After installing, I am getting a runtime error 50003. This is happening on two XP Pro machines. I have installed the program on my XP Home machine and it works great. I have installed, uninstalled, rebooted and still get the same error. Can you help me install the program?

This runtime error is obviously due to the required runtime controls not registering correctly. Since you're saying that the problem only occurs on Windows XP Pro, I'd have to guess you don't have the required priviledges to register those components. Please try Start > Run and entering "regsvr32 comctl32.ocx" without the quotes, before pressing OK. Reply and tell me if you get any error messages. If you get that it was correctly registered, please download the Required Runtime Components package from the following link:

http://prdownloads.sourceforge.net/wav2mp3....2.exe?download

I hope I was of help. Please take a moment and drop us a note on why/how you use Wav2MP3 Wizard and what you like or don't like so far on the General subforum or the Download.com review page here.

Followed your suggestion, with the first step, came back that it was registering, rand the program provided with the link, still got the 50003 error.

I am an adminisitrator, so I assume I have privledges. I am running SP2.

I love the program, I am using Audacity to record audio from the internet and then convert to wav with audacity and then to mp3 with wav to mp3. It is simple and works great. Seems faster than other methods I have tried as well.

I really, really have no idea what could be going wrong. Runtime errors could mean lots of things and I haven't experienced anything like that nor am I able to reproduce it. I'm glad you're enjoying the program, at least where it works.

Hi I am getting the same error.
I have Windows XP home with SP2 installed.

Tried the registry command and downloaded the required extras.

Any help would be appreciated.

I just tried on my work notebook computer, Windows XP Pro SP2 and all works OK.

very strange.

It actually IS strange. It seems that this problem happens only on Windows XP Home, and I can only wonder why could that be. Let me do some research, and see if I can come up with a workaround.

I've searched around a bit and here's what I can come up with. I can't really reproduce the problem so I don't know if this way will fix it either.

1. Download http://wav2mp3lame.sourceforge.net/Fix50003.zip
_____
PLEASE READ BOTTOM NOTE BEFORE CONTINUING!
_____
2. Open the archive and run clear.bat. You should get one or several Windows File Protection windows asking you to restore your system files to the original versions. Press Cancel and then Yes. We don't want Windows restoring the backed up versions as they're probably just as incompatible.
3. Now run vbrun60sp6.exe and follow the instructions to install the VB6 Runtime Components by Microsoft.
4. Now run Wav2MP3_References_3.2.exe and follow the instructions to install the special runtime files needed by Wav2MP3 Wizard.
5. You will most probably get another Windows File Protection window, Cancel and Yes again.
6. Try running Wav2MP3 Wizard, hopefully you'll be running smooth.

NOTE: This method will only work if Windows is installed on C:. If Windows is installed on another drive you'll need to do the replace step 2 of the above instructions with the following steps:

2a. Open the archive and extract clear.bat to a folder of your choice.
2b. Open the folder in Windows Explorer, right-click on clear.bat and click on Edit.
2c. Edit the first line from [cd c:\windows\system32], replacing c:\ with the letter of the hard drive Windows is installed on.
2d. File > Save. Exit Notepad.
2e. Run clear.bat.

Dear Leftos,

I'm a big fan of Wav2MP3 and I used to use it on several pc's.
Unfortunately I tried to install it on my two desktops and got the same error message... sad.gif
Bot my PC's are running Windows XP PRO Dutch version witch SP2
I tried the solution you mentioned but this didn't work on both pc's.
Please update me if you have more info or a solution...

Regards,

Godert (Netherlands)

Unfortunately since I stopped developing the project about a year ago, I didn't look for a solution anymore.

I'm glad you tried Wav2MP3 Wizard ant that you're such a big fan, however for the desktops that it doesn't work on, shall I recommend CDex or -even better- MediaCoder? They're both open-source, completely free programs.
