Love it, very good information and a great progression list. You still ambushing the 20 gor and if so how are they working out for you? Having gone through my escallation league I have found S3 kind of lacking and if they come up from behind they could be out of range of BSB and General and easily fail Primal Fury.

Needs some chariots added! tongue.gif

I like them, other than what you all ready menntioned as to the chaff. Im curious on your escalation style - it seems you scale up the characters more than adding new/more units. I have been trying to scale up my lists with more units and more bodies. I love when opponents look at how many models I plop down and say "wow that's intimidating! Look at all those gors/bestigors! Gotta try to beat them before the game starts haha.

I tend to put banner of eternal flame on my bestigor horde. Do you find your horde suffers at all from lack of flaming attacks or not so much?

At 2000pts I tend to drop the beast lord in favour of more chaff and such like but, having played 2400pts for a while now, the utility of having a general who can't blow himself up with miscasts is not to be underestimated.

I tend to go for a level two beasts at 2400 rather than three shadows. You can feasibly two dice wyssans if you need to (and its in range obviously) and I like the symmetry of having two wyssans and two miasmas. I've taken to aiming to get flock of doom for my second spell on the level two beasts which can be cast at chaff units that are threatening the stoner three. Having recently played against ogres and zapped my level four beasts early on however, the utility of multiple miasmas was really hammered home to me.

Do you find the fencers blades a useful defensive item for the greater bray? I have given them some careful thought but keep going back to the steel claws myself. Love those claws.

Thanks for the comments, guys! I'll address them in turn.

@Hargus: Yep, still ambushing the Gors, except for Watchtower, in which case they occupy the tower. And so far, so good *knocks on wood*. They at the very least get in the way, and have gotten a flank or rear charge every once in a while.

@BBoN: Yeah, I've been beefing up my characters up a tad. I've been steadily adding more deployment drops, though, which has been wonderfully effective. I really only add more bodies at 3,000, because I feel that's the first time I can afford to do so.

@Toe Cutter: Not really missing the fire on the Horde, really. One thing I've taken to doing when facing Regenerators and the like is using Transformation of Kadon and going for the Great Fire Dragon. A flank-charge with that bad boy is quite impressive. tongue.gif

As for the Fencer's Blades, they've been absolutely stellar as a dissuasion mechanism. Most troops need a 5 to hit him, and that combined with his T5 (T6 when Wyssan's is up) makes people not want to attack him.

Really enjoy your lists Rothgar, its has been the template for my builds.
Like toe cutter i prefer the steel claws on the Great Bray but may give the Fencers Blade a run out. Have you ever ran a Doombull in place of the Beastlord for that extra offensive cookie cutter?

I haven't, mostly because of the Leadership issue. I make a lot of tests betweeen Fear, Panic, Primal Fury, and the occasional Break test, and the Ld10 bubble has proven invaluable. I would also have to move my Great Bray-Shaman to my Bestigors in order to have a Ld9 bubble (which is the bare minimum I'd consider stepping out my door with), and I must say that I'm loath to do that - the impact it has made in my Gors' performance has been notable.

Just a quick update regarding the 3,000-point list. I'm making an experiment with it that consists of removing one man from the unit of Bestigors as well as the champion upgrade, removing the Scouting upgrade from my Harpies, the Feedback Scroll from one of my Shamans, and some of the Gifts from my BSB. In exchange for all of that, I've been able to afford a Wargor to lead my secondary unit of Bestigors into battle, which provides some much-needed Ld8 outside the bubble as well as the beef of a guy that swings 3 times in the front rank. What say you of this change?

Why not drop the helm and heavy armor for blackend plate? Gives you the same save plus adds an extra 4+ ward vs flaming to the unit for only a few points more, and if my math is right, you have a couple points left to give him another item like potion of fooldhardiness or something

That's a good proposition, actually, especially for a unit that's going to be running after Hydras and Salamanders for a living. I'll do that. Thanks! smile.gif

Sorry for the slight necro, but I'm building a list extremely similar to your 2500 point army and have a few questions so I figured it would be best to ask for your advice directly.

Do you think it would be worthwhile to drop a wizard level on one of your level 2's in exchange for the Chalice of Dark Rain? There are quite a few gunlines in my meta and I'm torn between better Miasma spam or having a turn of easier marching.

Do you find it best to bunker your stone shaman or to just hide them out of LOS?

What do you find to be your toughest match ups?

Hey Rothgar,

I was just wondering how you deal with gunlines with these lists? I know even the best gunline army is fairly hit or miss but it strikes me it could be a bad match up for you. Have you experienced this? Or is your magic phase generally strong enough that you can spam miasma effectively enough to negate BS? Still, do artillery worry you?

Artillery doesn't worry me much, to be honest with you. A small template doesn't scare 25mm infantry (he catches 9 guys at a time, tops - whoop-de-doo), cannons can only pop 4 guys at a time when you're 10 wide, and screening with Ungor Raiders and Miasma deal with anything that's based on Ballistic Skill. I also really only need to buy 2 turns at the absolute maximum - by T3 I'm in combat thanks to the 10" march, and if they haven't bumped me below half strength by then, I win.

Granted, this list hasn't had to go against a all-shooting, nothing-else list like I know Empire can field yet, but my analysis dictates that between Shadow magic, screeners, and Empire artillery's innate unreliability (especially on things like Volley Guns, which are really the machine that threatens Hordes the most in that army), I should be able to grind out a W. It has, however, faced the very successful (and very popular) multiple-Horde + artillery out the nose Dwarf list, and it won pretty handily.
