Off hand I'd say it's some kind of new chi block move (no reason that there's a way to make a paralyzing blow permanent). Amon didn't hit the two points that the giant lion turtle showed Aang. That, and Amon's trick lacked the.... absolution of Aang's maneuver against Ozai.

I actually do have the HUB channel! I don't have the regular channel but by some mistake I somehow got the HD one (thought it would be a trial but I still have it after 4 months!) I only watch My Little Pony and Are You Smarter Than a Fifth Grader on it though. And I know exactly what you mean since I cringed when I first heard "Twilight" too. I love a smart, organized book nerd purple pony sooooo much better than that wimpy lust story. Next episode of Korra looks interesting. Running into a mess of things already, isn't she? -------------------- ![]() |

Well, she's either going to want to go against it, and will, or will be destined to go against it, and will. Either way, she's gonna be going against it.
Too bad Ty Lee is likely dead. She could've given some fighting tips to Korra, particularly in how to evade the attacks. -------------------- |

Well, we do know that Ty Lee taught chi-blocking to the Kyoshi Warriors while being imprisoned with them during the war. And the Kyoshi Warriors continued to exist for hundreds of years even after Kyoshi's death. So maybe they still exist and they still learn chi-blocking from their predecessors. It would be kinda cool to see how the Kyoshi Warriors meet Korra and teach her to to avoid the Equalists' chi-blocking.
By the way, I heard that Zuko's still alive...at age 87. Not sure of its confirmation yet, but I heard that his daughter is the current Firelady of the Fire Nation as he have abdicated. -------------------- ![]() W.I.T.C.H. I would have to say that I am enjoying this show so far. All of the characters I already enjoy seeing and it's only the third episode. But I'm not sure about Amon I'm not sure that I believe the backstory that he told about why he formed the equalists.

I've been hearing all sorts of things going round about this. Like how Mako is Zuko's son and Amon is Mako and Bolin's older brother and how Amon is really a bender in disguise and is faking the story he told at the rally. Some of the fans run really wild with their theory of what happens next. Maybe some of it will be true?
Have to say, I like the darker tone of Korra. I hope they keep it up in future episodes. With Aang, it was like they had to build up to the 'serious' fight at the end, but Korra is like that from the start. -------------------- ![]() |

Amon being a bender in disguise is still plausible. As for a direct blood relation to Zuko, I am doubting it. The more direct blood characters they keep introducing the worse things can turn out. Having Toph's daughter and Aang's son in this are enough for me.
Amon's back story can very well be a farce (and was something I thought as soon as he started talking). By hiding behind a mask it makes it easy to have doubles (just be a man with a similar build), and you'll never be sure you really assassinated him as another could just show up (his mask is a symbol, like Batman's cowl in the Christian Bale/Batman movies). This also means he can walk about Republic City without drawing any attention without that mask, especially if he really isn't scarred. I had also thought that the whole "sealing the bending" bit could've been faked, but that'd also mean that all four benders there would've had to be in the act. Either Bolin and the others are great actors and liars, or there is something to what Amon's done to the first three. And I can't see Bolin acting like he's no longer a bender for the rest of his life Some things I do like about this series is how the fighting styles have changed and technology evolved with the benders over the last 70-some years. Like how the fire benders who could channel lightning get to work for the city generating electricity. It also seems that the benders of Republic City have gotten sloppy in their martial arts styles. -------------------- |

It's not that they're getting "sloppy", but they are adapting their traditional into something new. The Pro-bending is inspired by both our version of pro-wrestling and mixed martial arts, a modern concept which had been applied to our society a little before the 1920s, which is the estimate timeline of Korra's current life.
Of course ans we've seen, modern style of fighting isn't welcomed by all, including Tenzin. I wonder if we'll get to see his siblings, Kya and Bumi. -------------------- ![]() W.I.T.C.H. Sorry, wasn't referring to the pro-bending people getting sloppy, but the others like the Triple-Threat-Triad.

All nations have been unified right? Then there can't be a fire lady (I haven't read the second part of the Promise yet, please don't spoil me). I really like the tone of the Legend of Korra. It's very different from the Legend of Aang, which makes it a good stand alone show. If they would make it like tlo Aang, comparisons would have been made unavoidable and then the second show always comes out worse. About Amon, I think it's a character or descendant of a character we already know. When the mask will be removed, I expect a big schocker-effect. And I think the Equivalists do have a point. The world is ruled by benders and the wars are caused by benders. That makes them very believable antagonists. It's not like the Fire nation who just fight because they want more power. Maybe we should make an The Legend of Korra topic? This post has been edited by Tekira on 23 April 2012 11:42 -------------------- |

Only movie I've seen recently is The Hunger Games (amazing movie). The life of a college student doesn't give you much free time to do anything but school work...

True. I wanted to watch The Hunger Games and the re-released Titanic for the 100th anniversary of the actual sinking in theatres but I'm just too busy with university and all the research papers I still have to do.

Saw a new teaser for Avengers last night, a clip from the pissing contest they seem to go through. In it, Thor zapped Iron Man with lightning via Mjölnir, and Iron Man is pulling all defensive. Once the sparks settle, Jarvis comes up saying "Power levels now at 400%.", and Tony is like "Interesting." The rest of the teaser was more fighting between the two.
Did also see Captain America as well. Gotta say I think it was alright. -------------------- |

I didn't like Captain America as much as Thor or Iron Man. I felt like the story-telling didn't run smoothly, especially from the beginning. I didn't know how he understood that he was going to be changed into a superbeing, and such. I may have just missed a lot somehow, but some of it didn't make sense

I was prepared for the Avengers to be an average flick, with it's good moments, and it's shortcomings, but average.
Instead, I walked out in complete awe. It's every bit as awesome as the hype would have you believe, I can assure you of that. -------------------- |

It's because Joss Whedon wrote and directed it! Nough said. That man is a pure genius.
