I would like some help nailing down a fun list for an upcoming tourney. I've not been playing much in 8th edition, so any comments would be welcome. Thanks in advance.
----------------------------------- 2250 Pts - Beastmen Roster Total Roster Cost: 2246 Doombull (1#, 320 pts) 1 Doombull, 235 pts 1 Axes of Khorgor, 40 pts 1 Dawnstone, 25 pts 1 Ironcurse Icon, 5 pts 1 Gnarled Hide, 15 pts Great Bray-Shaman (1#, 240 pts) 1 Great Bray-Shaman, 200 pts 1 Chalice of Dark Rain, 40 pts Gorebull (1#, 235 pts) 1 Gorebull (Battle Standard Bearer), 185 pts = (base cost 160 + Battle Standard Bearer 25) 1 Armour of Silvered Steel, 45 pts 1 Luckstone, 5 pts Gorebull (1#, 208 pts) 1 Gorebull, 168 pts = (base cost 160 + Heavy Armour 8) 1 Sword of Battle, 15 pts 1 Stone of Spite, 25 pts Gor Herd (30#, 265 pts) 29 Gor Herd, 247 pts = 29 * 8 (base cost 7 + Shield 1) + Musician Mus 5 + Standard Bearer Std 10 1 Foe-Render, 18 pts = (base cost 17 + Shield 1) Gor Herd (29#, 257 pts) 28 Gor Herd, 239 pts = 28 * 8 (base cost 7 + Shield 1) + Musician Mus 5 + Standard Bearer Std 10 1 Foe-Render, 18 pts = (base cost 17 + Shield 1) Ungor Raiders (10#, 63 pts) 10 Ungor Raiders, 63 pts = 10 * 6 (base cost 6) + Musician Mus 3 Tuskgor Chariot (1#, 80 pts) 1 Tuskgor Chariot, 80 pts Minotaurs (6#, 378 pts) 6 Minotaurs, 378 pts = 6 * 63 (base cost 55 + Great Weapon 8) Razorgor Chariot (1#, 145 pts) 1 Razorgor Chariot, 145 pts Harpies (5#, 55 pts) 5 Harpies, 55 pts = 5 * 11 ------------------------------------------------ Doombull and both Gorbulls front the 6 minos. GBS joins the smaller Gor unit. The Gors have HW + Shield because that's the models I have, and it's a modeling opportunity (Briefly, the army is painted with a Confederate Army theme, the tourney theme is "The Battle of Atlanta", so I'm keeping as many shields as I can to display the Stars & Bars. ) Razor Gor chariot is there in part as another modeling opportunity, I'm proud of the mod job I did. Harpies and Ungors are chaff and redirectors. So Minobus in the center of the line, with the Gors on either side to protect flanks. Ungors and harpies go after warmachines and redirect stuff. The two chariots run along the flanks, either together on one flank for a one-two punch or one on either flank as harrassers. Haven't decided on what Spell lore to go with yet. Wavering between Beasts and Death. Suggestions? I actually really like this list. Couple things I would change:
Break the unit of raiders into 2 units of 5. This will allow you to make more drops and control deployment better. Also- It is pretty well understood around here that additional hand weapons are a much better buy for gors than shields are. With primal fury you want concentration of attacks. But if you only have shield models, then I guess you will have to run them. If you havent finished modeling your gors, model half of them with additional hand weapons and you have a legal unit. You're allowed to have up to 50% of the unit have a variation in weapons. On gors- I would try to re-work your units so that you get the one your shaman is in up to 40-50. You could do this by taking away from one gor unit and adding to the other, or turning the razor cart into a tusk cart and using the spare points to add 8 gors. Nothing really beats adhw gors in horde, especially with beast banner or wildform. Once you've beefed one unit up to 40-50, you can use the other 20 gors in ambush if you want, or trade it in for an ungor tarpit. Minobus looks good. Love the stone of spite on the gorebull. Just be careful your shaman isnt close by when you pop it. You could also ditch the chariots and get single razorgors, which I have had great sucess with in the past. Up to you though really. Thanks for the comments, appreciate it. 2x 5 ungors - I was weighing having multiple drops vs having a unit that might actually manage to hit something it shot at (more shots). Also, thinking 10 ungor would manage to spread out in front of a frenzied mino unit better to help control charges. 5 ungors just feel like I'm throwing the points away somehow. But I'll give it some thought.
Yeah, I got that LOL. And I don't disagree with the thinking. I've had this army since 5th edition, and the minis are the old one-piece Battle Masters minis, so there won't be any modification going on LOL. On friendly games I could get awya with just telling my opponent they were AHW (the weapon in their left hand is a sharpened disk, not a shield at all!) but in a tourney I prefer to go WYSIWYG. Hadn't thought about beefing one unit up to 40 and then ambushing the smaller unit. I have to admit this intrigues me a lot. Don't know why ambushing didn't occur to me - I routinely ambushed two units of Gor+ungor in 7th edition. Thanks. Not ditching my chariots, I like them too much. Plus the only Pumba-gor I have is modelled into a chariot, and it's somewhat of a center piece model. I'm not seriously thinking about WINNING this tourney, I'm just looking to have fun so am trying something a bit differant from my normal vanilla Bestigor + Gors build. Figure the Minobus will either work really well, or go down spectacularly in flames. Thanks for the comments and advice! For those who might be interested, "The Army of Southern Aggression" got a work-out today at the "Battle of Atlanta" tourney here in Atlanta (where else?). The list did well, but the Generalship was lacking. First game was against Skaven, where I managed to pull draw, but both of us were rather new so only got through 3 turns. If I had had a full 6 rounds I'm confident I would have tabled him - the Mino Bus had just finished chewing it's way through his big unit of Clan Rats escorting the Plague Furnace and was set to hit the Grey Seer with his Screaming Bell (which had been stuck in getting chewed down by combo charges of the Razor Gor chariot, Tuskgor Chariot, and the big horde unit of Gor. I just needed another turn or so to finish killing off the remaining 6 clan rats and go to work on the bell.
Second game was against Daemons, and I got PWNed. One of those games where I just couldn't get anything working. Circling hordes of fast daemons, the bus looked like it was cutting donuts in the parking lot - lots of noise and action, but not actually going anywhere productive. Ended getting T-boned by multiple units which were able to attack the rank-n-file troops, avoiding the characters. Definitely poor generalship on my part, and good generalship on my opponents part. 3rd game was another draw against High Elves. I have a few questions about how he played the "Always Strikes First" rule - it seemed a bit differant than I had run into in previous games, but... The two chariots combo charged his Dragon Princes, chopped them into Kimchee with impact hits. at the end there was only the BSB and a single trooper left (I screwed up and my Razor Gor chariot went after the BSB, thinking to get rid of the standard and War Banner, instead of concentrating on the last trooper and getting the pts for the unit. My duh.) Threw chaff units at Tyrion and one unit of archers, while the Bus went after the Sword Masters. Hit like the wrath of an angry god, but he had gotten a spell off which made them stubborn (with IF no less), so they still saved on their LD 9. Next turn, same results - lots of dead elves, but the remainder stuck around on stubborn 9s. Turn 3 ended with me positioned to flank charge the remaining Dragon Prince with a depleted Gor unit, and the large horde unit surrounded by 2 units of archers, Tyrion and the Great Eagle. Counted up points and I was only 185 pts ahead, so another Draw. In the end, everyone loved my "Confederate Beastmen" theme (or enough to vote for me anyway) and I won "Favorite Army". Came in somewhere around 12th or 13th out of 15 but had a good time driving the bus around. Definitely want to try this list again in the future.
