Title: Oh yea Heathen gods!

Who has allowed me to come up with a strong inspiration for a new RPG ;)
YAY!
The year is two-thousand Ten. A major event has taken place, The United States crushed the middle east in its conquest for ever more amounts of oil, and in doing so, ignited a guerilla war that neither world-power was ready for. Three years of bloody fighting later, the Middle East has landed square in the lap of the ever-expanding American empire. They had taken over much of Europe in the previous years, and are now setting their eyes on Asia. The Countries left un dominated formed a hurried alliance Dubbed the “Asian Alliance” With India, China, and Russia aligned together, the Americans knew a tough battle awaited them, what they did not know is that the conquest was already lost. The moment the ink dried on the Asian Alliance, the Russians began a counter-offensive, launching strategic missiles into American controlled territory, blasting the land into rubble. Not only were these missiles deadly, but some contained hidden chemical pay-loads. This had an unforeseen consequence, causing the survivors of these attacks to mutate a unique gene. The Americans dubbed it the ‘Halo’ gene, as it gave the victims a very high resilience to wounds, and often gave soldiers the strength to pull through a battle even with grievous wounds. But this was a blessing in disguise. The American scientists saw this as a new hope for regaining the initiative, and began to produce this ‘Halo’ gene into a combat drug. It was not as long lasting as the real thing, but it provided the kick needed for combat. The combat drug had mutated the vast American public into something far crueler than it’s intended purpose. Each injection of this combat drug permanently damaged part of the subject genetic code, eventually causing irreparable damage, and insanity. This affliction was called ‘God’s Wrath’; this caused the victims to have an insatiable hunger for human flesh, as well as permanently retaining the drugs effects. It was noted that each time an injector re-produced, the damage that the halo caused, was replicated into the youth. The world is crawling with these victims, looking for sustenance. The world has been stricken by a Zombie invasion.
The year is now Two-thousand twenty. The vast majority of humans have been relocated to small island chains that have been deemed ‘un-infected’. The Red Halo organization formed from the surviving governments, giving order where there was chaos. Not only is this organization one to lead, but it also was formed to combat the ‘Halo’ at every turn. Those that are infected are quarantined and kept under surveillance for twenty-four hours, too make sure they are not under immediate danger of mutating. It has been proven that the mutation may take days, months even years to kick in. Even then it is slow, starting off as minor pains and periods of intense rage. But then it gets worse. The victim begins it’s transformation into one of the observed seven ‘genotypes’ of zombies.
More to come tommorrow!

When was the last RP, especially one with this good intro fluff?
Grarrzag - January 3, 2008 03:45 AM (GMT)
Good fluff, kinda like a mix of space-marines, halo and dawn of the dead. (all stuff I like, only if the space marines are chaos that is :P)
I'm in :)

