Controls
Press F1 in game to see a full list.

I can't find the stargate!
Look visually* around blue giants, near the original stargate and unfortunately all over in nebulae. Always go to each planet/clump of asteroids in the system and check visually. Failing that, fly away from the stargate you came through and wait for an enemy to come get you, then fly in the direction they came from.

*As in, not on the system map.

System names
All but a few system names are randomly generated, so posting something along the lines of "help! im stuck in the ross 248 system..." isn't very helpful.
It's easier to refer to what type of enemy you're seeing, or how far away from St Katherine's Star (St Ks) you are, as this is often regared as the middle point of the
game.

The pre-determined names are:
Eridani
Rigel Aurelius (battle arena)
Charon
St. Katharine's Star**
Sanctuary*
Jiang's Star*
Eta Ceti*
Point Juno
Ares
Heretic
Elysium

*Although these 3 are always in the game, not many players refer to them.

**Oft abbreviated to St. K's.

I can't find xxxxx
Sorry, all but a few systems are randomly generated, and even in those ones the stations differ from game to game. Items are also randomly generated (with the exception of a few items, such as fuel), but some stations are more likely to have a certain item than another. Try checking every object on your map, or use a system map rom. If what you want isn't in the system, move on.

Communications
Q. It says no carrier signal when I try to activate communications! Do I need a certain item?
A. No, but you do need either autons or wingmen, then you can order them around with these controls.

Black Markets
You need something for them to recognise you by. There are two places you can find these:
1. You can find long transport ships escorted by up to 4 Zulus. These are smugglers, and carry illegals and sometimes id chips. WARNING: if you attack these, the Zulu guards will cease to be friendly to you, but friendly stations will not shoot at them.
2. *SPOILER*Go to a hotel with illegal goods in your hold, and click on the restaurant option and then sell the goods to the men sitting there. You only meet them once, so make the most of it.

You need a Black Market ID to get into the Tempus Labs, too.

Black Market Missions
To be able to undertake the missions at Black Markets, you must first gain their favour. There's only one thing the Black Market wants - money. Buy a load of stuff from them and they may start to trust you.

Military
To get a military ID chip, you need to do the following:
1. Either do Korolov or Arena mission. You don't need to do all of them, but do as many as you can.
2. Use a visual display enhancement ROM. Its the one that makes dots appear around the edge of your screen.
3. Do the mission at the fortress (you must have completed steps 1 & 2 first). The fortress is usually found soon after St Ks, and you will know you have one in the system because there are random nav beacons (unlabeled dots on the map)

The Commonwealth Navy is different from the Militia. Militia missions can be done at the fortresses, and need to be done before the navy missions. The Navy misisons can be done at CSC (Commonwealth Star Carriers) found later in the game.

You can also just find these occasionally. They show up as "unknown ID chip" but it's either a Military or a Black Market. Try going to one or the other to see.

If you're having trouble finding a visual display enhancement rom, just buy all the ROMs you see on sale and use them. Starton Eridani generally has lots of random roms

Outlawed
Question: I blew up a station by accident/design/shooting the crap out of it. Now when I dock at places they arrest me. Is there any way to clear my name?
Answer: No. Get ready for a life with the black markets and the ringers

This also applies to slave trading, and anything else you can think of to give you an illegal status.

I'm being Bounty Hunted!
You made the Black Market mad. Whether you destroyed an installation or tried to rip them off, they want you dead. Now there's a price on your head. To clear it, dock with a Black Market station and pay the price, but beware, because if you can't afford it, you will have to pay with something else.

Radiation
There are several ways to become irradiated in the game, the easiest way by being hit by a radioactive weapon when your shields are down (the "hardened" armours will protect you here, and in all other cases), or docking with a radioactive ship.

If this happens you have 3 choices:
1. Find a commonwealth station that charges for the decon process.
2. Use a barrel of decon gel.
3. Attempt to complete the game in the remaining time or kiss your sorry ass goodbye.

Remember - if you don't mind dying and reloading, don't exit the system. When you do, it saves the game automatically. Many people have lost saves like this. If you *know* there was a station in the last system, go for it. If not, maybe your best option is suicide

If you manage to irradiate an enemy, it has the same amount of time you do before the end.

Changing Ships
Q. Can I change ships during the game?
A. Not at present. You are limited to the 3 starting ships and anything you or someone else cares to mod.

If you haven't worked out how to change starting ships yet, press left and right on the main menu screen.

Mining
Q. Can I mine asteroids with the mining laser?
Yup. If you shoot an asteroid that has ores with the laser, some will float off and you can dock with them and retrieve them. If an asteroid doesn't produce any ores after one or two shots, it probably doesn't have any, so move one. Plasma torches are also mining weapons.

Repairing Weapons
*SPOILER*
You can use a longzhu sphere on any damaged energy weapon to repair it.

Cargo Holds
There are 2 cargo hold expansions in the game - the normal "just more room, please" and the smuggler's "I don't know how that got there, officer".

The normal expansion can be found for sale at Commonwealth stations and installed normally, but there is also a dock screen installation option at mining colonies.

