Title: Gorgon = Medusa?

angrybeaver - October 28, 2009 07:10 PM (GMT)
I've been doing alot of Google searches for Beast Of Chaos rumors, trying to see what's out there. A fair number of rumors indicate a new monster called a Gorgon. Was'nt totally sure what a Gorgon is. Most references indicate that it is a type of Medusa. For those who may not know, ..Medusa was basically depicted as
*a woman, with a serpent body,
*Usually had snakes for hair,
*an archer of some sort,
*had a gaze that could turn people to stone.
There's alot more Mythological info that can be said.

Just for interest sake, I added a poll to look back on to see, If indeed we think this would be a possible new BOC unit.

Cheers~!

Hmm... although I do think that the Gorgon will be a mutated cow-with-wings, I'd like to see it as a traditional Medusa. A nude one, please.

(BTW hi all, you gors and gor moms)

decker_cky - October 28, 2009 07:53 PM (GMT)
Here's the previous Citadel Gorgon model: http://www.citadel-add-range.org.uk/add75.html

My money's on it being closer to that then to a medusa (which IMO really doesn't fit with beasts).

Tauren - October 28, 2009 08:05 PM (GMT)
I too would prefer to see a monstar over a single unit.

Pat man freedom - October 28, 2009 08:21 PM (GMT)
In terms of greek myths, Meduesa is one of the gorgon sisters who Perseus kills. So meduesa is a gorgon but not all gorgons are meduesa.

Relating to our army, meh. I don't like big monsties so I can't say I would buy one.

Monster or Monstar?

All rumor support it being a nasty monster that will hold a similar role to a Shaggoth, Giant, or spawn.

P.S. and Pat Man is right about the fact that Medusa was an individual and Gorgon the race.

decker_cky - October 28, 2009 11:15 PM (GMT)
Pffft....that's not a monstar. These are Monstars.

Plaguebeast - October 28, 2009 11:24 PM (GMT)
I would have preferred a Chimera over a Gorgon, but anyway.... I guess a mutated bull would fit the BoC 'look' a bit better, although I'd personally like something a little weirder - hence my wish for a Chimera.

I hope it's a bull/bull-like creature. A classical greek gorgon doesn't make much sense. A chimera would be great, though.

OverLord - October 29, 2009 12:49 AM (GMT)
I have to sy I will like the Medusa more. Some gaint snake woman like from God of war 2 will be great.

sexy beast - October 29, 2009 07:57 AM (GMT)
It will be a bull....

Zach - October 29, 2009 09:04 AM (GMT)
More of a boar/wolf thing, actually.

I hear it shoots spines.

That actually has potential... We have enough giant bulls IMO.

I honestly hope GW continue with the current AB design trend and bloat the BoC book with special rules and options - give me variety or give me death!... Ok, maybe not the death part...

WOHO!!
Fear my giant hedgehog.

Honestly I don't care what shape the fabled gorgon or whatever kind of big monster we get takes as long as we get a big monster (or two). We are the BEASTS of Chaos, if anyone should have a couple of big monsters it's us.

I don't see why a Greek mythology Gorgon doesn't make sense. Think about it...in the army we already have Satyrs, Centaurs and Minotaurs. It'd be quite fitting with the theme really. And it could have laser eyes! In fact, come to think of it, we should get a forest Hydra too ;D

Or a cyclops, or even better the kraken, but as he's in the battleground he automatically dies as he can't breath oxygen.

I would agree though we do have the greek monster theme which contrast well with the empire, them being about man using his intelligence and us his brute strength.

I still wished we got a giant badass snake like the basilisk, heck make it part giant and the bottom half a snake body with rules for killing blow and we could be CHEESY :) . I think though we need to have the inhuman emphaised with us becuase IMHO we are the children of H.P lovecraft and A furry fetishiser(I just made that word up) and thus should be a parody of humanity rather then goatboys with a weird bull

Cyclops and giant grecian gorgon as you set it up are still doable, modelwise. They would just be Chaos Giants with a special look.

Killing Blow on a Giant? Only if they have regular attacks, their special attacks are can already be as powerful, and funnier.

Pat man freedom - October 29, 2009 04:56 PM (GMT)
I was refering to my lovely basilisk creature who would have KB to fit with stone eyes.

