After seeing my now fave episode A Star is Burns (Season 6) I had to post this topic. Has anyone seen it? I swear Moe the bartender is being Charlie when singing and dancing on the bar. It's one with Jay Sherman. The moe song goes like this (i think):
Jay Sherman: Here's Moe the Bartender in Moe Better Booze (emphasizes on Booze) Moe: (looks to camera) Money Gets You One More Round Drink it down, you stupid clown Money Gets you one More Round And your out on your head (falls off the counter) Classic! Then Hans Moleman: HANS MOLEMAN PRODUCTION PRESENTS - MAN GETTING HIT BY FOOTBALL Football hits Hans Moleman: Homer: Baa haaa haaa haaa! The ball, his groin! My favourite quote is the late great Phil Hartman: Sex Education Video: This is fuzzy bunny. He is going through puberty. He has more acne. This funny bunny. They went to the park, the ice cream social and many other socializing places. Fuzzy and Funny got married. Then came the honeymoon. Class: Eww!!!! Ms Krappabell: She's faking it. |

THROBBING, BIOLOGICAL URGES. and, did you notice they were jewish? so funny. my favorite quote from the late great phil hartman is one i think i've already told you, but i'll tell the others: 'hi, i'm troy mcclure. you might remember me from such self-help videos as 'smoke yourself thin' and 'get confident, stupid!' oh, how i miss troy mcclure and lionel hutz, attorney at law. -- "mr. simpson, i watched 'matlock' in a bar last night. the sound was turned down, but i think i got the jist of it." or: "i move for a bad court thingy." i could go on and ON! -------------------- "the heart and the mind - what an enigma." charlie chaplin's calvero, Limelight

It certainly is!
"I don't make movies to win awards. Not now I have two oscars". "Erm, excuse me, will there be any flubber in this film, he glaven." "Erm, no" "Oh for crying out glaven!" "Hey everyone look, it's mel gibson. Everyone rush over there. Mel!!" Ricky Gervais has made an episode and there is loads of publicity. Watch it on sky one, at 6.30 or 7 on Sunday 23 April. Oh my gosh, WHERE to begin?
My family *IS* the Simpsons, I swear. My Dad is so Homer, and there's more similarities between my family, and the Simpsons, than one would like to admit too. Anyways, ironically enough, my Mom and I listened to one of the Simpsons c.d.s (my request, woke up with "Garbage Man" in my head) in the car today, and sang along with it. Funny, funny. Anyways, I don't know if I have a favorite quote (too, too many), but there are some episodes that I really like. Probably gonna sound like a freak if I'm the only one, but has any one else cried during certain Simpsons episodes? I have, and I'll gladly say which ones, if anyone replies to my post, hopefully not thinking I'm too far gone with "Simpson-i-tis". -------------------- "A heart is not judged by how much you love; but by how much you are loved by others."

oh no - i have shed a tear or two over the simpsons. one of my favorite episodes is when homer's mother comes back (the first time). it was really the first serious ending i remember seeing - after homer waves goodbye to her, never knowing if he will see her again, you see him - very small - sitting on the hood of his car in the same place, hours later - staring at the stars. it was very moving; very well done.

OMG!
My Mom *loves* that part of that episode! That's what makes her cry! Yes, that's one of the episodes that "gets me" too. But not that part. No, my "tear-age" parts are --- 1.) When he and Marge are sitting on the bed after he happily tells her how happy he is that his Mom's back, and Marge sits quietly, "....she's nice", and after she talks Homer out of his happy phase he says, "....then why did she leave me?" Oh, TEARS! (lol) He just says it like a pouting child, and leans in Marge for emotional support. 2.) After his Mom comes back home for the last time, and crying, kisses him on the forehead, "I'll miss you." Then we see adult Homer, quietly rubbing his forehead, and saying, "...I thought I dreamed that kiss..." *cue more tears* 3.) And then right before the part where Homer's sitting on the hood of the car, when his Mom goes to get into the van (even though her simply walking over to leave has me sniffling), when WHAM! She hits her head on the car, "D'oh!" Which is so Homer, meaning a part of his Mom has always been with him. And Homer, brings his hand up to his mouth, concerned, but then smiles, teary-eyed. THAT part. If that doesn't make you cry, I don't know what will. -------------------- "A heart is not judged by how much you love; but by how much you are loved by others."

yeah, i meant to mention that part, too. when marge and homer are sitting on the bed and marge is consoling homer - the way you only see them from their backs - you don't see that in animation very often, a touch like that.
another episode that gets me is when selma takes bart and lisa to the amusement park? god, that one is so funny - when lisa starts tripping when she drinks the water on the ride? "I am the lizard queen!" the drunk goggles that bart puts on - the guy who plays "surly" the duff bottle? i really think that is when the simpsons hit their peak. but at the end when selma is depressed because she felt like a failure as a parental figure - she confides in homer. there is homer, wearing a toga of all things, and he takes her hands in his. it just made me choke up a tiny bit! vote quimby! -------------------- "the heart and the mind - what an enigma." charlie chaplin's calvero, Limelight

