The sun had long since set, and the hush of night had long since set over the land. The moon was high in the sky, and the moon was waxing, and almost full. The only sound that disturbed the darkness, was the cooling rushing sound of Moonfang's wings beating gently through the wind around the mountains. Many of the inhabitants of D'lanter were sleeping right now, but now, was when Moonfang came out to play. He left the caves in which he lived, and set out for some kind of adventure or thrill, in the light of the moon. Really, he would be quite happy to have an adventure or thrill any time, as his life this far was rather boring and lonely. His scales glistened purple from the moonlight, making him stand out from the rest of the darkness, and the nearby crimson mountains which stretched out for many miles, as far as the eye could see, creating a sort of jagged effect over the entire horizon. He felt the exhilerating feeling of air rushing over his wings, and the cool night air flowing through his body. He swooped down low, as he though he saw something glistening, but quickly returned, when he realized it was simply the moonlight reflecting on a small cottage window down below. Moonfang loved the night more then anything else. It was just as much a part of him as he was a part of it, and just as much as he enjoyed searching alone, he would love to have a friend nearby to enjoy the experience with him, as, although he would never admit it, he was actually a bit lonely sometimes, because alot of the other dragons saw him as weird, or strange, and wouldn't go near him.

Demeter could not have been mistaken for a large, maroon boulder under the small tree she had used earlier that afternoon to shade the sun from her hide. One of her wings was wrapped around something, forming a sort of cavern with the thin membrane of her right wing. An annoyingly loud snoring sound came from the human protected underneath her wing.
"Unnhh! Doojhuhhn...Must protect lady..." came his muffled cries. Chiron was huddled against Demeter's warm skin, beads of sweat rolling off of his pale skin.
Demeter's eyes were open, staring at the black night sky. Even dragons had some trouble sleeping.
I wonder what it is like to be a star. I wonder if Athena is watching me! May she bless me graciously with her wisdom. May Artemis bless me with many mouthfuls of game, and Chiron with many himself... her prayers to the heavenly beings bored her, and she began drifting to sleep, murmurring things about certain dieties every now and then.
Her eyes were just beginning to close, her breathing to slow... When a flutter of wings reached her ears. She was indeed some distance away from a cabin, but they could not possibly hide anything that has the power to fly. As Demeter stood, she flexed her wings, leaving Chiron to shiver at the abrupt change.
Chiron let out a yawn, stretching over the ground.
Humans! The dragon snorted, flexing her front forelimb, examining the talons. Was that possibly another dragon? I've heard that they live here, but I do not believe that such a number as has graced my ears could even exist. Maybe it is not such an impossible feat for so many to be tolerant...

Moonfang stretched his body out straight, and spiraled as he ascended upwards, closer to the stars. He stopped and basked in the moonlight, creating a beautiful silhouette against the moon, which could be seen clearly through-out all of the crimson mountains. He then let out a triumphant roar, breathing out that destructive black breath of his. It can out in a sort of wispy cloud, that stretched out into long black tendrils, looking like a sentient creature by itself. Eventually it dissipated, and Moonfang swooped lower down to the ground, looking through the nearby valley for anything interesting or unusual. He saw a stange lumpy looking thing, but passed it off as a large maroon boulder... that is, until he saw it moving. (heh! Can't mistake it for a large maroon boulder eh?) He swung his head around again to look at the crimson thing, before landing a safe distance away.
“Was that another dragon? Or something else? Something deadly… Something with LOTS of treasure…” Moonfang spoke aloud. His greed glistened in his eyes as he walked closer to the figure he had seen move earlier.

