Title: 8th ed Herdstone dice
Description: a new book deserves new dice

buddha - November 5, 2009 10:53 AM (GMT)
So I was thinking. Yes, sometimes I do, it takes a lot of concentration and my brain starts hurting after a few seconds, but I took the pain like beast and thought anyway.

If the rumors are to be believed we'll get some new models and a new (and better) army book in February. Some of you got some nice dice last year and quite a few of you did not.

As I said I've done some thinking and I reckon we need some new dice to celebrate the coming of the (8th ed) beasts.

Any thoughts on this?
Are you guys happy with your dice?
Do you want more dice?
Do you want a different design?
Do you want different dice?

Norway might not be the best place to distribute the dice from, but if there are nobody else willing to do the dirty job I might be persuaded to do it again.

Discuss!

Calisto - November 5, 2009 11:49 AM (GMT)
We'll have to see what we get, but I think having different dice for different marks would be cool. Maybe a brown set for undivided. I dunno, I was just a reader when you gave them out last time.

Karlore - November 5, 2009 11:53 AM (GMT)
Honestly I'm one of those people that holds more in his dice than just statistics. and after playing my first few games with my VC designated Black/smoke dice and being uncomfortable with it I believe it would be nice to get some BoC designated dice. Honestly I love the look of those dice that you linked in and would totally go for something along those lines although I would probably be more interested in a Scorched Earth type of Brown.

Anyways that was probably more info than I needed to throw out there so I'll just continue to say some new dice sound great

mrtn - November 5, 2009 12:19 PM (GMT)
This would probably be good to take up in a few months, when the new book is upon us, and we've got a good number of new members. Seems a bit evil to get them done just before the new member surge.

buddha - November 5, 2009 12:41 PM (GMT)
I know, but if we want a new design and some different kinds of dice it will take some time. I just thought we ought to be prepared and have a design and dice ready for when we get invaded by beast wannabies.

Beastlord Karankawa - November 5, 2009 12:53 PM (GMT)
I may order a second batch based on the book - 20 just seems like a small number now for when we get our ubber attack unit. :P

Tauren - November 5, 2009 01:54 PM (GMT)
Yea I would order something like 20 in 2 colors and retire my older dice. Probably Blue and Mint colored.

RedSquid - November 5, 2009 02:33 PM (GMT)
I'd probably get in this time too (if I don't forget again  )
I like the current colours and designs, I'd go for blue probably.
The beast head is nice, but maybe it could be a bit less "round / stylized" to make it look more "realistic". I don't know if it's possible or easy to accomplish, or if there are others who agree, but if not, the current design is fine by me :)

decker_cky - November 5, 2009 03:00 PM (GMT)
I'd go for a slightly different design too, but I would definitely be interested in getting more dice.

Kawazu - November 5, 2009 03:10 PM (GMT)
I think that would be a very nice idea! :)

Maybe it would be handy to have somebody oversea (by our European perspective) to distribute them, otherwise I can't see any problem with Norway.

Anyway, if these thing runs I'm in.

I think that the UK would be the best bet for organising it. The Royal Mail is fast, reliable and fairly cheap it seems. Also the cost of sending the first package would be more economical, as it would be the most expensive part (heaviest package) of the trip.

I only know 2 things for sure, the Finnish post is **** expensive and the Italian mail service cannot be trusted.

sexy beast - November 5, 2009 04:14 PM (GMT)
I think this a great idea. my current dice seem cursed, so some herdstone blessed dice would be very welcome.

Sherlocko - November 5, 2009 04:25 PM (GMT)
I got it last time around and are so pleased I donīt need more. Plus, I just got my Khorne dice on the mail today so if I order more dice I donīt think I can pay the rent next year. :)

v3n - November 5, 2009 04:42 PM (GMT)
If push comes to shove i'll do the posting as i'm UK based

spikle - November 5, 2009 04:43 PM (GMT)
I was just a lurker, when the first batches of dice were going around but id love to have some beastmen specifics, the current design is pretty cool, i'd be up for getting some if this came to fruition.

That would make it all quite a bit cheaper.
While it was not terribly expensive last year, but postage to and from Norway definitively added to the price.

The postage is not the problem as I did collect money (for most of you anyway) before I sent the dice. The hurdle is the initial cost. I can see that not all forum members have the money to front several hundred pounds for other peoples dice.

DarkWingDuck - November 5, 2009 05:32 PM (GMT)
I was a lurker (still mostly am) and my army was under 1,000 pts last time. Now it's closing in on 3,000 pts, so I think it should warrant some cool dice :-). So count me in.

Succotash - November 5, 2009 05:39 PM (GMT)
Are the dice loaded? Because I need loaded dice. Only way I can ever win with beasts against VC. I only need two as long as they roll 6s. If you have another set that only roll 1s i guess i could take those too.

Sadly i think i might actually be serious when i say that too.

