Title: Board Reorganisation Discussion

decker_cky - June 22, 2009 08:21 PM (GMT)
I have a few thoughts on reorganising some of the forums since we have a lot of forums, several of which are underused.

1.) Warhammer events, other chaos and other armies are all merged into a "General Warhammer" or "Warhammer World" forum.
2.) Merge site comments and announcements. Announcements isn't really that important or useful. I think it'd work nicely having member discussion included there.
3.) Make painting competition a subforum under hobby. We can have discussions about it in the announcement section.
4.) Enemy spotlights are merged into the beasts section. Enemy spotlights could be done more effectively in a thread linking to other threads like the beast tactical threads.

5.) Another thing I'd like some thoughts on are to change how things are separated. Perhaps lump the general forums (site comments and introductions), gaming forums (Beasts of Chaos, Armylists, General Warhammer, Rules and Battle Reports), the Hobby forums (Painting and Modeling, Army Diaries, Background), Other (Other gaming systems, off topic, chaos wastes, roleplaying) and Development (rules development, campaign development and herdstone magazine).

So let's hear some feedback?

Sounds good!

1) I prefer the name "The Warhammer World". "Warhammer World" is a theme park in Nottingham. ;) "General Warhammer" sounds bland.

2) What're member discussions? "Member photos" and such?

3) Yes, no one ever finds it where it is now.

4) Takes some work linking to good threads, but sure, if you guys are up for it.

5) Yeah, that works.

Try posting in "Announcements." Basically, kill announcements and feed the news from site comments.

Yes good, or yes "it needs a visible forum." This is the one I consider the least important. If we do #5, it can still keep that forum lumped in this the hobby forums if a subforum isn't enough.

Well...most of the threads in there are pretty old, and newer discussion is in the main forum anyways (eg. anti-daemon and lizardmen threads).

I like all your ideas on this, Decker.

Seems good.

The only suggestion I have is moving off topic to the top of the 'other' section as its a much busier sub forum.

Also, quick reply in the Announcements and Site Comments section :P

I see this one the other way...if the other gaming forum isn't the top of the other group, it could get lost, while Off Topic doesn't run this risk. I'm willing to be swayed, but I think it makes sense in that order.

I heartily agree with the changes, despite the huge amount of confusion I had when I first logged one :P

mrtn - June 23, 2009 09:11 PM (GMT)
I'm getting sea sick, the forums are moving and changing names as I'm watching.

And no, don't blame the opium. ;)

So THAT'S why I thought things were a bit different. Couldn't wait for April 1 did ya? ;)

Painting diaries are now its own Hobby forum, right? That's a serious improvement. I never really got into looking at the sub-forum.

The other stuff, it sounded good, hasn't bothered me yet. 3 thumbs up!

It bothered me too...but we were getting too many forums so I hid it before.

Something else I'd like is something like warseer has where you can see the subforums listed out, and whether or not the subforums have new posts. If anyone can find an invision guide for doing that (not sure if it's possible), I would add that in (credit to mrtn for the idea).

I may not post much, by I lurk a lot. I very much like the reorganization. It's much less cluttered and I find it more logical.

Grarrzag - June 24, 2009 11:38 PM (GMT)
Call me negative nancy, but I like the old way better. Easier to navigate if you ask me.

Wookiie - June 25, 2009 12:24 PM (GMT)
Same as above, I don't post much, but I lurk almost everyday. I like the new layout.

My only confusion is "The Warhammer World". It seems like we're trying to put to much stuff in that forum.

-Wookiie

P.S. I never knew we had a Rumors sub-forum!

Anything in particular that jumps out, or you just don't like it?

This is actually the same as the "Other Armies" forum used to be, but with a different name. In theory it's a lot, but in practice it isn't that busy.

BTW, it's great to see you and generalaree are still lurking here. You never know what happens when someone stops posting. :)

At first, I too thought this was a beleated April Fools move. (For that gag to live on like it has, reeks of how good it really was - kudos) But as for anything new, I got used to it. Now that it has time to sink in Decker, do you think this set up is ready for the new book, whenever we get it?
