So far I have gotten just Malagor the Dark Omen done and painted. Have yet to complete my first box of Gors and then move onto the box of Beastigors I have. Afterwards, I'm hoping to get a brand new Cygor or Ghorgon to work on (I'm so excited for those!).
![]() Sorry for the bad images, I'm using my phone's camera until I can get an actual camera. Took me a little over 9 hours from priming to completion. I did want to go close to the look of the Malagor that is featured in the Beastmen Codex and the finecast model you see on GW's site. I painted Malagor's cloak/drapings? with a green eerie edging to make it look as if Malagor is either casting some ill omen or is always surrounded by the dark energy from the Chaos Gods! -------------------- "Tear down their totems, befoul their colours! It looks as if the primer was very rough, everything seems that way. The colors are good, and they are neatly done. But the roughness hurts the overall look. What metheod did you use for painting it? I am not trying to sound negative, it looks like you have a lot of control over your brush, which is great!

The fleck/speckled look of it is because of the crappy camera. As for the technique I used mainly for this, I drybrushed in passes from color to color to blend his skin and horns and fur. The "rough" primer is probably a look caused by washes and dry brushing. The primer that I used was a Krylon flat black that went on in two coats evenly. I have made the mistake in the past by using primer over primer and it clots up BADLY. I do feel like I should go over the model's skin with another pass of Tallarn flesh to even out the Delvan Mud wash.

I know exactly what you mean about the camera. The pic on the left, is dark, but everything looks smoother in that one. But it seems like your color scheme is very nice. A touch up of flesh over the mud will be good, or apply some watered down mud thinly over the surface to smooth it out.

Ahh trickery of the camera. It's something I want to practice, instead of using my phone...
But nice work on the green highlighting! I like the eerie feeling it gives off. I do look forward to seeing more! |

So I reworked Malagor's skin after a long while. Been working on my first Gor unit painting them in a batch of 10 and going between 40K and Fantasy for painting. Had a bit of a respite too from painting to go see Iron Maiden in Chicago! Anyways, here's Malagor and the Gor unit thus far.
, ,![]() ,![]() Already started up a unit of Bestigors to paint after the Gors are all done being painted and based. ,![]() Hoping to get a Ghorgon next or a Battalion box next to bring out my army. That or buy the Doombull model for a General. -------------------- "Tear down their totems, befoul their colours! Kill the Kings and burn the Priests! If your more for playing games, then I'd say go with the battalion...the toys are always very tempting though!
Nice work on the gors, good details on em, strong shading on the muscles. What's your recipe for them? Chadian flesh tone with a brown shade? |

Another question, is your Mal metal or fine cast?

Go with the battalion. Especially if you want to add bestigors to your army. Buying bestigors outside of battalion usually not cost effective, unless you find a real good deal.

As for how I have been painting the Gors, its been: Bestial Brown base coat with a Tallarn Flesh layer over that leaving the bestial brown show for the cuts of muscle. Time consuming definitely, but great in the end. Do a wash of delvin mud or quick-shade (I used delvin mud). Next is to go over the Tallarn flesh with a very light layer of bleached bone to highlight the upper part of the muscles. I still have to paint leather, cloth, and work on the fur and metal. For Malagor, he's finecast. I didn't really notice until today how bad it is (has bubbles and ridges that don't look smooth at all between muscle transition). Sort of wish I would of gotten the metal version of him. I truly have not had much problems with metal models in the past and this is my first finecast model I own... definitely not considering getting finecast in the future if its always going to be this bad. I do think that a battalion would be best right now seeing how I want to play the game soon and getting a 1000pt army would be the best thing to do right now. -------------------- "Tear down their totems, befoul their colours!
