, Monolith gives Draco a taunting grin before letting loose another earsplitting roar, much to the small dragon's dismay. Once more, the craft shudders and jerks crazily as a thunderous earthquake grips it. Draco remembers his orders, but is confused as to how he can dodge an earthquake. Desperately, he throws himself at the nearest crew chair and tries to coil himself around the base in an attempt to stop himself from being thrown around. However, the violence of the quake makes trying to hold onto something stationary a painful experience, and as the craft returns to a smooth flight path, Draco slumps around the chair's base, bruised and frustrated. Nevertheless, he lifts his head to spew another rain of golden stars at the Onix. They hit home, slam into Monolith and fade, but the Onix is once more relaxing peacefully, the sandstorm little more than a tickling sensation to his enormous rock body. Draco, pressed low to the floor of the crew pit, is affected less by the wind than previously, and remains there thankfully, panting slightly. --- End-Of-Round Status [Monolith] :onix: (M) Health: 61% Energy: 62% Used: Chill ~ Earthquake ~ Chill Status: Calm and satisfied with the round. [Draco] :dratini: (M) Health: 59% Energy: 46% Used: Swift ~ Dodge ~ Swift Status: Slumped around the base of a crew pit chair, and feeling just as dejected as before. - There is a sandstorm in effect (4 more actions). --- Notes: - *Hypnotises.* You will not look at the date... you will not kick me for taking so long to ref... :o - opal to attack first next round |
