Demeter refrained from answering immediately, taking time to move into a comfortable position. Her wings were folded against her sides, her tail curling around her back leg, and her eyes were positioned towards Moonfang.

Algaesia. Is not a place anyone would want to be. Shredded by the war that rages there, no dragon is safe. That is all they want: a dragon and its Rider on their side. Between the Urgals, Varden, and that nasty king, Chiron and I had to escape. My Rider is for whom I hatch. He has been with me always.

No, impossible. How could you fancy someone you just met? Demeter paused to turn her head around, just to make sure that Chiron was still breathing. A snore escaped from the human's mouth.
Once reassured that he was doing okay, she continued.

If I were to die, Chiron still lives. But if the Rider is killed, with him goes the dragon. It may seem unfair, but what is the purpose of hatching for a Rider, if he is to die? Old age and sickness seem to be fended off. Lives? Chiron has saved many lives, with my help; coming here was a great adventure... Treasure horde? What makes you think I would desire such a thing? Chiron is my treasure. A companion is more than anyone could ask. I don't suppose you would know the feeling.

Moonfang listened anticipatingly through the whole thing, smiling like a small child. He soaked up every word like a sponge, but was thrown off slightly as it came to the part about the treasure...

Why would anyone not want a treasure horde? What could be better then treasure?

The dragon asked bewildered by this. His expression was one that was shocked.

All the IMPORTANT dragons have big treasure hordes!

When it came to the last part, his smile once again dissapeared and he looked to the ground. He started to get angry, but found that he agreed with the fact a little too much to do so.
