MABEL NORMAND -The Female Chaplin- 'The wind blew me into pictures..' ![]() 'Mabel was like..like a French-Irish girl, as gay as a wisp, and she was also Spanish-like and brooding.. Mabel was frisky, as skittery as a waterbug and oh, my Lord, how pretty! She turned any place into an uproar..' MACK SENNETT ![]() ![]() 'Pretty, dashing Mabel calls herself "The Airman's Hoodoo" - her claim is based on the fact that the two men with whom she accepted invitations to 'sky ride' were killed in flights made within a few weeks after they took her up. Mabel had a penchant for dashing men, even if they tumbled terminally from the sky' 'KEYSTONE' by Simon Louvish ____________ . -------------------- ![]() ............'A tramp, a gentleman, a poet, a dreamer, a lonely fellow, always hopeful of romance and adventure.'............ |

![]() Mack Sennett's -TILLIE'S PUNCTURED ROMANCE- (1914) ![]() Charlie Chaplin / Mabel Normand / Marie Dressler ![]() ![]() The very first feature length comedy, and actually pretty funny in places despite the heavy handed direction from Sennett. It's pretty clear that the best scenes are those imprompu moments from Chaplin & Mabel, who along with F. Richard. Jones directed pretty much everything of any worth at Keystone. But when Mack wanted to put the hat on, no one questioned his right to. Most of the copies available are in a tatty old state, but some magic still shines through, and the chemistry between Charlie & Mabel is clear. ______________ ![]() Nice to be onboard. -------------------- ![]() ............'A tramp, a gentleman, a poet, a dreamer, a lonely fellow, always hopeful of romance and adventure.'............ |