ooc; No living thing on Earth would see something and say, 'Oh my goodness, Mommy! Look at teh large maroon boulder!'
bic; Demeter's eye narrowed, and she snorted, wispy fumes of dark smoke protruding from her nostrils. Just moments ago, she had been watching this strange male dragon enjoy himself. The moon was not for him to fly in front of. Some creatures actually enjoyed light, instead of the dark shadow of a large dragon.
Not that she could say anything on the matter.
Chiron pounded against her side in anger, unaware of anything else nearby. "Why did you wake me up?! I was having a good dream!" she screeched, climbing into the saddle Demeter wore.
I'm sorry to awaken you. When that nearby dragon rips your throat out, I'll make sure you sleep fitfully.
Chiron murmurred curses under his breath as he huddled up in the saddle, beginning to sleep once more.
Demeter reached out for the other dragon with her mind, her eyes narrowed into dangerous slits, and her tail wrapped around her body. You should do well to stay away, for I have not the time for your antics. Deadly though I may be, I have no treasure! If you will, kindly fly off. I am in no need for company of the draconic kind. One human is quite enough. Anyway, I can only guess what a male would be looking for... Of course, she may have been wrong. But living around even male humans her entire life, she was biased, and believe that they only lived for one thing. But then again, she had only met one other dragon before.
Demeter's obvious dislike showed as she growled, her tail twitching. Come a step closer, and I shall be forced to swipe your head clean off of your neck! Beware of my tail.
Moonfang was completely unaware that anyone had heard him, or even seen him, so when he recieved the telepathic messages, he was startled, and even jumped. However, this dragon's attitude began to anger Moonfang.
So you think you can challenge me? You dont know who I am do you? Well I am the amazing Moonfang, with my powerful black fire! I would watch yourself!
Do to his arrogant and indignant demeanor, he grimaced angrily, but decided that this dragon was not worth his time. He whipped away quickly, but not before roaring loudly at the crimson dragon across from him.
"So much for any adventure THERE!" He spoke out loud, seeming slightly frustrated, and very discouraged. He angrily flew as hard as he could into the wind, which was gradually getting colder and colder. He swerved around trees and boulders until accidently hitting the side of a mountain, and crashing to the ground.

ooc; 0-0;; He hit the side of a mountain... Quit doing what?
bic; Demeter seemed happy as she curled up, even as Moonfang's roar echoed in her ears.
Yes, of course, mighty, amazing, and all those others... Amusement echoed in her words.
Demeter kept an eye open, aware of his obvious anger and resentment. But she couldn't help lettign loose what was unmistakeably laughter as he collided with the side of the mountain.
Are you quite sure you didn't mean to say amusing instead of amazing?
Despite herself, she felt a need to help him. Demeter stretched for a few moments, not in any immediate hurry to help Moonfang. Demeter lifted herself into the air - again taking her time - and began her small journey over to help the arrogant dragon.
Only minutes later, she landed next to him, her eyes blinknig at him, glazed over with amusement. Can't even take your eyes off of me for a minute just to make sure you aren't crashing into a mountain? I'm flattered, but I don't go for the arrogant, conceited type. Who couldn't enjoy a good joke? Demeter prodded him with her talon, gesturing for him to stand.

ooc: I suppose he was blind in his rage XD... I'm having some serious writers block -.- Can't think up any good ideas...
bic: Moonfang awoke with a foggy mind. Everything was sort of spinning, and the moonlight shining into his eyes seemed every so bright. His head was pounding, and every move he made only made it hurt worse. He also felt a sharp, tingling sensation in his left leg. As he started to come-to, he noticed a hazy figure standing over him, and poking him in the side. His mind began to clear, and he saw the same dragon who had thought herself superior to him previously. His mind then drifted to what had happened previously, the angry swerving through the trees, and the sudden collision into the side of the mountain. He blushed, which simply showed up as a pinkish tint on his black scales. He jumped up, to make it seem as though nothing had happened, but it took everything in him not to yelp as he landed. He did wince however, as the pain in his head only got worse, and his ankle nearly gave out from under him.
What are you doing here? I don't need your help!
Even as he spoke, he winced again, while attempting to walk in her direction. He blush grew darker (or lighter?) on his face.
I did that on purpose you know! Just to see if you would come help me...
The way he said that was as if he hadn't even quite convinced himself yet. The more he thought about it, the more worked up he got, until he attempted to fly away. He ended up again crashing however, when he felt a sharp pain in his right shoulder blade and lower right wing. He managed to land on all fours, and then pretended that his fall was intentional.
I was about to go away, but you know what...? I've changed my mind. I've never quite seen a dragon like... YOU before. What's your name and what are you doing here in the crimson mountains?
He attempted to make himself sound big and important when he said that, as if he had owned the land, but he ended up sounding more whiney then anything else.

