Title: Fall 2011 - Subject / Theme Voting
Description: Pick and Paint!

Beastlord Karankawa - August 15, 2011 09:13 PM (GMT)
Ok you modeling enthusiasts - the suggestions are gathered and now its time to vote.

Which category would you most like to submit?

Keep in mind that the overall theme is Beastmen. :)

As you can see, several categories can blend in to other categories with some creative thinking!

Please note, the category with the most votes is the winner - there can be only one (even though this should be set up so that you can vote twice)! Also, this is a competion that is more toward motivating someone to work on something new (as opposed to just pulling something off the shelf) - nothing beastmen is not elligible, however.

So far, "core" has the top spot. I'll leave this open for several more days.

Blackspine - August 17, 2011 07:55 PM (GMT)
would this mean "core" units, a sample of them, command?

or is it 'up to interpretation'?

Beastlord Karankawa - August 18, 2011 01:28 AM (GMT)
Up to interpretation - but something easily recognized as core (if that is what the voting turns out to be). :)

mrtn - August 18, 2011 09:06 AM (GMT)
The poll actually says "Core Unit", and that is pretty unambiguous.

Crap, I could have entered my chariot!

Crap, I could have entered my chariot!

This is for a coming comp, so assuming core unit wins you still can.

PS: If you thought the poll said "Spring 2011" I'm sure we all know that BK is infallible so that can't possibly have been the case... ;)

popisdead - August 19, 2011 05:08 PM (GMT)
Haven't we had Core a fair bit? I recall Ambushers, and Gors in the last year at least?

Beastlord Karankawa - August 19, 2011 05:19 PM (GMT)
Can't say that we have had a core competion in times past..

Characters, rares, herdstones, unit fillers, magic users, etc, but nothing comes to mind with a "core" theme. :)

I competed in a competition that was just Gors within the last year wasn't it? Same time as the Spawn contest. Was that really long ago?

And Ambushers forces it to be Core.

Bleh, voting for Core still seems bland. We all have core and will just take pictures of whatever is painted up best.

Beastlord Karankawa - August 22, 2011 09:40 PM (GMT)
It is stressed that the comp is to help motivate folks to work on units - and though it may turn out to be just "core", it very well may have to be some amazing "concepts" to win out. :)

Maelstrom - August 24, 2011 11:05 AM (GMT)
Well if you want to help motivate peeps to get stuff painted 'horde' is a good choice! Nobody actually wants to paint that many stupid Gor but if its for a painting comp I can just chant that to myself while I slave away.

popisdead - August 24, 2011 05:42 PM (GMT)
We are in the after-glow of Storm of Magic being released with a huge gamut of possibilities to work on, terrain, casters, monsters, wacky units, old models from the 80s.

I feel choosing core is throwing away the opportunity for some people to work on things they would not normally.

Just my opinion, not trying to have a flame war!

Maelstrom - August 25, 2011 09:20 AM (GMT)
Bet you all the people who voted for core won't submit an entry... I'd be for an autocratic solution, have the winner of the last one or a benevolent moderator pick.

Beastlord Karankawa - August 25, 2011 01:42 PM (GMT)
Unless someone comes to the defense of core, I will opt to throw that one out and we'll run the second highest. :)

Saintspirit - August 25, 2011 02:05 PM (GMT)
If so, will there be voting between horde unit and mage, or will it be mage automatically (I mean, most horde units are core anyway)?

Chaos, MD - August 25, 2011 02:48 PM (GMT)
Core is the only thing I will be able to enter. Or maybe Mage. I already have an entry for Core, and could do a Single easily, but doing 30+ minis will be impossible for me.

JesterGor - August 25, 2011 07:29 PM (GMT)
Not trying to be a core advocate, but just trying to explain my choice (and I voted for core unit). As someone pointed out, it is much easier to start painting something that will be used on the table, rather than anything that hardly will ever see the roll to wound. Personally, I am slow modeller and even slower when it comes to painting. Core is universal, if there would be a hero-hammer for Beasts, I'd play it, but we are stuck with core, so core I will do. Core is blocks, and to make them not look boring as bricks, it takes (should take) creativity. It might be specials that do the deeds, but it is core that takes the beating, and thus it deserves some fame too. ;)

Now, to the other choices. Horde might be interesting, but as I plan no hordes for my army, I'd not participate in this competition, and so I didn't chose that option. Diorama might be nice, but how many dioramas are actually used in the game? Bindings and Storm? They look too one-dimensional, and I would expect them to be extremely rare, so it would make a competition very narrow. Magic user would be my second choice, the "show Your bray-shaman" tread looks very inspiring. The rest somehow do not appeal to me, but then, I'm still and ungor here... ;)

Beastlord Karankawa - August 26, 2011 02:30 PM (GMT)
We'll stick with "core" then - I suspect that there will be quite a bit of creativity from this simple theme.

:)

Fine then I am entering just the movement tray I use for my Gors then!

Just kidding!!!! I'm not going argue with what ends up being chosen, I was merely voicing my opinion.

gazcal - August 30, 2011 11:46 PM (GMT)
core is a good idea for me as i dont have all that many models and mainly proxy so will get me to paint some more guys up nice :) also when would the comp acctually end?

Beastlord Karankawa - August 31, 2011 02:41 AM (GMT)
Look for the comp to start voting the first week of December. Would like to have submissions by Thanksgiving.

Beastlord Karankawa - August 31, 2011 07:10 PM (GMT)
Calendar wise - last week of November for submissions.

:)

Maelstrom - September 1, 2011 03:23 PM (GMT)
I prefer Sherlocko's deadline.
