Being stuck in English class wasn't a life that was suited for Kalliope Grimm. Learning proper grammar, spelling words, reading novels, it just wasn't her cup of tea. Well, saying that, she never really had a thing for tea, either. Better than sitting at her desk in the back corner of the room, slumped down in her seat, counting the lines in the ceiling, letting the teacher's words go in one ear and right back out the other, she skipped. Her desk would miss a day of being drawn on by her, but it would have to suffer her absence. She would make up for it whenever she decided to go back, if she decided to go back. Instead of having to read Hamlet again or another of Shakespeare's plays, having a little sit in the Ampitheatre seemed like a much better task in her mind. The seats were plushy, soft, and quite comfortable. It was usually empty this time of day anyway.

Walking in through the Ampitheatre's doors, she took a moment to glance around at its interior. She didn't see any heads of familiar or unfamiliar students, much to her disappointment, so she ventured over to the corner. She had always claimed corner seats no matter where she was. She wasn't a fan of paying attention as other people spoke. Bouncing up and down in the seat a few times before she settled, she scrunched up her face trying to decide on something to occupy her time. She wasn't in the mood for sleeping, there wasn't anybody around to talk to, and she had no food to eat. She thought about going around to find a vending machine, but decided that she wasn't in the mood of playing spy so that she wouldn't get caught and either sent to class or to the headmaster/principal's office. She wasn't quite sure which one London Prep had. As before, she hadn't payed any attention to it. She was being lazy, despite the buildup of energy stuck in her system.

"Let's see if I have anything to gnaw on," she said to herself rather loudly as she started to dig through her pockets. Her skirt was rolled up so that it was almost revealing, her socks pushed down so that they were crumpled around her ankles, blazer thrown on the seat in front of her, and the little sleeves that she had rolled up to her shoulders. She wasn't the girl who obeyed the school code of conduct very well, but was the one who would rather be attending a public school where uniforms were frowned upon by anyone and everyone. She longed for her baggy, ripped jeans and too-short shirt that exposed her naval. Her skateboard was thrown under her bed, and she wanted nothing more than to grab it and head for the nearest space of pavement.

Finding nothing in her pockets, she leaned her arms on her knees, staring ahead of her, looking on at nothing but space. Then and there, she could fall asleep with her eyes open if she felt like it. But, like always, the buildup of energy was getting too strong. She needed to do something. She would start talking to herself, if necessary. Taking one more look around, she pushed herself out of the plushy seat and started for the door. There was obviously no one here worth talking to. It was time to head back to her dorm, hopefully where no one would spot her running away from the campus afterwards.

Kallie Grimm
Paper bags and plastic hearts
All our belongings in shopping carts
It's goodbye
But we got one more night
Let's get drunk and ride around
And make peace with an empty town
We can make it right