The smuggler's hold can only be acquired at illegal institutions, either by buying/installing or by pressing the upgrade cargo hold option on the dock services screen at either a black market station or a shipyard. It allows you to take illegal goods into a Commonwealth Station, and military items without military ID at the expense of some cargo space.

*SPOILER*
You can take illegal goods into the Victorian Nightclub and sell them for a profit if you have a smuggler's hold.

Reactors
Your ship is powered by one of these. Naturally, you want the biggest one going. Each reactor provides a certain amount of power for your ship which is then used up by each device currently turned on.

Reactor upgrades currently come in 5 flavours - the 25, 100, 250, 500 and 1000 MW variants. Each can hold more fuel than the last, but they also have slightly varying efficiencies.

The 25 and 100 MW can be bought and installed at commonwealth stations or shipyards. Currently 250MW reactors can only be bought and installed at Black Market or Ringer shipyards, whilst the 500 and 1000 MW are only available at Ringer Shipyards. Every reactor can be found as loot, or sometimes in commonwealth stations for sale

Different reactors take different fuel. heres the current list:

25MW: he3 fuel rods
100MW: he3 fuel rods, helium assemblies, heliotrope fuel
250MW: helium assemblies, heliotrope fuel, longzhu spheres, pteracnium rods
500MW: heliotrope fuel, longzhu spheres, pteracnium rods
1000MW (1GW): heliotrope fuel, longzhu spheres, pteracnium rods

It takes a device slot to upgrade the first time, and after that each upgrade replaces the last. If you use enough devices to exceed to power output of your reactor, at least one of them will be disabled.

How do I get mods to work?
Make a folder called EXTENSIONS in the transcendence folder and put created mods in there for simple mods. For more mod help, check out the mods forum.

I got stuck in the Arena wall
Yes, this happens. We know. Try quickly thrusting, or jettisoning something then docking with it.

If you have a weapon with recoil, such as a Howitzer, then that may be able to unwedge your ship, as well, depending on the angle you got stuck at.

My shields don't work!
Check what armour you're using. Is it meteorsteel or worldship? These interfere with shields, so you cant use one with it. These armour types are heavily resistant to lots of things however, so there is a reason to use them.

Alternatively check what shield type it is. If its a superconducting shield generator, you need to use superconducting coils to recharge it.

Another possibility is that you overpowered your reactor, possibly by flying, shooting and getting shot at the same time. Weapons and shields drain the most when they are active. Try pressing b and seeing if your shield is turned off.

Finally are you fighting Earth slavers (the ones that look like big balloons with an evil face) or a Sung Citadel? These have an attack that lowers your shields. If so, try not to die and wait for them to recharge. Hide out o top of a planet if you need to.

Heretic System, aka the system with only 1 ship, the empty system, the system with the locked stargate
*SPOILER*
The Iocyrm command ship in this system is the games last boss (at present). Currently it can only really be killed with the Qianlong Archcannon. An ICX would help with the blue disentegrator shots it fires. Try to keep behind it if you can to avoid it's front guns.

After you have beaten it, you need to collect the artefact from its wreck and use that in the stargate (dock and use). Congratulations! You've won.

"The only place you can find a QAC is a Sung Citadel. Each one has a 25% chance of having a QAC. If you can find a Iocyrm Repeller, it might work if you have the guts to take on the Iocyrm at close range." - Burzmali

Elysium
*SPOILER*You can get here by using gems of despair or the jumpdrive on top of a stargate. It is a kind of hub between many of the star systems. From here you can quickly go to nearly anywhere in the game.

One tip: use a system map or go past every stargate visually (they form a circle around the sun), then look on your map for the eridani and the heretic stargates. These will be next to each, since they are the first and last systems in the game. the gates then go in order around the sun, so you can guess where you want to go

Spoiler code
If you wish to post a spoiler, you can use the following:
write *SPOILER* then

CODE
[color=#061756]xxxxx[/color]

where xxxxx is your hidden message

Damage Types
In the xml, damage types are listed horizontally, like so:

CODE
damageAdj= " 33,100, 75,100, 100,100,100,100, 125,125,200,200, 300,300,500,500"

Each number refers to a different damage type. The damage the shield/armour takes from a particular type is the multiplied by the corresponding number (in percentage form, so 33 is 33% or 0.33). The order of damage types is:

laser, kinetic, particle, blast, ion, thermo, positron, plasma, antimatter, nano, graviton, singularity, dark acid, dark steel, dark lightning, dark fire

WMD Damage

Heres a quote from George:

Here are the (current) rules:

1. When hitting a large station, only WMD counts. WMD is some percentage of normal weapon damage, using this table:

WMD0 = 0%
WMD1 = 4%
WMD2 = 10%
WMD3 = 20%
WMD4 = 34%
WMD5 = 52%
WMD6 = 74%
WMD7 = 100%

For example, if 10 points of WMD3 damage hit a station, then the station only takes 20% of the damage or 2 points. Regardless of the above, any hit on a station causes at least 1 point of damage, so even weapons with no WMD do some damage (this may or may not change in the future).