It's time again for, "Another Thing that makes Grey Cry!" lol. Just kidding.
Anyways, the 2nd episode that "gets me" (you poor people must think I'm just so emotional Lisa wants a pony, so, so much (remember the Christmas episode? Lisa's list is full of "Ponies", and Marge: "Uh, I don't think Santa can fit a pony in his sleigh... She was just so happy, and she even plays her saxophone for 'Princess'. "This songs about a girl and her horse, it's called, 'Wild Fire'." But when she decides to give her up for the sake of her father... There she is in the stable, hugging her beloved pet for one last time before she has to leave. She tells the owner about how to care for the horse, what she eats, and even what music she likes. "I'll never forget you," she says tearfully. -------------------- "A heart is not judged by how much you love; but by how much you are loved by others."

another good one. i love lisa & homer stories - they always get me right in the throat. didn't you crack up when she wakes up and sees the pony's head next to her in bed? like the one called 'lost our lisa' - when she gets lost and homer finds her and they break into the museum so she can see that - whatever it was? then homer knocks it over and they discover it's a music box - something only the two of them will ever know. it was so sweet as they walk off humming the song to what was it...the old spice commercial? something like that. then someone 'released the hounds' and they have to run for their lives. so funny!
yeah - vote quimby! i love that guy! the one where homer buys the gun and the guy holds up the hotel at the end, where quimby is on a tryst - he runs out with his ice in his robe and yells - vote quimby! when homer is looking in all of the motel rooms and opens one and hears "vote quimby!" i'ld love to get a bumper sticker that says that! ![]() i wish my family loved the simpsons like i do. my dad finds them utterly loathesome. it disgusts him that his grown daughter in her thirties 'watches cartoons.' it's just not his humor. i used to get my two year old nephew to watch it with me, but my sister put a stop to it when he got a little older and could understand better. i guess i'll have to wait until he's a teenager before we can watch it together again! -------------------- "the heart and the mind - what an enigma." charlie chaplin's calvero, Limelight

I'd have to say my favorite episodes are Bart on the Road and Summer of 4'2". As for the quotes:
"You tried your best and failed miserably. The lesson is, never try."-Homer "Talkin' out of turn, that's a paddlin'. Lookin' out the window, that's a paddlin'. Starin' at my sandals, that's a paddlin'. Paddlin' the school canoe, oh you better believe that's a paddlin'!"-Old guy teaching Lisa's class "I call the big one bitey."-Homer "Would you like to be called Homer Junior? The kids can call you Hoju!"-Homer "My cat's breath smells like cat food."-Ralph (Bart rides up to his treehouse casino with Robert Goulet on his bike) "This is the casino? I think I better call my agent."-Robert Goulet "Your agent says for you to shut up!"-Nelson "Vera said that?"-Robert Goulet (The bell just rang on the last day at school. Ms. Hoover was reading about Lincoln's assasination. Everyone except Ralph and another kid run out of the room.) "What happened in Ford's Theatre?"-Kid "Was President Lincoln OK?"-Ralph "He was fine."-Ms. Hoover. Kid leaves the room, Ralph stays. "Go home Ralph."-Ms. Hoover And of course the scenes of Milhouse asking Bart about what kind of sprinkler is his favorite and Homer trying to slyly buy illegal fireworks were classic. I just don't feel like typing them out. |

is the 'bart on the road' the one where bart, millhouse, nelson and martin go to knoxville, tennessee? i love that one - especially since i live in tennessee! i love how they made the sunsphere into a wig outlet! and when the boys realize they are out of money when martin tells them he spent the last of it on the al gore doll - "you are hearing me talk." so funny! and that one where lisa so desperately tries to be popular when they go on vacation - so cute. i love the part where marge is unpacking the groceries homer got at the store. whiskey, nudie magazine, maxi pads, cigars - "homer, i don't know what you have planned for tonight, but count me out!"
another favorite quote: "bonjour, you cheese eatin' surrender monkies!" -------------------- "the heart and the mind - what an enigma." charlie chaplin's calvero, Limelight

Yep, those are the episodes alright! Once I was on a trip and we drove through Knoxsville and we saw the sunsphere. I was so excited that I took a picture of it. We didn't get to stop for wigs though, lol. And when Marge says, "I don't know what you have planned for tonight, but count me out!" it cracks me up every time.
Another great scene from Bart on the Road was when they were driving past a family with a bunch of rowdy kids in the backseat and the dad yells, "If you kids don't sit still and behave, I'm going to turn this car around and there'll be no Cape Canaveral for anybody!" So the kids calm down and Nelson reaches over and smacks the dad in the back of the head and the dad yells, "That's it! Back to Winnipeg!" That was such a classic episode. |

I just bought Season 7 yesterday on DvD. Bart on the Road and Summer 4t 2 are on. I saw Bart on the Road about 2 years but can still remember that bit where they drive through a cornfield?
Just watched The Day Violence Died, which has Charlie in a cameo in Bumtown. In A Fish called Selma, they replace Buster Keaton's hall of fame in Hollywood to give Troy McClure one. |

Great, now ever since I started thinking about that episode of The Simpsons last night, I've wanted to go around saying "If you kids can't keep your hands to yourselves I'm gonna turn this car around, and there'll be no Cape Canaveral for anybody! That's it! Back to Winnipeg!" at totally random times.

Oh my gosh, Angie, you picked SO many good ones! I just kept laughing. My Mom and I just spill out one liners from The Simpsons all the time, and when my sister comes over, we do it even more. (Like, 'Bort'. Gotta love that name. Everyone's mentioned such good scenes already. You guys are awesome.
If there's one thing I could do, it would be impressions. Alas, I'm not talented enough. The only character I can do...is Ralph. -------------------- "A heart is not judged by how much you love; but by how much you are loved by others."
