At fourteen, Aras Rhys stands at 5'5" and 143 pounds. Before he sent to the Academy he was underweight and rather scrawny, but now that he's getting all the food he should have been getting, he's growing into a lean, medium build with broad shoulders. Before the Academy he was incapable of gaining any muscles as his body ate the muscle for energy to compensate for his lack of food. Now with the help of his love for physical activity he's actually getting some.
His hair is black and soft and reaches just past his ears. While not thick, it's also not thin. He rarely bothers to comb it out, for even when he does it messes up anyway. His eyes are his most striking feature. Aras' hazel eyes show a much stronger intensity than he portrays in his everyday personality. The hazel in his eyes most often switch between deep dark greens and light brown colors that often appear golden. Though no matter the color, they always have specks of gold within them.
Aras never pays much attention to clothes. When his father was still alive he wore inconspicuous tunics and pants without any special designs. Once living on the streets his clothes were always dirty and were starting a nice collection of rips and holes. Now that he's at the Academy he wears the clothes they gave him without complaint. As long as it's not obnoxiously flashy, he really couldn't care less what he wears.
In his wolf form he keeps his coat nice, unlike his human hair that he leaves to do whatever it pleases. His coat is a mix of black and white, the black being centered mostly near the top of his body, tail and face, though the snout is always white. His gold specked eyes are a brown, golden color, a color not uncommon in his human hazel eyes.
Aras is a charmer and a problem. Already at the age of fourteen he enjoys being favored by the ladies, and will often encourage it. Thought whether or not he really returns their feeling or just likes the challenge of getting someone to fall for him is up to debate. He is not blunt about it, and has a smooth sort of nature about him. For this reason he will not be caught using corny pick up lines or other bluntly silly words.
He's seems completely open, being friendly to most everyone, but when it really gets down to it he's evasive and secretive. The friendliness no doubt raises from his natural need of being with people caused by him being wolven. Aras has a more mature air about him from your average fourteen year old due to his being orphaned and fending for himself for quite a while before joining the Academy. He knows what it's like to never feel really safe, in fact, that's how he always feels. The Academy has yet to teach him to trust completely or capable of willingly relying on others for important things, a side effect of his upbringing.
He likes all sorts of competition, and is good natured about it.. mostly. He loves physical activity, both working out on his own and sports. His favorites are hiking and running. He isn't afraid to stretch or go around the rules if he has a good reason.. which sometimes includes bets and dares.
From an early age Aras was left to fend for himself. He was always told his mother died giving birth to him, though he had reason to doubt the truth in this as he got older. He grew up with his father living partly among humans and partly among packs. His father often was off with friends or was working, so Aras was raised by ever changing strangers and by himself. The ever changing strangers was caused by a little habit he had of causing strange things to happen around him, which usually would have had people excited to have someone with magic but instead it scared them off. Humans, it would seem, weren't used to wolves performing magic accidentally, especially when they weren't aware that their charge was wolven to begin with.
When with his pack he got considerably better treatment and they were happy to have him, though for reasons he never knew they didn't let him in as close as they did others of their kind. This treatment was experience by not only Aras, but given to his father as well. He always suspected it had to do with the mother no one would talk about.
His father died when he was seven. He never got the details of what caused the death other than that it was some sort of murder involving his long deceased mother. The sympathy he received irked him to no end, always leaving him wondering why suddenly everyone was so keen to give him unlimited attention only when something unfortunate happened!
With his father dead he no longer had a place to stay in the city, he couldn't have paid for a place by himself and there was no inheritance left for him. His father lived day by day rather than saving. It was either live with the pack or an orphanage, and he chose the pack. For a year he switched between the responsibility of various people, never really taking to any of them like they would have liked. He never saw them as a parent, nor did he feel the need to confide in them because of the way he grew up.
Eventually he got tired of the isolation from "real" humans and tired of just being everyone's problem. (Which he thought he was more than other people thought he was.) He wanted to return to the city.. and did. He ran away and hid in Algemin Daim. There he took to trying to charm coins and food from people, usually focusing on women as they tended to be more willing. He did his share of begging, sometimes even pretending to be a dog as degrading as it was. He used his wolf form for other things, though, such as stealing. In his human form he'd try to be quick and quiet, in his wolf form he enjoyed sneaking up behind unsuspecting victims and stealing food straight out of their hands and making a run for it.
He didn't always make a spectacle of it, though. He didn't want people to get curious enough about him that they'd think he was a problem worth fixing. One accident, though changed everything.
He was in his wolf form planning to steal some food from a vendor. He got the food, but as he was making his escape something inconvenient happened.. he suddenly realized he was headed straight for someone in fancy white robes. He'd heard of such people, more specifically how powerful they were, and went to change his direction. Instead, to his and the horse's great surprise, he ran straight at an apparently jumpy horse with a woman on top. Spooked, the horse reared trying to defend itself against the wolf who wasn't actually attacking it. The woman fell off and Aras panicked...
...and accidentally set fire to the horse's tail and mane. The terrified creature spurred forward into a screaming crowd of people while Aras was still trying to get his bearings and figure out what was going on.
It all ended rather shortly, however, when the wizard put out the horse and calmed it. Aras didn't think to try to escape, confused as he was, until the wizard was upon him.. but he wasn't angry unlike the peeved woman who was yelling rather unladylike words and phrases. He seemed.. amused.
The wizard ended up bring Aras to dine with him, by then he'd turned back into his human form, and then the choice was put before him. He could apply for scholarships and attend the Wizard Academy of Oz and learn to control his magic, or he could go about trying to do it himself, be officially put into an orphanage, and maybe get into some serious trouble.
Safe to say, Aras chose the Academy, applied and received scholarships, and was shipped off to Oz.
Anything Else Worth Mentioning?
He believes he is as much a wolf as a man, but keeps his wolf form largely hidden for reasons of his own.
Where are they taking the hobbits?
Well that very well depends on who has the hobbits.
