Here's yet anoher fun poll. What comic srip do you like to read whether it's the black and white dailies, the colorfull Sunday Funnies, or both. For our Canadian, Belgum, British, and Austrailian friends, if you have a comics strip that is popular in you home country, tell us. It may be one that is not printed in any funny page in the U.S. snoopy.gif woodstock.gif hobbes.gif pooky.gif

For my favorite comic strip, it's has been Garfield. But the for the classics, it's Peanuts.

I can't pick one favorite. I miss Calvin and Hobbes. The writer/artist stopped making them in 1995. There are several I really love like Foxtrot, Blondie, Jump Start, Beetle Bailey, Get Fuzzy, For Better or Worse, and Pickles.

I love comics! I usually go with Calvin and Hobbes and Garfield because they're funnier than most, with some witty social commentary thrown in. Scott McCloud's nonfiction comic books about how to draw comics (art class, 'nuff said). It doesn't seem like they'd be funny, but they are. The manner of instruction is presented in such an inventive, thoroughly entertaining way as to make it seem like you're not actually reading a textbook, and as for the humor--well, this guy has a great sense of it. Finally, although some diehard fans out there might clobber me for it...I still crack up over the earliest books of Fushigi Yugi by Yu Watase. Yes, I know, manga is not viewed by fans of the form as "mere comics," but come on, a graphic novel is what it is, no matter what country. I'm not a big fan of anime and manga anymore, but I used to love the stuff when I was in junior high, and Fushigi Yugi stands the test of time. I crack up like no tomorrow reading it sometimes. Only the books, though; the anime had some fun moments but I think it missed Yu Watase's particularly endearing brand of humor from the get-go. Also, I can only go about as far as book 4 or so, because from what I've heard of the series, it gets really depressing and, in my honest opinion, unnecessarily dramatic. What started out as a lighthearted caricature of the "junior-high-girl-gets-thrown-into-magical-world" cliche was ruined when Watase took the story too seriously. In the end, I gave up on it because it was too convoluted. Which pretty much sums up my experience with anime in general, and why I got tired of it after 9th grade. tongue.gif

I am wondering where's Foxtrot?

I love the style and the humor in this.

Calvin and Hobbes for the win also.~ I used to have a books filled with those comic strips but I think my brother took it with him for keeps. I better go look.
