You can get a new account, under a different name, if you really want to. Then you can abandon your pets on one account, and readopt them on the other. It's risky, though.
If you have two different browsers, say, IE and Firefox, then you can log onto a different account on each (so I've heard) and do the transfer with less of a risk. I don't know that for sure, though.

I think all you need are two separate windows... hang on, I'll check.
Edit: Nope, not quite as simple as that. However, you can open two windows (or tabs). Create your new account in one, then log off. Hit login again, then enter your username and password, but do not log in all the way (that is, do not press enter). Then log in to your main account on the other window. Disown your pets, then quick flip to your other tab or window and press enter. Logging in will take you to Pet Central, which has link to the pound right on there. It's fairly fast, but complicated.
