I'm planning on doing a number of supportive roleplay tips videos. I want to make a conclusive little series that supports the growing roleplay YouTube community.
Feel free to share your tips and memories of tabletop play here too and perhaps any suggestions for a future episode. I will kick off with a first video I made about roleplaying games. My main experience with them is playing Warhammer Fantasy Roleplay 2nd edition. This one is '1 To 1 Prequel Solo Play - Gaming Talk RPG' http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_nku0h4GhTI...nel_video_title |

A new video for this is up.
This one is 'GM Playing A Character?' http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9P4g7Q-ffMM So guys, submit some replies on this or video responses. What do you think? Have you seen it go wrong before? Got some stories to tell? |

Alrighty, here's the third video in the series. This one is 'Games Master Mistakes?'
I explain some I have encountered recently and then put the question over to you guys, what mistakes have you seen in GMing that we could warn other would be or new GM's about in advance? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hoJWEK6W-M0 |

For the next video I raise some points that came to mind recently and challenge the community to think about truly what is good and bad "RP" and a gaming hobby that has been going for several decades now. I'm taking no prisoners on this one, so strap in tight!

I've watched and enjoyed a few of your videos now, thanks for flagging them up.
I find myself yearning for the days when RPG was my life - or more specifically when there was a ready supply of other people around who had RPG as their lives too - my last AD&D campaign has been on hiatus for 7 years now after being reduced to one active player! -------------------- |

Oh that sucks. Maybe a free advert in your local newspaper or magazine, type thing? Or there may be other ways. Maybe you have a local GW near you where you could find players if it was WHFRP you were thinking of. |

Almost by coincidence, a friend of mine has just started trying to run RPG sessions online via Skype and something called MapTools, using an old fantasy RPG system called "Dragon Warriors".
We've done a couple of evening sessions, I'll let you know some thoughts when we've done a bit more... In the mean time, I liked your Evil character / Good group video. I think the conclusion is basically that you can do it if a - your players are keen on roleplaying b - your Evil character isn't psychotic, sociopathic or similar c - your Evil player is willing to compromise too! d - the GM really wants to let / make it happen. The latter is actually key - often you need a mechanism (e.g. hypnotic aura!) or a plot device to force it to happen - which can be VERY annoying for the Good players. I've seen this attempted a few times with mixed results. I've found it most successful in games without "systemised" alignments, like Call of Cthulhu, and my local gaming reputation was for being "culty" - to the extent where people wouldn't beleive my character was "straight" ! Update on this then. I've been busy making a new series for Warhammer 40k Roleplay - Dark Heresy.
You can see that playlist here - http://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLFCFAE6A101F06E53 I won't be updating new videos for it on here because a lot are released, so make sure you subscribe now so you won't miss anything that happens. Some great videos about this game in particular, yet points made about aspects of the hobby, generally that would related to any RPG system. More Gaming Talks to come as well, while I work out some technical issues in bringing you the series. Enjoy! RJF |
