Now you could have an overview of your favorite artist's educational background.
Article: April 2, 2006
For Japanese idols to manage their career well, it's hard on their studies and many have to forgo further studies. Many Johnny Entertainment artists only finished high school but it appears that the younger generation would work on both and would like to go onto college dispelling the image that artists do not like to study.
The school 日本堀越學園 Horikoshi High School/ Horikoshi Gakuen
is the breeding ground for many idols. They only require interviews and some documents and the attendance requirements are very slack. The idols who could not receive normal high school education would prefer going to this school.
Of all the Johnny's artists, the students included Goro Inagaki (SMAP), Tsuyoshi Kusanagi (SMAP), Tsuyoshi Domoto (Kinki Kids), Yamapi (NEWS), Matsuoka Masahiro (from TOKIO) and Jun Masumoto (Arashi).
Koichi spent four years to graduate from 東海大望星高校畢業 Tokai University's high school branch - (another article said 5 years), Tsubasa (T&T) and KAZUNARI NINOMIYA also used their spare time to attend courses or correspondence courses to complete their high school education. It could be seen that it is not easy to get a high school diploma after all.
But perhaps many fans do not know that the most popular JE stars including Shingo Katori (SMAP), Tackey (T&T), Nagase Tomoya (TOKIO), Morita Go (V6), Ken Miyake (V6), Inohara Yoshihiko (V6) all have only a high school education. Because of their workload, they couldn't cope with both. Recently, Inohara Yoshihiko probably felt the importance of academics; he recently went to apply to a high school and at the moment is studying at a high school in Tokyo. He said that in the past, he put all his time in work. He hopes that he would be able to get a high school diploma before 30 years old.
Relatively, the younger Johnny artists are different. Recently, Sho Sakurai (Arashi) has graduated from the Economics department at Keio University
. It is understood that he has been studying from kindergarten onwards schools that are in the system of Keio University. He had always wanted to study economics.
Yamapi and Koyama Keiichirou of NEWS are now studying at the Meiji University
and working hard at the schoolwork after work.
My notes:Keio University
is the first private university established in Japan in 1868. The university has produced many politicians, business top executives, writers and artists. The IBM chief executive and the present Prime Minister Junichiro Koizumi is also a graduate from there.
Here is more information on the school in English and Chinese and the list of well known students.http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Keio_Universityhttp://zh.wikipedia.org/wiki/%E6%85%B6%E6%...%A4%A7%E5%AD%B8Meiji University
is also a private university founded by three lawyers. It has a long list of artists who graduated from the school. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Meiji_Universityhttp://www.meiji.ac.jp/cip/english/index.html
But noteworthy is that, Chou En Lai
, the First Prime Minister and Foreign Minister of Communist China (1949), came from Meiji University. And well known director Takeshi Kitano studied at Meiji before although he dropped out.
Here is the Horikoshi Gakuen 堀越高校 (Horikoshi High School)
website that many of your beloved JE artists graduated from.http://www.din.or.jp/~hori-ko/index2.html
and if you look at this wikipedia site, you could see the many, many, familiar artists who graduated from this school. Even Sanada Hiroyuki did!!! http://ja.wikipedia.org/wiki/%E5%A0%80%E8%...%AB%98%E6%A0%A1
