I'm actually kinda hesitant to post this; I don't think that I've really hit the mark. Also, something about this game seems to make me inflict pain and suffering on the characters... maybe I'm just a prick.

Anyway, here's the sequel to ~bad end~.
_______________________________________________
Scene
Hanako ~Good End~

Well, I figured that I may have treated hanako a bit unfairly with my last scene, so I thought I might give her a bit more “generic” moe (as opposed to yandere moe… which, you’ve got to admit, has it’s good points).
Also, I’m kinda stuck here without much internets (unless I pay the outrageous in-house fee at the hotel), so I figured I may as well write something.

Scene background:
Obviously, this is the way I see the end of Hanako’s arc.
However, during your “third act”, Hanako starts having occasional pains in her grafts.
No, I’m not even sure if what I’m proposing is medically possible; I know people that have had skin grafts for decades without ill effects, but I’m going to use a bit of poetic licence and explain it away with wishful internet science.
Maybe she has to have recurring grafts, and the most recent one went wrong, causing the following events. That’ll do.
Also, it’s kinda vital to know that hanako never cries.
And am I the only one that puts Hanako’s voice as that deep, velvety voice of Jazz singers and the like?

The idea came to me about 700km into today’s drive, when I got these crazy cramps on my face, which made me think of Hanako (hey, Sydney-Melbourne is a long drive; there’s lots to think about).
Also, I was looking for an excuse to use “necrosis” (I thought of that word about 300km through the trip)

Since it seems to be the “in” thing, I’m going for the whole 1st person present.

----------------------------------
Setting: A hospital; you have just admitted Hanako; who vomited and then lost consciousness (I’m hesitant to say “fainted”, because I’m thinking of something much more violent than that).
The doctors rush Hanako into emergency, and you are kept away.
After an antagonising wait, hanako’s doctor ushers you out of the waiting room, and into a private office. I suppose the time in the waiting room can be used to build the “I need to know what’s going on” factor… as if you didn’t get that already.

-Scene Proper-
The doctor closes the door, and locks it behind him. He holds onto the handle for a moment, as if afraid to turn around.
[MC] “If it’s bad news, please let me know. Is she going to be OK? Answer me!”
The terror of losing Hanako is making me lose my mind. I’m fighting back anger and tears in the same breath.
[MC] “I’m sorry. I just… I just need to know what’s going on… I can’t take this anymore…”
[Doc] –sighs-
The doctor turns around, and takes a seat, indicating for me to do the same.
[Doc] “I take it you know about Hanako’s grafts?”
[Mc] “A little, she doesn’t like talking about them, and I don’t like forcing her…”
[Doc] “Well, when she first came to us, she was almost totally burnt. There was so little skin for us to graft… We did what we could, grew some new skin for her, but there was just too much damage.”
The doctor is obviously distraught by this… somehow his angst soothes me; before me sits a man who cares for Hanako as much, if not more, than I.
[Doc] “At the time, the grafts seemed to hold, and Hanako was able to return to normal life. But the grafts were fragile, and as she grew, well, the grafts didn’t keep up. So we’ve been performing additional grafts every year or so to compensate.”
I reel back in shock… Does this mean Hanako has had to deal with a new face every year for the majority of her life? Not to mention all that surgery…
My love for her grows deeper as I realise just how strong she has been to deal with such a burden.
[MC] “So, is that what she needs now? Another graft?”
[Doc] “No… no that’s not it at all. Hanako had her last graft a little over {timespan of game} ago. In fact, it seems that’s the problem.”
Anger builds in my gut, sitting like an unsettled meal, dark and heavy. I have a hunch that I’m not going to like what’s coming next.
[MC] “What do you mean the graft is the problem?”
[Doc] “Very little of Hanako’s original skin has grown back, and we’ve used most of what has in her grafts. So, for this last graft, we used skin from another, older graft. It… it didn’t take, and has gone into necrosis.”
My nostrils flare as I resist the urge to punch the doctor. Only the genuine pity in his eyes stops me.
[Doc] “We knew it was a long shot… but… but I…”
For a second, he loses his composure, and chokes.
I realise that this man has been dealing with Hanako for well over a decade, and is taking more than his share of the responsibility for this situation.
Swallowing my pride, I grasp the doctor’s shoulder.
[MC] “So… what do we do?”
The doctor seems to take strength from me, takes a deep breath, and continues.
[Doc] “Well, the latest graft has died, and turned septic. Hanako is in a late stage of sepsis; blood poisoning. We’ve hooked her up to a transfusion and strong antibiotics, but we’ll have to remove the dead graft… and probably most of the skin from that area… Unfortunately, there’s no skin left for a graft… so…”
I swallow hard as the doctor trails off. Hanako has been complaining about pains for months… does this mean…
[MC] “It’s her face, isn’t it?”
The doctor nods slowly in reply.
I close my eyes, and try to think about the impact this would have on her. She has only recently allowed me to see her for what she is. The strain of losing half her face would be too much. Even if she survived this ordeal, there would still be a good chance that she would not survive herself.
[MC] “I… I need to see her.”
The doctor looks up at me, his mouth about to say “That’s not possible” or “I can’t let you”. However, as his gaze meets mine, he stops. It seems that he senses my determination; I will see Hanako now, no questions asked.
[Doc] “She should be stable now, but we have to operate soon. I can’t guarantee that she’ll be conscious or”
[MC] “I need to see her.”
One corner of the doctor’s pursed lips turns up in a half-smile.
[Doc] “… Right this way.”