Demeter sounded completely unimpressed.
Must I mother you, now? Stop trying to go away. You'll only hurt yourself even more.
Chiron's snoring reached her ears.
Pay no attention to the human, but do not make any attempts to harm him. He is my rider. The last words were laced with pride, and carried a serious feeling. Nobody was going to mess with Chiron, and that was apparent. If they attempted to, it should have been apparent that the creature wouldn't live very long after their attempt.
I'm here because of my wanderings, though it isn't any of your business. If you really intended me to come help you, why not crash into something smaller and less painful?... Honestly, you're rather rude. My name is Demeter. Yours is? And pray tell what you mean by 'a dragon like you'.
She gazed at him mercilessly, and actually hapeened to be a few feet smaller than him. He was how many years older? But to her it really didn't matter. An arrogant, egotistical male was just that.
The older physically, but obviously less mature dragon, straightened out, to make himself look taller and better then Demeter, standing before him.
Ha! Mothering me? I'm both older and superior. And what? You want me to STAY now? He said almost mockingly.
My name is Moonfang Nightember, and I have the amazing power of the black fire under my control. You are just a simple lowly dragon, and never have I seen a dragon with either a saddle OR a rider... It sounds so... demeaning... Like your his PET!
Moonfang practically spat the last words out, as if having a rider was a despicable crime, and gave her a 'calm but superior' sort of look.
It WAS, I suppose, an accident to crash into the mountain. HOWEVER, It didn't really hurt at all, so I just played along to get your attention
The dragon sounded more sure of what he was saying this time, even though it was still a lie.

Demeter held back snarls, and kept her appearance one of what her name meant. The grass and pebbles beneath her feet seemed to cling to her talons, and the moon glinted off of her scales, a slight red glow showing.
Pray tell why my attention would mean so much.
"Wise beyond her years" some would say, but both Demeter and Chiron excused it as copying another's words. The truth, simply put.
Demeter's tail twitched at the mention of being a pet. Many jealous creatures had onces deemed her as so, observing her actions toward the human that oft rode upon her back. But Chiron told ehr not to worry, and she didn't. The dragon even managed to stay calm when some directed comments of "Look at how that dragon mothers that poor boy!" and even some directed toward Chiron directly. Of course, they were then both encouraged to dismiss the ridiculous - yet seemingly true - claims.
I am no pet. Our bond is a lasting friendship between two of a different race. Would it be no different if an elf befriended a human? Or if a faerie met a centaur under friendly terms?
A small pause came, in which Demeter checked on Chiron, twisting her head around.
Chiron gazed up at her, his vision blurry. "What? I'm sleeping," came his aggitated voice, his hand reaching up to rub against his eye. And then, he gazed at the moon, eyelids slowly beginning to droop lower...
Do not be so quick to judge, Moonfang. Don't make up your mind whether or not to read a book by what is simply on the outside... If you decide to leave, it is your decision. You are under no pressure from me to stay, and so do not assume such. With that, she turned around, and began walking away. It felt strange to be walking away from one of her own kind, even though she did have a good reason: she could not tolerate arrogance for long.
If this dragon wishes my company, he will follow. She thought to herself, making extra care to build a barrier around her mind. Demeter didn't want anything prying into her mind if she was not going to will it.

Moonfang glared for a moment, before beginning to turn around and walk away. Although he was limping, he still managed to keep that aura of arrogance around him. He stopped however, when he considered the kind of life he was heading back to. This dragon seemed different then anyone he had ever met, and had obviously been to places other then the crimson mountains, which is something that Moonfang could only have dreamed of. He looked up at the beautiful moon above him, which was accentuated by the star's flecked around it, like water splashed on a smooth surface. He thought, while looking at the moon, about how he really didn't have any friends, or anyone to talk to, and even his parents acted strangely around him.

