I know its hard to pin down, when there as many prominent examples going about these days, but I know with sculpture there was once a piece that used to always grab my attention as a kid. Out in the village of Lumsden where my grandparents live, there is a secluded little sculpture walk leading down to the primary, with ever shifting examples being exibited from the sculpture workshop on the other side of the village. It's all very quaint and something I've always admired - as when I was in primary 3 I had a breif stint at that tiny school for some reason which escapes me now, but was living with the grandparents for a month or two. This particular one was a big warped cuboid slithering about in the branches of a tree (thus causing it to get climbed on quite a bit) and it was always referred to as 'the snake'. Its always remained one of the best pieces of sculpture I've ever laid eyes on (it was just simple red sheet metal entangling itself in the very trunk). I don't know why but I always got some comfort from seeing it on my way home from school and clambering onto it to sit and converse with makeshift friends. Alas as I mentioned the sculptures got substituted when they had outlived their ability to be a spectacle in the eyes of the adult world and they eventually got shifted - though it was to be expected so there would be no reason to be gutted about it. I'm sure in the aged archives of my grandparent's photos I'll find a few crisp snaps of it to share - but that'll have to be saved for some other time of reflection.
