In my opinion, armies that sell less are more likely to get new books and models.
Meaning it's not a matter of equilibrium alone, it's a matter of money... ![]() 2 votes each.... This post has been edited by Solegga on Nov 22 2011, 01:00 PM |

Personally, WoC and Skaven.
Both appear in large numbers at tournaments, in my anecdotal experience, and they place fairly well. I therefore, believe there's a great deal of 'copy-catting' and 'internet-doom-lists' that convince people to follow those trends. I would have also voted Dark Elves but I seem to see fewer of those at the tournaments I've visited. |

Actually the opposite is probably true. Updating a more popular army is more likely to generate more sales. At least that's how it tends to work for Space Marines... What actually sells well is probably a complicated thing and I doubt that outside GW anyone can make any kind of good guess. In a sense "sells" is kinda ambiguous. Buying a Skaven army is much more expensive than buying the same points of a Demon army, so right there Skaven will have an edge in sales. I finally decided to go O&G, as they are always popular, good or bad and has LOADS of different miniatures/units and you need a whole bunch. It really is an army people can just keep on buying for. And WOC as that's an army I'd see people buy into just because. It wouldn't surprise me at all if every third WH player has (or had) at least half or a small WOC army tucked away somewhere. I'd have gone DE but I really think people stop collecting them at around the 2500p mark. Same for Skaven I reckon. After you've painted the 200 rats you need for a standard army most people probably don't keep expanding. -------------------- |

I would dearly love to know the genuine answer to this question, based on GW's internal sale figures, rather than the sum of our guesses.
What you can do for some of the armies is use google trends to help with your guessing, eg: http://www.google.co.uk/trends?q=skaven%2C...date=all&sort=0 This compares how often "skaven, beastmen, necrons and "space wolves" were entered as search terms into google. It seems to pretty clearly identify the peak in interest around army book/codex release, and also suggests that our dear gors are way down the pecking order... -------------------- Elucidate, Enumerate, Eviscerate
--- Apparently, I now have a blog for my miniatures. I can't promise any pictures of my Beastmen for a while though. |

Historically Orcs & Goblins are at least one in four locally but I voted Skaven as they are the in vogue army for the last two years.

i voted for high elves and skaven. as they are in the starter set people will for some reason often start with them
but also as skaven are considerd a high powered army with some really amazing models but you also require lots of units to get a good list. (looking at you slaves) and i chose high elves because they are often considered a good newbie army as they are very forgiving and are quite powerful. (i didnt vote for daemons on this basis as you need so little models) but empire are also probberly quite high up there -------------------- |

I voted O&G for the reasons above.
They truly are a fun army with a tonne of flavor, a shed load of models and a "something for everyone" aspect. I then voted Empire. As they also have a shed load of models in their range. I can't help but feel this army has been fleshed out way way too much. They have about 2 armies worth of fluff, from all the lores of magic, engineering schools & even a flipping zoo. I think Empire have too much, and other armies (Bretonnians & Beastmen spring to mind) Could do with a bit of fleshing out, & get those designer's imaginations flowing & gamers buying. I would like to say Skaven, although I don't see many of these around my area. The one I do see buys them on eBay, as its cheaper. Ogres seem to be a dime a dozen lately. -------------------- |

I can only compare with our local WFB community but we got many Skaven, DE, and a few WoC.

My experiences are very local, so I have to say Beastmen (because I'm the most active player in my group by a lot), and Ogres (because that's what my most frequent opponent plays).

One of the least forgiving armies in the game.... Orcs were definatley gws top fantasy seller I read a couple of years ago, and probably still are. Skaven and HE would be up there too due to island of blood if nothing else, and I think I remember empire also being very popular --------------------

What he said - an army with fragile elite infantry isn't exactly the definition of "forgiving".
