Title: almost done
Lt. Tadbart - March 30, 2011 04:31 PM (GMT)
hey y'all. just finished the final exam of the classroom portion of the Associate of Sciences Diploma in Nursing program. i have eleven 12-hour shifts to work at a local hospital (they placed me in the post open-heart unit), and then i graduate. i finished this semester with a perfect score on the final, and that gives me a very high B for this semester. i'll be graduating Magna Cum Laude, with a GPA of 3.7, member of Phi Theta Kappa national honor society.
you're all welcome to attend my graduation party on the night of May 6, after the graduation ceremony.

The guy I filled in for in my last band was a nurse and went to physician's assistant school in Phoenix for two years. He's back in the valley now splitting time at two different clinics. I guess if he works in a poor rural area for a certain amount of time, he gets a huge chunk of his tuition reimbursed. Which works great for him because he lives here anyway.

Congrats Ken! Wishing you lots of success!!!!! Will this affect your job now (as in a raise or promotion?) Why PA instead of NP? NPs have a better reputation here but I hear PAs are better recognized throughout the country.
Lt. Tadbart - April 2, 2011 02:10 AM (GMT)
thanks, Bobbi! a couple bucks an hour at the one job, 5 bucks an hour at the other. i'll get $3/hour than i'm making now when i go back to the hospital, but then you get to add weekend and night differentials...
gonna let the hospital pay for my B.S. degree, then hit PA school. there are a few reasons why i chose PA over ARNP/DNP. first and foremost, the program is going away from a masters and to a doctorate. if i'm gonna be a doctor, you're gonna call me doctor, not consider me a doctorate in nursing... second, the only thing a nurse practitioner can do that a PA can't, is run a clinic.
i hate indigents and people who suck at the government teat. can't really see me runnin' a clinic out in the middle of nowhere for people who won't work to pay me.
i also just have no desire to be in school til i'm 50. i still have to live life, while in school, and that puts school as "imprtant, but not THE priority" which means my post grad stuff will probably have to be part time. i think i'd miss too much LIFE by going the doctorate route as opposed to the masters.
i can get all the satsfaction and challenge i need from my chosen career field as a PA in an ER.
but for now, i'm just trying to get to lifting a beer with my friends and family on May 6. the rest is dreams and details... B)
