She was an unknown.

An unknown creature, an unknown soul, an unknown body. Her fingers were clutched tight around the edge of her cloak, it was an unknown cloak, as she had no clue how it came to be wrapped around her body. The rain was falling steadily, and it protected her, kept her dry, in a safe cacoon. The cloak did little for warmth, however, and she found herself shivering.

It was as if she were a new born. Her eyes darted around; interested but frightened. The location was unknown. Danger could be around any corner, her instincts told her. Even the action of thought was a surprise to her, she didn't realize that she could do something so simple as think.

The newborn girl's left hand was free, grazing the ground and the grass that lay there. She didn't even realize she was doing the action until she stopped. Slowly, testing herself, she pushed some weight onto that hand, and found herself partially propped up. But her right hand was still wrapped in the cloak, and such a position was impossible to maintain for more than a second. She lost her balance, and fell, spayed out onto her back.

From somewhere in her mind came a thought of decency. She wasn't sure why, but she knew to push her knees together and pull her skirts down so they didn't show anything improper. Where did she learn that? She wasn't sure, but now, no longer curled on her side, protected beneath the warm cloak, she felt the cold rain, soaking through her dress. This simply wouldn't do.

The girl tried again, this time returning to the intial position. It was the pose of a child in the womb, her arms wrapped tight around her legs, her body completely covered by the cloak. But now, she discovered, the little warmth that had once surrounded her was gone, and the wet from the rain made her shivering more intense.

Ject listened to the sharp patter of rain as it crashed against her tent. It had been several days since she had left Esto Gaza, heading south to a job in Vulcan. It would still be a few days before reaching the nearest town, so for now she would settle for camping out in the wilderness. Not that it bothered her. She had something over her had, why would it matter what it was made out of. Whether a tent or a thatched roof, it kept the rain out either way.

It had been raining for a good while now. Reluctant to move on in this weather due do her condition she had hoped to wait for the downpour to stop before moving on, however at this point that seemed unlikely. Instead she resigned to performing a bit of maintenance on her limbs, optimizing them to keep out small amounts of water. If she had to move in such whether she sure as shit didn’t want to have to perform a rust removal operation afterwards.

She had spent the day in her tent, eating the occasional travel rations cold and working on her legs. Performing maintenance on her legs was easy, since she could use both hands. It only became tricky, but not undoable, when she had to work one handed on her arm.

It was getting late, however, and Ject had long finished waterproofing her legs. Having put it off long enough she disconnected her arm and swiftly began disassembling it. It would take far longer to do this job then it had to do both of the others, but it had to be done regardless.

After working for several hours, still only half done, an odd sound rose above the splash of rain. Ject’s ears perked up, her keen elven senses focusing on the odd sound, blocking out the rain. It sounded like... someone whimpering. Ject put down her tools and carefully put her arm and it’s parts into the corner of her tent. She lifted the entrance to her tent slightly, and stared into the dark rain.

She was no where near civilization. There wasn’t a inn, cottage, or town within a days walk. Yet clearly there was someone out in the rain. Ject thought for a moment about ignoring it and instead going back to work, but quickly found her curiosity peaked.

She hadn’t finished maintenance on her arm, so for the moment she decided to leave it unattached. She wouldn’t be gone long and she didn’t want it fouled. Instead she wrapped her arm covering tightly around her shoulder to prevent any rain from hitting the connection. It emphasized her armless state, but she didn’t care.

Leaving her tent, Ject strode towards the soft sound. Though not loud she was easily able to pinpoint the direction. It wasn’t long until she found a girl. Even the nearly emotionless Ject was somewhat surprised. It was unusual that anyone would be here, especially someone laying unprotected in the rain.

The girl was curled into the fetal position, getting thoroughly soaked by the rain. Even from were Ject was standing her intense shivering was apparent. Clearly the girl had been out here for quite a while, and might not last much longer.

Yet despite what seemed like a deadly situation (at least for the girl in the clearing) Ject simply walked towards her, not hurried by concern. She was simply curious. Standing over the rain soaked girl, Ject nudged her with the tip of her foot.

“What are you doing?” she asked, her bland voice nearly mixing in the with the sound of the heavily falling rain.

Some time had passed, and the Unknown wasn't sure what to do. Afterall, the concept of walking never entered her mind-- it wasn't something she could remember doing, or ever having seen someone done, and besides, even if she knew how to walk or even what walking was, there was a strange pain in her legs that didn't seem to want to go away, an uncomfortable, aching, tingle.

When she heard the voice, her first reaction was fear, and second was surprise...Surprise that she understood, and that an answer was found easily on the tip of her tounge. She didn't know, even, that she was able to speak, and discovering that was such a shock that her miserable face contorted into something resembling a smile, her lips parted in a tiny "O" shape. The third emotion was yet another foreign feeling, embarassment, afterall, this was a horrible situation to be found it.

She looked up and took in the creature before her. Some part of her mind told her, if only from the voice that she heard, that this was a female, but she registered little else. This was soothing to her, her instincts were reaching out for a mothering care, and female implied maternal. In short, she felt safe.

Still, she couldn't meet the eyes of the strange woman, and instead focused on her chest. Not in a perverted way, breasts were hardly on her mind, nor was she attracted to them, besides the woman was well covered.

"I..." The word fell freely, and again surprise registered, forcing her to take time forming a response, "I...don't know."

She tried once again to push herself up, but such an action would prove impossible for one with no idea what they are doing. So she stayed down, her eyes cast down from the woman's face, this time, at the ground.

Ject watched with dead eyes as the girl flailed helplessly on the ground in her attempts to rise. The elf’s blank expression remaining eerily consistent, appearing unmoved by the strange event she had stumbled into. And yet, despite her appearance, the oddity of the situation was not lost on her. On a night such as this seeing anyone about was unusual, with even travelers such as Ject confined to their tents. Even if someone was to brave the elements they would surely have some purpose for their actions. Yet this girl, shivering and shaking, cold and alone, was simply here. As if she had fallen from the sky, oblivious as the drops of rain themselves.

This unknown girl caused something rare in Ject as well. In the corner of her cold heart she felt a sense of pity, dull but there. Despite the differences Ject was reminded, oddly, of herself. The rain soaked girl gave off a sense of loneliness, a desire for comfort and another person. Ject couldn’t help but remember her time on the streets of Galengreg, filled with similar emotions. Though she briefly considered ignoring it and walking away, Ject, almost reluctantly, crouched down beside the girl.

Her face still blank, her voice still bland, Ject offered her hand to the girl in the rain. “Do you need help?” she asked.

(Kinda short. x_x)