Chaos, MD - October 29, 2009 06:19 PM (GMT)
I just like the evil forest theme, more than anything. If you can fit a lady with snakes for hair into that, fine, if not then give us a bull-like creature. That's all I'm saying, there's no point squeezing in a figure that has nothing to do with the rest of the army.

Basilisk, would be awesome!

Tauren - October 29, 2009 07:28 PM (GMT)
Basilisk would be high on my list as well. Short range gaze attack that can target and kill large low init models like say dragons. Poison attacks and regen, causes terror and would be pretty large.

Plaguebeast - October 29, 2009 11:14 PM (GMT)
How about a Cockatrice? That's another truly weird creature, and would fit our mutated farm animal theme :P

Yeah it would really make people take us seriously. In terms of goofiness it would be second only to Canis(god how I laughed when I saw that model).

In all seriousness, it could work if done correctly. Sure, the chicken jokes would come thick and fast, but at least it is a creature that has grounding in mythology and is representative of the warping influence of Chaos - nowhere near as goofy as Wolf Wolfson riding a giant wolf and wielding a wolf claw!!11!!one!

You know....as soon as the cockatrice was mentioned...I started looking around to see if any were available online. I totally would make a unit of space marine cockatrice riders. :D

mrtn - October 30, 2009 01:58 AM (GMT)
I have a cockatrice (from MegaMinis IIRC) but that's smaller than a 28 mm man, so it wouldn't fit as a mount.

dhoom - October 30, 2009 04:01 PM (GMT)
I was really hoping for more of the Lovecraftian thing in the woods, goat with a thousand young style, but if it comes down to bulls or snake women I will have to vote on the bull women.

Thanks for the image.

Tauren - October 30, 2009 05:21 PM (GMT)
I would like to see a beast in the woods like monstar in addition to the gorgon. I agree with large monsters and beastial stuff.

I would also like to see the beast in the woods similar to the one from brotherhood of the wolf. Big animal, nasty spines, kinda messed up, armor clamped on, sharp bits, etc.

Cockatrice'd represent spawn (especially firewyrms) pretty well.

A chimera with a goat/bull and hound head and a chaosy tail ending in a serpentine maw would fit well into boc.

Tauren - October 30, 2009 06:42 PM (GMT)
I was considering looking at the new space wolf models, they have some potential for conversion with the giant wolves.

I've been wracking my brains to think about what I'd actually like to see in the army and I quite like the idea (along the lines of that quoted above) of a large heavily mutated goat-like creature - stooping/hunched, long crooked horns and claws, (sharp, pointy teeth), hooves ("say NO to toe"), and perhaps some large ragged leathery wings (but folded up on the model, not spread out behind - think Jeepers Creepers and then immediately forget because the film is awful). This would be some monstrous, twisted intelligence from some forbidding pit deep in the core of a rotten forest.

In itself, it could be quite funky, and perhaps those wings allow the occasional extended leap (rather than the gift of elegant flight at all times). Perhaps even a rule to jump over a charging unit and hit them in the rear, rather than the standard charge reactions).

But... I'd also like to see it come with a bunch of beast boy mentallists who have devoted themselves to this primeval patriarch (and maybe suffered a little sympathetic mutation over time).

Goat with a thousand young if you can afford to buy that many of the "cultist" models that go with it... :D

I hope we get a chimera. if we do, i want it to look like this one, from God Of War 3.

...the eyes of a Gorgon are rumoured to turn living creatures to stone.

Yeah I can just see it now:

Shaggoth 1: Damn Immigrants, Those Beasts never give me a job anymore.

Shaggoth 2: Yeah, those damn Gorgons move in to the forests and steal all our jobs with there undercosted labour. I have to come down from the bloody mountains every damn week to fight in there battles. I just can't afford to travel that far with a cut to my pay!

Shaggoth 3: Damn Right! Screw this! I'm never working for those cheap ass Beasts again! I'm going north to where I'm wanted.

Shaggoth 1: Uhh, they don't really want us either....

 :D

A chimaera would fit the overall look of the army well as well :) Im all prom chimaera and have been so for some time! And it would give me an excuse to assamble my old model from the 4th edition when you could actually use them ;)

Beastlord Karankawa - December 3, 2009 01:10 PM (GMT)
Never really understood why there were not more "beasts" in the Beastmen army list (like we had access in 4th edition). Chimera, dragons, manticores, cocatice, swarms, etc...seem beasty to me.