yay! update :D
But when a victim is infected, the chances of being infected again are nil. Realizing this, Red Halo began a volunteer program for the infected looking to help. The infected were placed in their own unit inside Red halo, and the debate opened up as to what to have them do. These people were eager to help the population that helped them realize infection might not be the end. It was soon decided that these men and women would be sent on salvage missions into one of the worlds many vacant cities. But the Red halo did not trust the ‘Hunters’ exclusively, and for a few missions a Red Halo soldier would tag along, just in case one of the hunters did something stupid.
This is the position you’re group is facing. You are all infected or a volunteer who was despised enough to have actually made it into The ‘Zombie Hunters’ unit. Your equipment is stowed on the next chopper out into a green zone, you have a little cash to spend on necessities, but weapons are provided as is basic med-supplies.
Zombie Genotypes
Crawler
You’re basic zombie type. If you’ve seen a Romero zombie movie, then you’ve seen crawlers in action. They are slow, but always appear in numbers of twenty or more, making them a substantial threat. These zombies are in every zone (Red, Yellow, Green) and outnumber all the other genotypes by at least 10-1. Crawlers are usually made from normal common day people.
Berserker
The berserker is a prime example of one of the worst threats the zombie’s pose. They can sprint long distances without tiring, so it is almost inevitable that they will get into close combat. Not only that, but that have the capacity to learn simple things, such as how to open doors and how to use a rock or other smaller object as a bludgeon. Berserker’s either always travel along, or form small (2-5) ‘riot’ groups with other berserkers. A good example of a berserker is the zombies from the 2004 re-make of Dawn of the Dead. (the mall one ;)) Berserkers are usually made from hardened criminals, or psychopaths. A single berserker is enough to have a area flagged yellow, but a group is an immediate red flag.
Basilisk
The basilisk is the most mysterious zombie type. They have the power to paralyze their intended victim with their eyes, to make matters worse they blend in with the crawlers almost perfectly. Those that report having been saved from the basilisk’s stony gaze say they cannot move their body for about ten to fifteen minutes. Thankfully no one has witnessed these creatures in groups. No one is sure what causes a person to change into a basilisk, only that they had to have been dangerous in some way.
Spitter
Spitter’s are among one of the more dangerous types of zombies that Halo has produced. It is able to harm, kill or infect a human without even touching them. They spit an acidic bile from their throats that has been deemed extremely lethal. In an instanced case, a single concealed spitter took down almost a whole team. If it weren’t for the quick thinking of the Red Halo soldier, they would all be dead. A Spitter can ‘vomit’ almost twenty yards. Burns through their body can usually identify spitters, as well as a broken lower jaw, as the bile overflows from their mouth. Spitters have been proven to come from Bulimic, or Anorexic people.
Hunter
Hunters are a peculiar type of zombie; they stalk their prey from hiding, and wait till they are asleep to begin their attack. Thankfully no one has witnessed an ambush by more than one of these horrid creatures, as one of them is enough to take out half a team, as well as a two-man squad of Red Halo soldiers. These have been deemed the second most dangerous, only to spitters. Any area containing just one of these creatures is flagged yellow for its danger level. Much like berserkers, they have the limited ability to learn, but not beyond climbing trees and hiding in tall grass. Also much like berserkers, they can sprint over open terrain, possibly taking an unawares group by surprise.
Howler
Howlers are an odd class of zombie. They act as crawlers normally, with one important difference. They let out a ear shattering howl every few minutes, this in itself isn’t dangerous, if you’re outside of the ten yard radius. But if you are on the wrong side of that boundary when the cry is heard, you will feel intensely nauseous, and have an intense sense of vertigo. If you are within 10 feet, then there is little chance for you. Even if you are using the most advanced type of earplugs, the howl can and WILL burst your eardrums, incapacitating you for the howler to feed on at their leisure. But if you are within 5 feet then it is hopeless, as it has been reported of the howl inducing neck-breaking seizures on the people foolish enough to approach within striking distance. Howlers are mostly created from singers of any sort.
Mercy
This zombie is the strangest of all. The top scientists have finally figured out that Mercy’s main purpose is to turn humans into other zombies. They will follow a human for days, months, and in one case years. They wait for their prey to collapse, then make their move. They move slowly, but purposefully up to their intended victim. When they reach him/her they start to emit a soft ‘cooing’ sound as too comfort the person. One report mentioned that the sound was indeed calming, and made her feel more at ease before her team rescued her via chopper. The Mercy then picks up the person, and inflicts some kind of lethal wound from a bite, be it jugular, or the artery in your thigh. Upon taking the bite, the Mercy cradles the victim and continues it’s cooing sounds until the person expires. It has been seen that the Mercy fends off other zombies from attacking it’s victim, and may follow it for several days before going off to find another. It has been seen that the mercy can create any type of other zombie from this method, so they are intensely dangerous. Mercy’s are formed from people with a good heart (Community workers, Good Samaritans etc etc)
Ok and a question,
Would you prefer simple rules with maximum storytelling (what i had planned to do)
Or something else? Lemme know