I can tell you that the last dice rolled awesome, except when they didn't. ;)

Chaos, MD - November 5, 2009 07:38 PM (GMT)
I'll get some designs together, if someone will throw me some ideas. I'd also like to get some new ones. Maybe with the logo on the "1" side instead of the "6". Most of the local guys get confused since their dice have a symbol in place of the "1".

decker_cky - November 5, 2009 07:43 PM (GMT)
If we went with the 1 side....I'd probably not get them to be honest. Having a beast skull (or something equally bestial) on the 1 side just doesn't send the right message. Plus, the last set had them on 6's, and I want to be able to mix the dice together.

What I would consider (though it would be slightly more expensive) would be to put a symbol on the 1 side and another on the 6 side. Have to make it obvious, but it could be done well.

Tauren - November 5, 2009 07:53 PM (GMT)
I like the design up top on the banner. The horns are more verbose of a design than the slimmed down circular one on the dice already. If you can do a stylized version of the banner ram's skull that would be awesome.

decker_cky - November 5, 2009 07:57 PM (GMT)
The tough thing with that is that the design has to be flat. Look at the silhouette of the banner skull....and IMO it would be a little silly. What I would suggest is something a little more angular for the new design, rather than being all rounded edges.

Tauren - November 5, 2009 08:14 PM (GMT)
Could do a little axe with "Wiff" etched on the 1. Maybe a Hoof? on the 6?

Beasties - November 5, 2009 09:38 PM (GMT)
I really don't need more dice...

but I know I'd buy some

heinzdwarf - November 5, 2009 10:19 PM (GMT)
One of the biggest regrets of my life is that I didn't order any of those sweeeeeet Herdstone dice. :(

So yes, I am definitely interested!

I think the symbol should be on the six. 'Tis much cooler that way.

I like the current symbol, but can understand why those who already own the original dice would want a new symbol. Maybe a herdstone with the chaos star on it? Based off of the rock the plastic Giant is holding?

That's a bad picture, but you get the idea.

Not knowing that most WFB custom dice have the symbol on the one I did put it on the 6. So lots of skulls means lots of hits or wounds or irresistible force. For Ld checks you can use different dice.

mrtn - November 5, 2009 10:43 PM (GMT)
I think it's logical to have the symbol on the six. You want to see your symbol.

Chaos, MD - November 6, 2009 01:33 AM (GMT)
It's up to you. I'm just saying it did cause confusion, with the other players, the first time I used mine.

I like the "Wiff" idea, may bring it up to my group. The Herdstone shape could be cool, but due to the size, it wouldn't look that great. Hoof could be cool as well. But we are limited to what will fit inside a 16mm square, IIRC. So you're looking at 15mm x 15mm, to allow for the edges. My vote would be for either the hoof, or a skull, new one or old one. Either way is fine, and I'll put together the file when/if it's decided.

Arakh Tonguewhip - November 6, 2009 02:20 AM (GMT)
Herdstone dice sound cool, design is fine with me as I did not do anything during the first batch. How much were the dice the last time and how much would you anticipate for the new batch in costs?

I prefer it on the 6s as well. AFAICT most people are nowadays putting them on the 6s I think as "you want to see your logo".
GW's dice never made sense to me, it was always bad to get the Imperial Eagle, Eye of Sauron etc.
I think the reason they first put customs on the 1 side is that it will balance better, & holes opposite of an engraving is probably more balanced then the 1 hole opposite the engraving. Though I doubt custom dice are so perfectly balanced anyway that it would matter.

Here's the thread from last time, it has the cost and stuff I think.

To me the dice are great as they are.
If there were dice with a hoof instead of a 1, I'd probably buy those as well.

RedSquid - November 6, 2009 11:39 AM (GMT)
I think we shouldn't go for 2 sides with pics, cause that would probably be confusing. A skull on the 6 side is fine I think. Only perhaps, like Decker said, a bit more angular design, or narrower. Anyways, I'd probably be in for 20 or more dice this time.

(last time it was about $11 Europe and $14 America for 20 dice)

Agree.

If the price is similar, I'm in for those quantities as well (i.e. 20-30 dices) :)

Tauren - November 6, 2009 01:51 PM (GMT)
Could do a large stylized hoof with a blood drop inside it. Angular skull also works.

Any chance of a rough sketch to illustrate your ideas (I have a crap imagination). Failing that, I think the current ones are just fine, and I'm interested. I need some DE ones too if anyone knows of any out there.

I didn't mean have two symbols on one dice. I meant having some LD dice, were the 1's have the symbol. But I understand that that might make things more expensive. :(

To be honest I don't care much for the hooves design, it reminds me too much of a heart. If I were to make a design (which I won't, cause I'm not good at it) I'd go more for something like this:

But then more stylized.

Perhaps not more expensive, but I think you would get glances if you had special custom dice for LD test, IE a couple of dices when you want to roll high and a few for when you want to roll low. :)
