The upcoming re-launch of Beastmen has really ignited my fire for these goat/cow/things again. I started them about 7 years ago when the last book was launched, and have been my favourite army for WFB since.
Since then, I've fallen out of the hobby, and I've been back in it the past year with a vengeance. So now with the new book coming, I dug out the beast case, and decided to give the Herd another, long overdue, milking. I have about 2k painted at the moment, but I'm planning on painting all the raw models I have, to give me lots of options for future games. Anyway, here's the Herd, freshly milked. I'll start with things that I have painted 7 years ago at their last relaunch I have recently finished 4 models of this unit, but for the most part, it looks as it did before. ![]() A sample herd. I usually run much bigger herds, but I think we all get the point. ![]() I have some of the older chariots, but I painted my herds first, and when I was finished, the newer chariots were available on staff order. I much prefer these. ![]() A WIP that I started many many years ago. I plan to finish it and use it as a Lord on chariot. Or just a fancy chariot. ![]() The Leaders of the herd. I have much love for these. ![]() My shaggoth doesnt really get used much, I just liked the model at the time. I occasionally use it as a giant, but usually, no hooves means, no admittance. ![]() Now for more recent additions. I have a hard time varying chariots without converting. Any ideas using paint alone would be most welcome. Chariot 1 (Wood elf head). ![]() Chariot 2 (Dark elf head). ![]() Chariot 3 (High elf head). ![]() Chariot 4 WIP. Probably my favourite chariot, and will be finished next. Its an orc chariot with the metal tuskgor bits. ![]() The latest edition to my herds. I decided I would spend more time on each beastman this time around, as I don't have 80 or so to paint this time. ![]() A side project, to break up the red & reddy brows with green and greeny browns, so I don't get too bored. ![]() More will be posted as I finish them, enjoy. And c&c is most welcome. This post has been edited by Gojiragor on Nov 23 2009, 12:51 PM -------------------- ![]() -Beastmen, probably the best army in the world. Whoa very nice.
I'm stunned by your picture quality. Those useless Skryer engineers can't even handle a simple camra. I struggle to even download one. This post has been edited by Greyratgor on Nov 23 2009, 01:29 PM -------------------- |

They look fantastic, especially your more recent models. I'm particularly impressed with the rich texture you've given the woodgrain on your chariots!

This is a great looking army.
The first chariot you posted, before Gorthor, has a wonky spear alert, maybe you can fix it? Personally I'd be wary of finishing those WIP chariots before the armybook, because if you do Murphy's Law say that chariots will move to Special or something silly like that, and you'll have done the work in vain. -------------------- Eight Chicky Bits, is that a Chicky Byte?

I'm really liking everything, the only thing I don't like is the Pink looking hair on the herd and other models. I don't know why. Maybe because it just looks pink. I don't quite think It matches the color scheme. If you can get it more brown, red, or orange than it'd look better to me. Other than that, your models look wonderful!

Thanks for the kind words. I believe I'm getting more credit than I deserve, but it is welcome nonetheless, as it's very encouraging.
About the skin tones. I used to use citadel paints in '02. The colours were 50/50 scorched brown, graveyard earth as a basecoat, highlighted up to graveyard earth, then up to kommando khaki. 2 of those paints were brand spanking new at the time. Since then, I've switched to the P3 paint range. Currently, I used a mix of battlefield brown and beast hide as the basecoat. I can't remember the exact mix, so my apologies. But i highlight that custom mix up using hammerfall khaki. But not quite right up to hammerfall khaki (Just close enough). About the wonky spear. That's my case. The boys are let out to run riot every week, and I'm sick of bending it back into place from the case closing. I should really find a fix. And as for chariots becoming special. I guess I'm gambling that we will be able to have more than 1 per special. Fingers crossed. Oh, and about the pink hair. I liked my old hair colour on the herd much better. I believe I used terracota. That paint was new at the time, but it doesnt exist anymore. Ive colour matched as best I could. And I Highlight it with a bone colour, and glaze it with a dark brown to help it out. It doesn't look as pink in reality, but , it is still kinda pink to be honest. On the flip side, I favour slaanesh marks. So that helps me out alot. Thanks for checking out my army, and I'll update it as soon as I finish stuff. -------------------- ![]() -Beastmen, probably the best army in the world. Those bases are really nice on your dryads, whoever made them must be amazing at everything.
Keep up the good work champ, they all look really well. -------------------- www.battlecryminiatures.com

Oh you!
Yeah, I like the bases, they go with the wood elves pretty well. And I might just put my ungor on them (when?) I need to rebase them. -------------------- ![]() -Beastmen, probably the best army in the world. Best website on the internet. http://godzillahaiku.tumblr.com/ |

Something I've been working on and trying to get finished before christmas.
Its the AoW Minotaur with Great Axe. I loved it before it was even finished, so I had to pick one up. Here's hoping the 2010 minos will at least come near this quality of sculpt. ![]() ![]() ![]() It still needs a day or 2 more of work before I'm happy to release it into the wild. -------------------- ![]() -Beastmen, probably the best army in the world.
