Wolf Whispers

[Essedar]

Essedar loped lazily through his territory. Since his noble birth and his long hardships throughout life he had known that one day he would grow to be a great leader. His icy eyes scanned the lands that had belonged to so many and now were united uner one leader. Him.

It had been months since the passing of his mother and father, and shortly after he had courted the beautiful Chenoa into joining him in the command of all the lands that surrounded them. Under one set of rules they united each section so that one pack could travel it all, since so many stragglers had wandered without a purpose since the winter before.

And now he himself, had surpassed what his father had ever thought of. Though currently their pack was only he and her he was sure in time it would grow to be greater than his first pack and definitely stronger than the second. Letting out a long and distinct howl, something that was gifted to him from his dear mother, he called to his mate from the forest. In courting they had wandered through the lands and renamed each, this section being named after the rain that so often fell at night.

So it was, as he closed his maw and watched the diamonds fall onto the leaves around him. Finally, he was home. A place that was his own.

[Chenoa]

Hearing her mate's call, Chenoa moved quickly through the forest. A breeze russled the leaves of the tall trees, causing droplets of water to fall, some of which onto her pelt. Her step was light and she didn't notice the diamonds of water clinging to her white fur. Spring had come at last after a very long winter. Chenoa had never seen spring come to these lands before, and it filled her with joy. There was so much beauty and new life. Winter, which had only began to loosen its grip a very few weeks before, was already becoming a distant memory not to be reawakened for another year.
Breaking through the trees, Chenoa saw her mate. Her eyes lit up and she hurried forward. "Essedar." Her voice was soft when she spoke his name and she touched her nose to his maw. "Where have you been? I've been looking for you."

Hearing the how, Lyxa looked up from her resting place among the leaves. The Baird had kept a respectful distance away from her alphess, letter her know that she was there, but not intruding. 'Must be Chenoa's mate, it sounds like him...' she thought silently.

The stocky Baird stood, cleaning her maw of the remains of a hapless gopher and began to trot towards the sound. Winter had finally decided to retreat and it made her happier; the snow always brought back painful memories.

Eventually she could smell the other two wolves and hug back, waiting. 'No need for me to be rude now is there?' Lyxa chuckled quietly.

[Chenoa]

The breeze stired the wind, bringing a familiar scent to Chenoa's nose. Smiling, she turned toward its direction. Her eyes probed the shadows to catch a glimpse of the baird. "Lyxa, come out. I thought we were beyond the point that you hid whenever you came across me and Essedar together." Her happiness at meeting back up with her friend again came into her voice, warming it. She had known the baird was about, but hadn't had a chance to meet up with her as yet. Now she would have a chance to speak with her friend again.

Finally emerging from the shadows, Lyxa gve a small and knowing laugh. "Well, the pack *should* be expecting new pups soon..." she said quietly, smiling. "But it is good to see you both; winter has scattered the pack far and wide. I can only hope we can find them again and soon. The new place you two have picked out is wonderful by the way."

[Chenoa]

She smiled at the other fae. "Thank you Lyxa. I'm glad you approve. I also hope can gather the pack again." She looked over at Essedar. "That's what I wanted to talk to you about. I was wandering around by the waterfall and I found my sister Janai's scent there. She joined Leon's pack before he disappeared at the start of winter. I haven't caught her scent since we joined the packlands together. Maybe she'll want to join our pack. I hope so. I've missed her." She tried not to think of another sibling she missed. Her heart was still heavy from Dyami's leaving. She hadn't seen him or caught his scent since the middle of winter. She hoped he was all right.