Note that only stations with multiHull="true" count as "large stations"

2. Ships generally take full damage (regardless of WMD) but for ships that have "non critical" armor segments, WMD comes into play. The chance that a hit to a non critical segment will destroy the ship increases for WMD weapons (I might change this in the future to be more like large stations).

3. When hitting wrecks, etc. only WMD counts.

Make a folder called "Extensions" without the quoation marks, in the transcendence folder and put created mods in there for simple mods. For more mod help, check out the mods forum.

Yes, this happens. We know. Try thrusting for a moment, and hope you drift free, and vary the directions you thrust in, or also try jettisoning something then docking with it.

My shields dont work!

Military Missions
Q. I was flying a mission for the military, the one where they take all your equipment and cargo away. I did the mission and when I got back the Commonwealth Star Carrier had been destroyed and all my stuff was gone! Can I get it back?
A. At present, no. This has been reported, though, and will hopefully be fixed in the next version.

Shouldn't this be put up at the library link? It could just be added to the current one, and It solves the problem of not being editable. It's a bit odd to read the same FAQ five times every time someone wants to capitalize something.

Sure, but part of the point of this is to answer common questions that people have. The forum is linked from the Transcendence website, the Library Link isn't. George, would you consider changing that?

Also, while we're at it, could the Anacreon website link to the new Anacreon forum on here?

ha, you missed my awful spelling of remember in the "radiation" section.

not to be picky, but wont having the same thing written twice just confuse people who are looking for extra stuff? it would have been simpler if you pmd or emailed me with the correction and i would have given you credit. if you want, ill copy & paste your version, credit you and you can delete/edit your post, but i think confusing people for the sake of grammar isnt worth it.

ill post whats not already there onto the libarary link in a mo.

EDIT: done, but left off the spoilers, since theres already a section for it

To clarify, Steel slavers are shaped like flying saucers, but they don't use shields down. They use Peaceful Constraint. Earth slavers (the big oval ones) use shields down.

3. Do the mission at the fortress

Could you be a little bit more specific? Thanks to the 2nd post in this thread (ya know, the one that was posted two days before your last edit) I know I'm looking for a commonwelth fortress... but seriously. Before/after saint katherine's? In saint katherine's? Somewhere so far outside of the map view angle even if I donate my ship to domina I still won't have any idea where it is?

You have a really funky map, if you're getting many stations like that. :)

Systems are randomly created, so no one can tell you precisely where the Fortress is. And furthermore, because stations are randomly generated, you might not even have one.

Fortresses are station like any other, not hidden or something,
They first show up soon after StK, and I don't think you can easily miss them.

did you read the random generation bit? If you fly to each bit of rock in each system you'll probably find one. then again maybe you wont. That part of the FAQ was designed for people who couldnt work out why they arent being offered a mission. if you havent come across it yet, you dont need to know.

i didnt make this as a walkthrough, just a bit of a helping hand when you dont know something, like "can i get rid of illegal status?"

'Jack', first off, read the rules. Y'know, the big bold link at the top of every page? Profanity and obscenities are not allowed on this forum, which your name is. Find a new name.

Secondly, I find your tone offensive. You snap at people offering aid to you. Yes, it's random. Not having a fortress in your game is very rare, rare enough that a 'FAQ' shouldn't cover that scenario, as it doesn't fall under the 'Frequent' requirement.

I'm sorry if I seem a bit terse, but I value this forum's 'clean'-ness, and you seem to be going out of your way to be offensive and to provoke people. Who would choose the name you chose for what they are to be called? I see it as either a person looking for an excuse to blow his top at people, or intended as warning that you are, quite literaly, your name. Either way...Eh.

So, as I said, either tone it down and find a new name, otherwise, please leave.

Begin with a function of arbitrary complexity. Feed it values,
"sense data". Then, take your result, square it, and feed it back
into your original function, adding a new set of sense data.
Continue to feed your results back into the original function ad
infinitum. What do you have? The fundamental principle of human
consciousness.

Words have different meanings in different parts of the world, Sero. 'Jackass' is not a profanity in Britain, for example, at least to my knpwledge, while in America I understand things are different. So don't be too hard on him; he may be acting out of ignorance.

excuse me but im british too, and i find the term jackass insulting. you cant even wriggle out of it by using a dictionary. firefox gives me the following:

QUOTE
1.  A male ass or donkey.
2. A foolish or stupid person; a blockhead: "You've acted like an irrational jackass and it's time you stopped" Margaret Truman.

so when i and others take the time to answer your questions, complaining about the advice is not the way to go. if you want to make a point then register.

as is when if i choose to help people by making a FAQ, complaining that it doesnt cover every eventaulity isnt being very grateful. you want to make your own guide to everything, go for it.

and as far as being "toopid", its only questions that come up every few days (eg FAQs) that annoy people when the answers are in about three different places. inteligent questioning is greated warmly, otherwise i wouldnt have joined.

and one final point - if you have a black market id, you can install military grade items at the shipyards. if you reply with "stoopid idyut, u nead a militery id too by da boum sticks LOL NEWB XD" then ill just take it that you havent explored the game thouroughly, or have been exceedingly unlucky with items
