Okidoki, I've decided to slowly elaborate on this and turn this into more of a help topic than a "THIS IS WHAT WE WANT!" topic. Also, just to prove a 1000 words is not as much or as scary as it sounds.
If you have issues with writing and application, the rest might be of interest to you. If you're fine and/or don't need help you don't have to read on. This is purely
optional reading.
This is WIP, so if it doesn't meet your requirements, no worries whatsoever. You're by no means a lost cause or not fit to join at all!
------------------------
The numbers Bexx gave above are mere guidelines, I'll certainly show you it can be done in a great many less words too.
Staff is by no means perfect and we also write crappy profiles sometimes, so don't measure by our profiles per se. There's quite a few profiles I'm not proud of O_o
We don't mind or care about the occasional grammar error or spelling mistake, but if your character is underdeveloped or just below par
AD is a very character driven game, which is why it is so important to us to see a well developed and rounded character. The better you grasp your character the better your RPing will be. It also helps greatly if your character is already integrated in the world, make RPing all a little bit easier!
First off, I always find it very helpful to my profile writing to look over some other applications. Now it can be a bit of a challenge to pick at random an application that reflects the writing style and quality very well, so I figured I'd do the work for you. Isn't that nice of teh SR?!
These are all member profiles, just to show you that we can be equally happy and gleeful about bios/applications by members. Again, staff is not perfect.
Meet the charactersMeet
Dorian Dannesk! Dorian is one of my most favorite characters. That's my personal opinion, I'm sure some people might not like him at all, but I rather love Dorian.
He's a good example of someone who did their research. His history is bulking with stuff that are very specific to AD, it makes me all happy inside to see someone had a good look around to see the options there were and made a character who truly grew up in this world. *cookie for J*
Ariadne Nassau is another goo example of an application I loved to read. Ariadne is unlike Dorian a character who hasn't done a great many things. Nevertheless Lex has made a character that makes perfect sense.
She's completely spoiled rotten and it makes perfect sense in combination with her position, her history and her family.
The latter is even more impressive, considering her family wasn't even joined yet when this application was written, so kudos to everyone involved here for making a believable (if terribly twisted) family!
Now, you might very well think that it means you have to write lots and lots for a character to get accepted. I'm here to prove you wrong. You can have a nice character that's pretty well developed without writing a novel about them.
So meet
Dylan! Dylan too is a character I love rather dearly. I will admit, I cheat slightly putting this one up as I've known Isabel for a long time, but nevertheless, the application deserves loves and attention. Dylan is a character who at first glance seems like nothing interesting at all, and that suits him fine because he's an assassin. If he was very obvious and noticeable, he'd be a shit-lousy assassin! Dylan has an unimpressive background and from that comes a rather average guy, but she's given him a gimmick that works perfectly in this world.
He's no one important, with no impressive powers, and now dramatic history, and he's still an interesting and fun character. Short application, lots of win.
Another profile worth showing off is
Lutz Nutz. This shows a bit more what we look for in a character with awesomesauce power and/or rank of importance.
Lutz is a pirate captain and it shows. His history explains why he's a pirate, how he came to be who he is and it makes sense all around. A clear show of cause and effect in his history and personality. He has a goal and a destination even if it doesn't show too clearly and his whole character is driven by these simple things called 'experience' and 'destination'.
Eventus shows he's put some time and effort into understanding the world and it has resulted in a character that (like Dorian) really grew into this world.
Oh dear lord! You really have to put in that much time to write a character?! Now, I don't know about all these profiles I mentioned, they look like some time was put into them, and I know Eventus took a while to make his pirate, but it doesn't have to take forever.
Meet
Carlyle Skiscton II (why yes, I did have to check four times how to spell that! thank you Britt!)
Carlyle is a character that rivals all the previous ones in their awesomeness and yet, I know for a fact it took about 20 minutes to write this baby up. He, like the others has a well developed personality. His history shows how he developed this way and even though he doesn't appear to be destined for greatness... this kid could go way far still!
OKAY! That's it for today kiddies, more might rock up some other time but now I have to go do some posting for people ! <3
P.s. cookies to everyone who was mentioned or featured here! =D Me love you long time!
P.p.s. Not too scary huh? This is just over 900 words.
