I'm working two things right now, completing the code for relations between nations and trying to link the onsite forums to the nation login/registration code. The relations code will probably be done first as it only involves me writing new code. The forum link involves the third party forum code and linking sessions and login/logout/registration of nations to that code, including the conversion of existing nations (mostly done, but in need of a variety of testing before I try to port everything over).

The final port of the forum code may require a day or two of down time as I batch all of the emails, password hashes and nations into the forum [pulling hair now]. pirate_emoticon.png

Relations are now saved. I just need to complete the code to use them in trade. They should get cleared when you mave to a new region (that includes all relations that you set with other nations and relations that other nations set with you).

Now I know that that gives you a loophole past the ill effects of an embargo from some other nation (leave the region and then return), however, that should be minimized when I get around to adding the code that resets the region join date (that dictates your seniority in the region). That means that if you play that leave/return game to nullify embargos and such, you also loose your seniority in the region (which impacts you population, since population is based upon region join date rather than GotNation join date). See this Thread for more detail on the population code. It will also affect your seniority as possible region leader if the existing leader times out due to inactivity (code that needs to be implemented, along with some cleanup code for empty regions and 'really' dead nations).

I'll try to get this integrated with the trade code as soon as possible. And, I'm still poking at the forum code on the parallel universe. I'd estimate that the roll out of v1.1 should be around the end of August.

<SIGH>Looks like I've introduced a new challenge for myself. I inadvertantly reset all nations to active, so the v2 update code is now too time intensive to complete, so I'll need to refocus on the performance of that code to try to trim it down to a reasonable time limit before returning to dreams of floating it as v1.1 at the end of this month.</SIGH>

I think I can do it, but we'll have to wait a few days to see if I'm successful in addressing the challenge.

In the mean time I will be working on the forum code to continue trying to link the session code on GN with that of the forums. The registration code seems to be fine. I'll need to seek some guidance on the help forum for the bboard code to see how I might go about porting all of the existing users over to the forum Db.

Anyway things look to be on track for the end of the month (sort of).

Okay, I've resolved the challenge on performance by turning off v2 trade in the default regions, which seems to be a reasonable solution, since I don't really want the serious players to congregate in those regions, I want them in truely active regions.

I've added the code to use the trade relations to the trade allocation code, so MFN and embargos should now be active. I've also resolved the issues I was having with the forum migration code (if anyone wants to beat on it a little, I'd be very happy to fix any bugs before I port things on the real site) [this link will take you there - http://gntest.buccaneersoft.com/].
[Please note that while most of the links are there for GN, the only real areas to test are login, logout, registration, Forum and forgotten passwords.]

Once the forum is ported I'll hookup the nation display to allow others to PM a nation if they are logged in (don't want any spamming if we can help it). Of course then I'll have to think about forum appearance and such.

Very quiet here lately (my Fall semestar has just begun and work is undergoing a big conversion that necessitates lots or training), I should have some time tomorrow to get some work done.

I've added a few more events and started posting random events. Currently, they are just fluff, no real effects, eventaully, they will have some effects and region leaders can toggle them on or off (I might also allow region leaders to actually cause or set certain events, as well as adjust the frequency of events).

I've started porting in the code for the forum switch over. It is all currently commented out, but this will make it a little easier for me to enable it all fairly quickly and minimize the downtime (although porting all of the userdata from table to table will require the largest portion of the work). I'll perform one more update of the forum code itself before I finalize the port. There will probably be a flurry of activity after the fact as I clear up any problems in the port, but we will have a dedicated bboard and PM code to allow nations to talk back and forth more easily. Hopefully, this will help provide more of a sense of community.
