It was really quiet in the room, the only noise was the sound of parchment between Kayla’s fingers. She was reading a book about winged horses, one of the magical creatures she knows everything about but wanted to read those books over and over. Her mouth was a dry, Kayla hoped someone would ask her to get a butterbeer. Because of her feet were cold, Kayla was rubbing her feet over the warm and soft sheets of her cozy bed full of pillows. Only her chocolate brown hair was visible, the rest of her head was hiding behind her book. Sometimes she mumbled the things she read, Kayla was so involved with her book she forgot about the world, even the fact she was sitting in her own room.
One moment someone came in, Kayla was wondering who but already expecting Melanie. Without looking she mumbled: ”Hi Mel.” It was only a guess but she guessed totally right. Kayla heard a lot of noise but kept reading in her book about those winged horses.
Melanie had been fairly moody lately. She still wasn't over her breakup from Julian Ferrars, and while she'd been planning to go home for the holidays to get away from everything and heal, this blizzard had trapped her in the school and she was forced to see him almost every day. She couldn't help but feel sad every time, even though she understood why the breakup happened. After all, she couldn't force someone to love her, and the fact was that she loved him, and she wanted him to be happy. Still, it wrenched her heart to know that for whatever reason she wasn't good enough, that he was falling out of love with her, that there was someone else.
Bah, love was stupid. How dare it snake its way into her heart and sink its venom into her veins, just to crawl right back out and leave her body crying out for it to come back. She was was suffering love withdrawal, the chills, the shakes, the hallucinations. She was jonesing for a fix, but her dealer had dropped her. What was she to do but suffer through it, the cold sweats, the headaches, the wandering about in a fog? Her body ached to be back in Julian's arms but the simple fact was that pining after him was that pining after someone who didn't want you was a waste of time, and Melanie simply had no time to be wasted.
As she wandered up the stairs and into her dorm. Kayla was the only one in there, reading a book, but Melanie was grateful. She needed someone to vent to and Kayla had always been good for an ear. As her roommate greeted her, the heartbroken eagle murmured out a faint greeting, and collapsed on her bed. Perhaps it was because she still wasn't used to lying down in a bed by herself, but the sheets felt harsh and restrictive, the pillows, a clutter. She fidgeted about loudly before settling into what felt foreign still and looked to Kayla. "So what's up?" she asked.
While the brunette was reading about those beautiful winged horses she was wondering what Melanie had to say. Kayla started to feel a little tinkle in her nose, she had a cold for a few days. She hoped she would be fast enough to grab a tissue before sneezing but no, Kayla started sneezing right before she could grab it. She had been sneezing like this for years, always 6 times. Her parents always laughing when she started sneezing and count till 6. Kayla hoped Melanie wouldn’t do it, she don’t like it when people laugh with her sneezing. “I’m good I think, my cold is still there. You have to read this book, really awesome facts about those beautiful creatures!” she answered really fast while sneezing.
Kayla knew that Mel was interested about those creatures and said it again and again when she’s reading a book what totally amazes her. She let her fall on her bed, right in the middle of the pillows. She liked those pillows, it makes her feel like she is floating away. Kayla opened her book again and asked Mel: “How are you?”