By the time that he had turned around, to face where she had walked off, Demeter had flown off... Only to land right behind him
it's about time. I was beginning to think you really preferred being an arrogant jerk! Oh, I accept your apology. Again, the humor was tinting her words, holding onto them, and yet thinking about letting go.
Chiron now sat up in the saddle, a pronounced frown accompanying his sharp features. "You didn't have to rush off into the air like that," he growled angrily, snatching the covers back up to his body, as if it really bothered her. "Demeter. You are a right prat! Just going off into teh air without giving me any hint or warning! Shame on you!" his voice became joking, and he prodded the back of her neck with a laugh. his voice began to trail off into a stream of murmurs as his conciousness drifted away.
Demeter said nothing until he had finished 'scolding' her. I'm sorry that you can sleep through the destruction of the world as we know it. I should have tried so much harder, little one. But, we have a new friend... She noticed that her words went unheeded.
A hum escaped into the night air as she settled down, her wings and tail properly adjusted. Explain yourself. You still have not told me of why my attentino would seem particularly appealing to you. I am like every other dragon. I deserve some explanation for keeping you company; and unless you wish me to go to sleep, you had best occupy me.
Moonfang at first started to smile, and give a relieved sigh, when he caught himself and pretended that nothing of the sort had even entered his mind. He adjusted his body so that he was comfortable, and directly in front of Demeter.
Well, you see... ever since I was born, I was marked as... well... evil. It is prophecied in dragon legends, that one day, a dragon marked with the 'death fire' would be the one to split up the clan, and start another war between the dragons and humans, ending the currently peaceful reign.
Moonfang shifted uncomfortably, as this was an awfully big burden for him.
I... well... I never wanted to be evil... or a villain... I wan't to be a grand hero, so people will love me... or at least actually like me! I also want lots of treasure, but hey - thats in the dragon blood. People are kind of... scared of me, and I always get what I want to keep me happy. Otherwise they're afraid I'll like... kill them or something. My parents left D'Lanter as soon as I was born, and I was abandoned, to be taken care of by the Queen dragon, along with her husband... I just don't really have any friends... and, well, I'm so used to people being afraid of me, and you actually challenged me a while ago. It kind of confused me I guess
After saying that all, he realized that he had been hardly breathing while saying that, and he exhaled deeply. He turned away for a moment, as if there was something interesting to look at behind him.

Demter nodded, her eyes closed. It appeared as if she was dozing off, even though she truly was wide awake.
Yes, good enough. Lonely, and all that. Understandable. Better life story than mine...
Similar to a horse, the end of her tail flicked back and forth continously. A low humming sound emitted from her, and she seemed to rock side to side slightly, her wings tucked comfortably around her crimson body.

Oh really? Moonfang asked indignantly, now slightly offended,
And what's your big terrible lifes story? And why are you here, in the crimson mountains? And why is it that you have a rider unlike the rest of the dragons in the area?
Moonfang shifted, and stumbled, starting to topple over on his side.

Moonfang gave her a half angry, half embarressed smile, that turned out to be a sort of pouty snarl. He then looked her up and down, and then looked at the human on her back. His whole face perked up, and he stood straight up from his slouching position, and a smile appeared on his face.
"So... Have you ever been on any grand adventures? Have you ever saved any lives, or visited any faraway kingdoms? Do you have your own treasure horde? When did you get this human of yours? How do you like it here in the Crimson Mountains? Is it as exciting as the other places you've been? Where HAVE you been?"
Moonfang took a deep breathe and then blushed that strange dragon-blush again, and realized that he was getting a little too excited. The childlife exuberance dissapeared from his face, and he looked arrogantly at the dragon in front of him. He just couldn't have her think that he liked her... no, that wouldn't do at all.
