I've noticed that everyone (including myself) have been making tons of Transcendence mods and been neglecting making new Anacreon scenarios. I know it's more difficult to make an Anacreon scenario, but come on folks!

Create new scenarios, and post them here!!

I''m working on one now, and have been off and on for a while. Don't except anything soon, but it's a two player- each side starts with large amounts of SRMs, outposts, command bases and defended worlds along a 'front line', but they only have warp tech level to begin with.

The greatest restriction in creating maps for the Windows version, is that you can't control the size of trillium reserves on planets that are generated randomly.

Yea, george should have just said nay to the trillium reserves... if there's a trilliu reserve, why not a metal reserve?

I've put together a really solid, innovative Anacreon scenario called The Sword's Edge that includes over 50 special worlds, over 100 flavor text entries, but at the same time is approachable and well-balanced.

I hope you can help me by distributing the scenario on websites, playing it with friends and (George) possibly including it in future releases of Anacreon.

Most of all, I hope you enjoy it!

The Sword'd Edge Ver 1.0
SCENARIO DESCRIPTION

The "Sword's Edge" is an evolution of my earlier scenario "Imperium Galactica 3," which in turn was a remake of the original "Imperium Galactica" scenario by Brent Fairbanks. I eventually realized that it had no elements of the original scenario still intact and decided to change the name.

The Sword's Edge scenario features-

- 7 dense pockets of worlds in the same area as each player capital. Artificial Worlds are in the mix.
- A network of 16 independent warp links to facilitate trade, exploration, or warfare. There is one near each capital and nine randomly placed. Players need to find the location of other warp links for these to be useful, of course. Players can decide to destroy or defend links in their own neighborhood or abroad.

- Over 50 randomly-placed "goody" worlds including:
- 6 independent outposts with varying properties
- a world with massive trillum reserves
- an infested, derelict command base
- an active ambrosia farm
- an orbital transport base around a gas giant
- an Elite Infantry academy
- an abandoned disruptor
- an ancient, isolated Fortress trapped behind SRMs
- a besieged world of super-intelligent, ethereal creatures
- A space junkyard
- A world facing withdrawal from ambrosia
- and many other worlds with extra ships in orbit, extra raw materials planet-side, valuable information and/or enhanced production.

- A good bit of nebula including some dark and dense patches and a large map to explore.

- Over 100 flavor text entries to add depth and atmosphere to the scenario.

- An AI pirate empire, Kobalt, with power spread between 5 worlds randomly distributed throughout the map.

All worlds are randomized for balance except for player capitals which will spawn toward the middle of a dense cluster of worlds to allow an initial grounds to expand their empires.

Spacing between player capitals is balanced and their strategic starting locations are relatively equal except for Empire 7, which is placed in the arguably awkward location at the center of the map. To compensate, a defenseless outpost is available 1 space away from Empire 7's capital and a large dark nebula surrounds the area to obscure it from other players.

Note also that a handful of worlds in the scenario are designated "Terraforming" or "Outpost," These designations are old and used by the programmer at different point's in Anacreon's evolution. In all cases, I used the world designation as flavor and to prevent the world from producing. These worlds will have to be re-designated after you take them for them to be of real value to your empire.

Finally, I've been unable to completely overcome a bug in which there is no room for a random world. 1 in 20 or so times the map is generated it will fail and you'll have to set up the game again.

Have fun and please point out any bugs or possible enhancements to the scenario you can think of.

Haven't checked my own topic in a while! I've downloaded Starmantle42's new scenario, and will check it out this weekend.
If it's good, I will send it to G'K'Treien Corp's battle simulation experts, and there is a chance it will become required training for our Dreammasters. Auf wiedersen.

I've seen the scenario file for swords edge and it seems pretty good. Its pretty detailed and there's a lot of "extra" stuff like planet histories and so on. The map is also very varied with all types of nebulae and a few "sidequests". I haven't really played the map enough to speak of its playability though....

Transcendence is like the Ring. It is the powerful work of one man. Once it is on your hard-drive, you cannot let go of it. At most, you play with the idea of deleting it from your computer and moving on - and that only at an early stage. As time progresses, it begins to grow on your mind and slowly devours you by not letting you study or work. You hate it and you love it, but you cannot get rid of it. You have no will left in the matter. It may crash treacherously but you, its keeper, never destroys it.

Umm... *tap**tap* is this thing on? smile.gif

So... hello everybody! I just discovered Anacreon (played it two days ago for the first time) and one thing I didn't like was the fact that everything is quite uneven.
Therefore I present you... *drums*

The Dueling Grounds alpha version!

This map was created with the purpose of being perfectly even so that the best man wins(and not the one with the best planets around). As a random fact, there is only one random thing on the map(a planet) and that is quite limited. As said, I'm still a beginner, so many of the numbers in this scenario might need tweaking.

But I'm still proud of it tongue.gif.

Please check it out and remember that criticism is welcome.

Note that this is, as said, alpha stage, so there might be some things which aren't there, but which you might have expected.

And I also have a question: What are the different kinds of nebulae?

Okay, here's my scenario. It's very rudimentary. It starts you off in the pre-tech age. It's not meant to be played as a multiplayer map...yet. I'll modify it to make it a little more challenging and a little more faster. Also, I noticed that when you play it as a single player map, you usually end up getting to the gate level without a single encounter with another civilization. But as I said its it's still very rudimentary. I'll update it later after I polish up my Transcendence mod.

Dosgamer3 to Starmantle42:

I have played your scenario, "The Sword's Edge". I have only one thing to say:

[FONT=Impact][SIZE=7]Great job![FONT=Arial][SIZE=1]

I haven't played it all the way to winning. However, I find it to be just challenging enough, without being frustrating, and seems quite well balanced. And it has a terrific backstory, with excellent flavor text.

One caveat: Can't play it on the DOS version of Anacreon, which is the one I prefer for it's limits on enemy fleets and defenses.

I give "The Sword's Edge" FIVE Class A-0 stars!
I haven't been able to review the others yet. Please be patient.

Too kind, Dosgamer!

Really - you can't play Sword's Edge on the dos version? That's sad to hear. I wonder what I can change to allow you to do that. Hmmmm.

I'm excited to see others start to post scenarios on here and I'm going to playtest some soon.

Oh - if others have feedback on The Sword's Edge, let me know.

Thanks again.

- Dave

To make it playable on the DOS-version you have to change the 20 in the beginning of the file to a 13 and then make sure everything is under the limits in the DOS-version

You can't make the necessary changes to make Sword's edge run on DOS without modifying it entirely. It is simply too big. For eg, the DOS version limits the number of planets to 200 whereas there are 260 planets in Sword's edge.

I'm all for scenarios here, is there a place that explains making scenarios a little more better than the website? It's not all that clear in the documentation there...

Thanks

I've completed The Sword's Edge 3vs3 Scenario.

It's a variant of The Sword's Edge set up as a team of 3 players vs. another team of three players.

Goody worlds (67), side quests, and flavor text entries (139) are expanded even more than before.

We just completed the first game with Erik, Sero, David Norton, Kevin Swikert, and George Moromisato (the creator himself) a few days ago and it played pretty well.

The file is too big to upload here and I don't have a zip program handy, but email me (Dave_HN@yahoo.com) to request the file and I'll send it to you. I'll also get it online soon on a day in which I have a little more time.

Let me know what you think.
