Title: How to make a WITCH character
Gartabro - May 26, 2011 08:45 AM (GMT)
I was searching for fanart in Deviantart when I found this:
Female characterMale characterThey're based on arcs 1-5, but they're not bad! :)

Lol, this is more like 'how not to make a witch character'. Love the picture of Will and the super powered guardian. :P
But, in defence of the Mary/Gary Sue, it is a good place for new writers to start, so long as they do not reach general viewing  And most Mary/Gary Sue writers do grow out of it later when they become more skilled at making characters and even their own worlds. Using other people's ideas and writing about them is like a stepping stone.
It is laughable though when a character appears who is usually 'goth' and crushes on Phobos and has super speshul powers. But, everyone has to start somewhere. :)

I think Gali already posted a link to this somewhere in the fanart section.

Yes, I did. But to be honest, I don't remember when and where. But I think I did repost a link about the Male Guardian on my WITCH #104 issue critic a few months ago.
I'm sorry, but I don't have a lot of good advice when it comes to designing a character for your WITCH fanfiction or fancomics. Apparently when I'm designing the character, I just go with the flow. If there is a part that I'm not satisfy with, then I just erased said part and alter it with a pencil. :P

If I could draw my own witches, I would probably never stop with it.
But I can't really draw. When I try I always end up drawing a house.

I read the Mary Sue one and I found it really helpful :P It made me think XD And I realize all my old characters were Mary Sues XD
Since I'm working on a W.I.T.C.H. inspired story, I think I needed to read that.
Though they've missed out on one thing; they say that the right personality is required to have a specific element. What about zodiacs? :P
Irma is a Pisces, which is a water sign.
Taranee is an Aries, which is a fire sign.
Cornelia is a Taurus, which is an earth sign.
Hay Lin is a Gemini, which is an air sign.
Will is a Capricorn, which is an earth sign.
Now I guess everyone can have the power of quintessence (like Cassidy got it from Nerissa, then Yan Lin I suppose). And like in the "what if" Caleb and Cornelia special, Will got the powers of earth - which is in fact "her" element. Though I don't know why Orube could have had earth, well I guess, it wasn't cause she wasn't an earth sign.
I don't mean to complain, just point it out! :P
Though I do find people of the same zodiac being a lot like each other, so maybe that's what they meant. :P

Hey Cordelia,
You're new here, but you should know that double posting isn't allowed here. You can use the edit button if you want to add something to your old post ;)
About what you said, it's a common belief that your zodiac determines what your personality is. Take Hay Lin, she has an air zodiac, and she has a creative and open-minded personality. Perfect match. For the writers, it was easy to do this of course. Make up a personality that matches the element air (yes, there are personality theories that say that there are 4 different personality types, 1 for each element, as a psychologist I can't really support that theory, but for now, let's take that theory), and make up a birthday that matches with the right zodiac. But in reality a personality rarely matches your zodiac, unless you look at traits that everybody had (like, 'you can get angry of people are unfair to you'). I can go on about personality types for ages, so I'll stop now.
Let's just say that in real life zodiac-personality matches are bullocks, but in the WITCH-universe they make perfect sense. I don't really know why Will got the Earth element in the special, she has an earth zodiac, but her personality doesn't really match, although she can be really stubborn, but I can't say she's down to earth. So, even in the WITCH-universe the zodiac theory doesn't make perfectly sense  . But that special is kinda non-canon, so I wouldn't worry about that too much it I were you ;)