I am led into the emergency ward. The far bed has the curtain drawn around it; probably to shield Hanako from staring eyes.
Inside the blue cocoon of the curtain, Hanako lays still, a drip in each arm; one full of pale yellow plasma, the other a clear mixture of antibiotic and painkillers. The graft on her face is flushed red and swollen; evidence of the turmoil that is raging underneath that pale skin.
The doctor quickly checks the status of the drips, then motions to the nurse to leave us alone. They part through the curtain. Suddenly, Hanako and I are the only two people in the ward… no… the world.
For a moment, I can do naught but stare at her immobile form; her breathing is so shallow that I can’t even see her chest rise. The flicker of an eyelid draws me to her side. I lift her hand as gently as a rose; mindful of the life-saving drip in her wrist.
[Hanako] “A.. .Azaki?”
Her words are strained, painful, yet still maintaining that rich tone that touched my very core.
[MC] “I’m here… I’ll always be here… “
Hanako flashes me a weak smile; it seems the melodrama isn’t lost on her. Gripping my hand, she manages to prop herself up slightly.
[Hanako] “They’re not telling me anything, only that I’ll be fine… What’s going on? I… I’m scared”
Hanako has never admitted that to me before… she must be genuinely scared for her life; yet she shows no outward sign of it…
Hanako… if I could only have a quarter of your strength, I’d be a much greater man than I am.

{At this point, I’m going to have to break up this touching scene. Here, we have the perfect opportunity to add a choice. Now, this could do a number of things.
1- Nothing, either choice you make here gets you the good end.
2- A bad end, only if certain conditions are met, ie wrong choice + not enough rabu-rabu points = dead hanako.
3- This choice makes the difference between the good “hold hands + walk into sunset” ending, or the happy “hold hands + walk into love hotel/spare room in hospital ward” ending.
The choice will be to tell her that she is about to lose her face, or to lie to her and just say that it will all be OK.
The right answer, of course, is to tell her. She’s a strong girl, she’ll get over it…}

I look into her {eye colour} eyes, and see the combination of fear and determination they contain.
[MC] “It’s your graft… it’s dead. They have to remove it… all of it…”
A quake runs down Hanako’s neck, and her powerful eyes start welling with tears. Yet, she doesn’t break. She lays back down, and gazes at the ceiling.
[Hanako] “Oh well, looks like I get more of my thighs on my face, eh?”
[SFX] Giggle/cry

[MC] “It’s… it’s not that simple.”
[SFX] Sob
Hanako’s grip on my hand tightens, squeezing the blood from my fingers. Her eyes are shut tight, yet tears start to flow from the clenched eyelids. Her lips are pursed, desperately trying to hold back the sobs of a decade’s pain, and her cheeks flush crimson with the effort…
[SFX] another, strained sob
… but to no avail.
The stoic, steadfast Hanako starts to cry. Outside, I hear the doctor approach, and Hanako looks at me, panicked. Instantly, I understand her desperation; to let anyone see her like this would destroy her.
As the doctor pushes through the curtain, I scoop Hanako’s face into my chest, and start to wail.
[SFX] Not-so-manly tears
[Doc] “Er.. I’m.. I’m sorry, I thought I heard something…”
I wipe away a tear.
[MC] “No… I’m the one who’s sorry… getting all emotional when it’s the two of you who are doing all the hard work.”
The doctor smiles and nods.
[Doc] “The world needs more people like you. I’ll give you another five, then we’ve got to get ready for surgery.
The doctor retreats, leaving Hanako and I in our own world once again. I relax my grip a little, but Hanako embraces me, pressing her face even harder into my chest, still trembling slightly.
[Hanako] “Thank you”.
It doesn’t take her long to regain her composure. She gingerly wipes her face on my shirt, and dons a faint smile.
[Hanako] “I’m ready now. You’ll wait for me, right?”
I lean down and kiss her gently
[MC] “Of course, you clown.”
Her smile broadens, however her eyes are still bloodshot. She nods, and I summon the doctor.
It is only a short walk to the operating theatre, and I am not allowed past the door. A nurse leads me to the waiting room, and I follow her in a half-trance.

How long have I been waiting here? Half an hour? Half a year? I try looking at the clock, however my mind is too clouded to decipher its circular code.