Warhound of Chaos - January 3, 2008 11:54 AM (GMT)
Simple rules with good story is just fine :)
Spawn - January 3, 2008 10:46 PM (GMT)
ok that is what i had planned on ;)
Let me know if you think it is getting too complicated! i have been known to go a 'little' overboard on rules ;)
Ok heres the next batch:
Body- your strength and amount of hits you can take. EX. Body that is 2 can take two single point hits. A Normal human has a Body of 5
Mind- your mind is your intelligence, it is also used for determining whether you will become a zombie or not. A normal human has an intelligence of 5
Coolness- How cool you are under fire, or when you are close to zombies. A normal humans coolness is 4
Corruption- How close you are to turning into a zombie
0-Uninfected
0.5- Extremely weak infection- No benefits
1- Very weak infection, you are immune to the pain from glancing blows (punches and kicks)
2- Very weak infection, you are immune to the pain from one-point blows (strong kicks, non-lethal shots from a .22)
3- Weak infection, +1 body, +1 cool, Addiction check
4- Weak infection, Immune to pain from two point blows (non-lethal shots from a nine mil. Pistol, 2x4 hits)
5- Moderate infection, +1 body, -1 mind, Addiction Check
6- Moderate Infection, Immune to the pain from 3 point blows (non-lethal shots from a .38, baseball bats)
7- Moderate infection, +1 body, +1 cool, -2 mind
8- Strong infection, Immune to the pain from 5 point blows (non-lethal shots from a shotgun, shovel)
9- Strong infection, +2 body, -All of mind (bar one point), +2 cool Immune to the pain from six point blows (Non-lethal sniper round, pointblank shotgun blast, On fire), Addiction check
10- Total Infection, Cool to ten (if it is not already there), Mind –1 (bringing it to zero), This character is now a zombie and the player must create a new character to take his/her place. All weapons and equipment not secured to the zombie’s person are dropped.
Point Exchange
You may exchange points from one stat to another to create a unique character. In addition you get three points to spend on your character as well
You may take a point from one stat and shove it into another with no penalty, except for corruption.
Corruption is special in that you can take a level of it to gain more points. You can only do this one time however (No raising it then lowering then raising it again ;)), or you can lower it by spending one of your ‘freebie’ points from character creation. Adding an Infection level adds two more points that you can spend one your character. There is no way to lower this level after it has been raised in creation. Although it has been whispered that the Red Halo brains are working out a way to get a cure working.
norwegian nerd - January 4, 2008 12:17 AM (GMT)
Ok, let's see if I under stand, We start
| CODE |
| Body 5 Mind 5 Coolness 4 Infection 0 |
We then have 3 additional points to spend and we can transfer say from mind to coolness etc. We can also raise our infection for free and gain two more points per level for free? I assume our infection raises over time?
Grarrzag - January 4, 2008 12:27 AM (GMT)
How do I create a character?
Spawn - January 5, 2008 03:56 AM (GMT)
ok, NN got it just about right ;)
Your corruption starts at 0.5. So you get no benefits and no drawbacks, but you are infected. Plus when you are in a human colony you must wear a distincitive armband displaying how infected you are at all times. Plus certain people reserve the right to refuse service to those too infected (hospitals, motels, hotels, taverns, basically anyplace you could spend the night) Not only does this armband display that, but it is linked into a micro-chip implanted into the base of your skull upon discovery of your infection, linking with it to determine when brain activity halts. It will transmit a signal back too the nearest Red Halo barracks with you're current location when that happens. Either for body bagging or for extermination.
And Grarr, you can't create a character yet ;) It's not ready
And i doubt it will be ready for awhile. I will try to keep daily updates too it for as long as i can ;)

It would be cool if when you are too infected, a bomb implanted in your head self-destructs :P

oh god...*just came up with a small fluff piece for the micro-chip ;)*
The red Halo has experimented many ways on identifying whether a person was fully infected or not, some were subtler than others. An example being that if brain activity was ceased then small explosive charges detonated inside the persons skull-case, blowing it clean off. But this was soon discounted as the sensors proved to inaccurate and randomly they would detonate. So it was soon decided to create a small chip that would be wirelessly linked to an armband to be worn at all times. If the chip detected zero brain activity then it would transmit to the armband, whose sewn in antenna would transmit to the nearest Red Halo barracks (with a max range of two kilometers) This is the most recent version of the ‘Trans-informer’ or more commonly known as the TI chip.

Character Creation
Creating characters is simple and fast. Using the rules for exchanging points you can easily meld your characters statistics into your chosen background. From there the only thing that remains is the backgrounds, appearance, name and the like. Such a thing could not be simpler ;)
Please note- If your character is outlandish (ie: Modern day vampire) expect to be have it thrown out, or if it is somewhat outlandish but lends itself well to the setting, then I might allow it. Just expect to be held to a higher level of playing or you get busted down ;)
Common rules!
These are things I expect from you and that you should know
1. I am the sole authority on whether something works or not. No “But it worked on Rambo!” and the like
2. I can and WILL destroy a piece of equipment/weapon that unbalances the game too much. I will not if it is only in your hands for a short time (a single encounter or so) Just be aware
3. I am ALWAYS right about the world. If you try to correct me on something in MY world, expect a beat down ;) (Or in the case that you were right, thanks over the PM and a quick edit ;))
4. You will not kill each other! I don’t care how hostile your character is, if he/she is THAT insane then they should have died long ago. I will accept non-life threatening attacks to stop another player from assaulting an ally or the like.
5. You MUST play by these rules. They are not difficult to abide by. Just play sensibly and don’t be a dumb@$$!
6. This is not a comedy RPG, it is to be taken seriously (except in the OOC, then you can make fun of it for all I care ;))
7. If characters die, they are dead. There is no ‘Revive’ spell in the modern day, or in the future either. Do not expect mercy from the undead, for you shall receive no quarter.
Ok, almost ready now!
PM me those characters while i ask a mod for a pinned OOC or sub forum!
