Loved that show, made me laugh until I cried.

TV lesbian trivia: Lois Nettleton who played Jean in this ep also played possibly the very first lesbian role (a medical professional, a psychiatrist! I believe, if memory serves) and a very sympathetic (tho single) one at that, I ever saw on tv in an ep of "Medical Center."

Okay.. so I just need to post in this thread because of my obsession with Golden Girls. Always loved it! Always. And I still watch it every day.. usually. I watch it so much, in fact, I sometimes have dreams about it.. though, the last one was kinda disturbing since it involved me and Blanche. But I wont go further than that on the details. :lmao

This really was one of the best shows ever written. And this particular episode was great. They all were great! How can you not love a show about old ladies who run around calling each other sluts?! LOL

Yeah, neither would I. I heart it! In all it's dorky goodness! XD

One of my friends actually likes to randomly call my voice mail and leave messages consisting of her singing the theme song, and nothing but the theme song, before she just hangs up. Since she knows it my ring tone. Funniest thing ever!

Me: "Oh such and such called me and I missed it!" *listens to voice mail*
Friend: "Thank you for being a friend... traveled down the road and back again.."
Me: :lmao

Another GG fanatic right here! I own all of the episodes on DVD after having owned them all on VHS! I watch my dvds every Saturday night with my mother- this has been our weekly ritual for years now and we both find that it gives us a warm, homey and comforting feeling to watch the ladies not only make us laugh, but show us what real friendship and love is. And yes, this show was simply hilarous and brilliant- the cast, writing, everything gelled together so beautifully and seamlessly. They can't make shows like this ever again but thankfully we can continue enjoying GG in reruns and on DVD till the end of time!

And this episode is indeed hilarious but I can't name one that wasn't. I too love all the Sophia stories and by now, know them as well as all of Rose's dumb stories by heart. In fact, I know the dialogue to all the episodes given how many times I've seen each one. Great show, a timeless classic that will never be duplicated. So sorry that part of the family is gone now, but again they will live on forever in our hearts and on our tv screens. :smitten :smitten

Thank you for being a friend to all of us ladies and providing me and my mom with years of laughter and entertainment!! You were and will always be the best on TV!!

:clap :clap :clap

The Golden Girls. It's a bit before my time but... i love it all the same.

I saw a news clip on youtube that covered the death of Estelle Getty (Sophia). It was really sad, apparently she had dimensia. Rue McClanahan (Blanche) said that the last time they spoke to her was over the phone and the conversation was very brief:
Rue: Hey Estelle, how you doing?
Estelle: Yes

How sad is that? :(

So naturally i decided to watch old re runs of the show and cherish the memories of her. I just watched the pilot episode again, and it had me in tears from laughter. The only other show that has that effect on me is friends. Even if i don't find certain things funny, i still laugh when the audience does. It's contagious

Another GG lover here. My three friends and I all watched it in high school and figured out which GG we were. I was Dorothy ;)

Love this ep.

"Frankly, I'd rather live with a lesbian than a cat. Unless a lesbian sheds, that I don't know."

"The lesbian thing, do you keep it under your hat or what?" (We know Doris does)

"You know your friends better than I do. If you think they're the kind of people who can handle it I'd prefer to tell them. (In walks Rose with clown sundaes) It'll be our little secret".

:lmao

Wow. Your comment made me feel old! (and I'm only 26) :lmao

I watched this show as a kid, when it originally aired.. along with Golden Palace. Some of the sex jokes went over my head at the time, but.. I can appreciate them now. LOL

Speaking of the lesbian stuff.. there was that one episode, when Rose took the girls to St. Olaf, for some "Woman of the Year" award (I forget, it's been a while), and Blanche and Dorothy had played a trick on Rose.. and while they were on the train ride to St. Olaf, Dorothy turned to Blanche and said something like, "Now that we're alone, there's something I think we should do." in reference to telling Rose the truth about their little trick.

And Blanche replied, "Dorothy, I like you as a friend, but I think I'll pass."

:lmao

It was delivered so well.

I need to find a clip of this scene.

ETA: found it! around the 4:15 mark