The doctor rouses me; I must have dozed off.
[Doc] “Everything went well. She’s still critical, but stable. It will take some time, but Hanako will recover.”
[MC] “And… her face?”
The doctor’s shoulders fall slightly, and the triumphant look to his face falters slightly.
[Doc] “There was little we could do. For now, she will have to wear the mask. Once her skin starts to recover, we’ll be able to perform another graft. Luckily, she will have stopped growing by then, so that will be the last one.”
I breathe a sigh of relief. Finally, Hanako will have a permanent face.
[MC] “Can I see her?”
[Doc] “Sure. You won’t be able to stay long, but I’ll distract the ward nurse and buy you as much time as I can.”
The triumphant doctor has returned… this time with a hint of childish mischief.

The doctor leads me to a private ward of single rooms. True to his word, he approaches the ward nurse, and gets her to turn her back. I use the opportunity to duck inside the privacy of the room, closing the door behind me.
Hanako lies on the bed as if nothing has changed. The plasma drip has disappeared, but the antiseptic remains. Whilst her body hasn’t been affected, a white prosthetic covers the right half of her face.
Slowly, she rolls her head to look at me; her eyes hollow with self pity.
[Hanako] “Well… I always wanted to play the Phantom…”
Typical Hanako; hiding her feelings with jokes. Still, we both know that it’s better than using bad times as an excuse to give up.
[MC] “I thought the Phantom was a baritone… can you even sing that low?”
Hanako smiles; ecstatic that I understand her enough to play along.
[MC] “So, when do they let you out?”
[Hanako] “I think the doc wants to hold me here for a bit, just to make sure this holds…”
Hanako taps her mask.
[Hanako] “… but it shouldn’t be too long.”
[MC] “That’s great. I can’t wait to, er, hang out with you some more...”
The pity dissolves from Hanako’s eyes, replaced with the same mischief I saw earlier in the doctor. Wait… did these two plan this?
[Hanako] “You know, you don’t have to wait…”
I should have known something was up when I was brought here instead of a recovery ward…
Thankfully, Hanako breaks my train of thought as she grabs my arm and pulls me towards her.
[Hanako] “You really are dense, aren’t you?”
She lifts the covers of her bed.
[Hanako] “Well? Care to join me?”
[MC] “Just let me get the door”.

{that’s where I’ll leave it for now. I’m sure that there’s others out there who enjoy associating random adjectives with various body parts that are more suited to “finishing” this one off. I prefer to leave it hanging, or at least to let the CG do the talking.
I’m not quite sure if this has come out as I wanted it; originally I was going to have the MC donate his skin to hanako, but then I realised that was lame beyond comprehension. Also, they’re starting to advertise Phantom’s return tour in Melbourne now, and since I’m working in the theatre district (in the theatre that Phantom will play in actually), you can’t miss the giant posters of white masks everywhere.

I was also going to add more dialogue towards the end, but I figure I’ve dragged it out far enough. That being said, I know this is supposed to be an H-game, however I think that it is worth our while to give the characters a bit more, well, character. There’s a reason Shuffle and Kanon do better than “All nurse fuckfest” (please note, I just made that up. If there is a VN called “All Nurse Fuckfest”, then I apologise for slandering it without researching it properly).

Anyway, that’s my debt to the non-yandere Hanako tribe paid. To be honest, I just can’t help but think of her as evil; hence the ending to this scene (it was going to be touching happysex, but I think MC’s gunna get raeped).}

It's called Kango Shicyauzo and Kango Shicayuzo 2... and IIRC they throw a Nun in there for good measure.

Wow, this may be the best handling of Hanako I've yet read (admittedly, I'm not heavily invested in the character to begin with, but that's just me). I really dig what you've done with her, and while you personally may be a fan of the bad end, I think this good end is quite good indeed.

Plus the idea of Hanako setting up a way for her to raep the MC after her operation is beyond amusing to me.

Heh, and to think that I was tossing up weather or not to scrap this...

TBH though, this is something that I would probably revisit quite a bit. Even when writing it, I decided that I wasn't even going to finish it 3 times (amazing what a bit of boredom will do...).

Sure, it came out nice enough, but it's not something I'll be adding to my "greatest hits".

Plus... suicidal yandere charm... how can you resist?

Ja, shin de!

Thanks for the support; I might try and whip something out tomorrow if I don't die on teh drive back home.

Yeah, I'm not sure if that actaully happens with skin grafts, but you get the point. She's sick, and is going to loase half her face.

In fact, now that I've omitted the "MC donates his arse to make new face" idea (it just seemed too cheesy... the idea, not the arse skin...) it doesn't even need to be the graft. Hell, she can be allergic to alcohol and she loses half her face after the MC tries to get her drunk...

actually, scratch that, I've got an idea for another scene that needs hanako to be able to drink....

you get the idea though.
